Abstract

The research objective was to evaluate physicochemicai characteristic of frying oil which has ueenused by food sellers on the street located In Timpan Subdistrict, Oty of Pekanbaru. The result showed thatfood setters didn't buy frying oil blended with used oil from restaurant, but unpackaged frying ofl in the smallshop. The}' nrixed unpackaged frying oil with their used frying oil in order to increase the oil volume. Foodsellers used the oil for continuous frying until 2-3 times for animal products and 10-13 times for vegetableproducts. The physicochemicai characteristic of unpackaged frying oil were; water content of 0346%, wastecontent of1.008%, free fatty acid content of OMS'/t, peroiide number of 29.958 Meq/kg, density valne of0.904, andfaidinenunriter of 51.515. After continuous frying, the physicochemicai characteristics of fryingoil was decreased. Used frying oil for animal products has waste contentof 5.187%, free fatty acid content of42 *<, peroxide number of35.407 Meq/kg, density value of 0.910, and iodine number of40.776 after two.8/ itimes frying. Abstract

Kampar District is one ofriceproduction centres in Riau, so it is important to develop SRI (System of RiceIntensiOcation) method. To apply this method, we should know therightdbunce for thericeto be plantedbecause the farmers stfll use pbinting disUnce of25 x 25 on. The research used Randomized Block design, with four treatments and three repltcattoas. The treatment is the planting distance as ibUow: 25 1 25 cm (SI),30 X 30 cm (S2), 35135 cm (S3) and 40 x 40 cm (S4). The result of analysis was tested by Duncan's NewMultiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The research result showed that by SRI method, thericepiantgrow and produce very well with planting distance of 40 K 40 cm and the production of dry unpolished grainis 6^8 kg per plot.

Abstract

Sago plant (Hfetroxylon sp), is one of potential |riant producing of carbohydrate in Indonesia includingthe province of Riau. Sago starch (sago) is pith extract of sago stem. To obtain a high qualit}' of sago starchneed to do modified starches. Modified starches can be done with physical treatment, such as by heating at acertain water (Heat Moisture Tk^eatment/HMT). This study aims to determine the quality and the pastingprofile of sago with and without HMT from Inderagiri Hilir district and Bengkalis, Riau province. Thisresearch was used Completely Randomized Design (RAL), which consisting 4 treatments, each treatmentperformed three repetitions and obuined 12 units experiment. The treatments were: Bengkalis Non HMTtreatment (BN), non-treatment of HMT Inderi^iri HiHr (IN), Bengkalis with HMT treatment (BP), IndragiriHilir with HMT treatment (IF). Chemical analysis carried out on the moisture content, ash content, pHmeasurements, and starch pasting profile. The results showed that HMT affect the moisture content, ashcontent and crude fiber content of sago, and do not affect the pH as well as pasting profiles of sago.

Abstract

Picung seeds {Pangium edule Reinw; contain 70% kernel (ireight) and 40% Imsk (weight). Itsnucleus seeds contain 21-27% oib that can be extracted. More than iia 70% cmqionait is oil cake. The hugeamount of oil cake can be used as a solid fuel sucb as biopellets. Picung biopelleis are produced by usinghydraulic press hi the form of solid pieces with a specific size. Picung oil cakes need to be unifDnidy distributedas a soUd piece. Therefore, it needs to be bound and unified as a solid piece. Bhiding problems can be solvedby adding tapkxs. Optunum addition of tapioca is not more than 5%. However, adding tapioca wiU reduce theburning caloric properties of the bio-pellets. To increaM the caloric properties, diesel-oil can be added, because diesel oil has high caloric value equal to 7020 kcaVkg. Thefinalstep of this research was to optimizethe composition of tapioca and bio-diesel blends to produce the bio-pellets which satisfies the IndonesianNational Standard (SNI) with the highest caloric value. The cntral composit des^ w » used ftr the experiment.Thefirstfactor (X,) was quantity of solar (ml) and the second factor (X,) was quantity of tapioai (gran^. Firstfactor's range were between 1 to 53 % (l/w) diesel oil over picung cake or 2,<i9-17,33 ml diesel oH. Thesecond factor range was I to 5 % (w/w) diesel oil over picung cake. Optimization response used b heatingcaloric value of the bk>-pellcts (Y). Analysis with response surface method shows that bio-diesel addition haspositive influence to the heating caloric value of biopellets with desirability of0,840. The optimum value forheating calor biopellets is 6117,78 kril/kg.

Abstract

Oil palm {Elaeis guineentis Jacq) represents file most im|iorfant commodity in plantation sector. The problems often faced in oil palm agriculture effort is the availability of quality seed and avaOability ofpotential and fertile soil. Peat soil has some weaknesses such as its acidity (pH) and slow decompositionprocess. One method to overcome the acidity of peat soil is by using dregs and decomposition process can beimproved by applying Trichoderma sp. The objective of this research was to know the influence of interactionand primary factor of Trichoderma sp and dregs application for oil palm seed growth and physiologicalcondition at peat medium In pre nursery. It was conducted from September 2006 to Febrvari 2007. Theparameters of this research were the height of seed, leaf amount, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, and shoot-root ratio. The treatment of Trichoderma sp of 25 g/ kg of peat with dregs of 30 g/kg of peat had significanteRect to height of seed, and shoot wet weight. The primary factor tttdregs had significant effect to height ofseed and at dregs dose of 20 g/kg of peat, white leaf amount and shoot-root ratio at dregs dose of 30 g/kg of pea t.The primary factor of Trichoderma sp did not have any significant effect for all parameters.
