Abstract

In this paper, the comparison of wave characteristics between Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate system–based structures was analyzed using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The use of FDTD method wasconsidered due to its advantage in solving electromagnetics (EM) problems in wide spectrum of frequency and geometry shapes. The analysis was undertaken for three-dimensions (3D) Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate system–based structures with dimension of x = 600 mm, y = 300 mm, z = 1.200 mm, dan ???? = 600 mm, ???? =1 °, z = 1.200 mm, respectively. A transverse electric (TE) mode excitation of sine wave modulated Gaussian pulse with frequency of 1 GHz was applied for exciting both structures with the direction of propagation wave assumed in z–axis. Some scenarios were applied for both structures conditioned with free space, dielectric, and conductive medium. The attenuation rate obtained from three modelling scenarios in Cartesian coordinate system structures were 0.35 Np/m, 0.24 Np/m, and 0.62 Np/m, respectively. Meanwhile the attenuation rates for cylindrical coordinate system structure were 0.35 Np/m, 0.21 Np/m, and 0.40 Np/m. The simulation result for resonant frequency in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate systemstructure conditioned with free space were 558.706 MHz and 498.466 MHz, respectively. The resonant frequency obtainedfrom simulation result in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinatesystem structure conditioned with dielectric medium was similar with the one from theoretical calculation in which the highesterror were 2.03% and 0.73%, respectively.

Abstract

Secret key generation scheme that utilizesthe randomness of wireless channels is a very promising alternative to establish a secure communication path. Some wireless devices are used to obtain the channel parameters. But the problem that occurs is imprecise measurement results, causinga secret key difference between the two users. To overcome this problem, pre-processing method is used before the data is quantized, to increase the similarity (reciprocity) channel parameter measurement results. In this paper, the effect of the use of one pre-process method, which was hierarchical clustering, on the performance of secret key generation scheme in an indoorenvironment with two variations of scenario was investigated.The results show that the use of the pre-processingmethod can improve the similarity parameter of the channel measurement results as indicated by the increasing of correlation values up to 20%. In addition, the resulting bit mismatch also decreases with the value of key disagreement rate (KDR) maximum of 20%.

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is small embedded devices deployed in large scale network and has capability to sense, compute, and communicate with others. It combines modern sensor, microelectronic, computer, communication, and distributed processing technology. It takes into account in several aspects of live especially in structural health monitoring systemof bridge. Due to environmental circumstance, a bridge should be monitored to make sure that it can perform its service safely. Therefore, it is necessary to develop WSN application to monitor bridge condition and send warning message to control room if the bridge is under abnormal condition. This paper proposes the development of automatic WSN system for measuring the level of bridge structural health based on its dynamic responses. The main contribution of this work is developing WSN system for vibration-based bridge condition assessment in which identifies the bridge’s fundamental frequency and mode shape. Experimental result shows that the fundamental frequency measured by our proposed system is close to the value analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA) and according to Modal Assurance Criteriation (MAC), our proposed measurement system has correlation with FEA.

Abstract

Nowadays, brain signal measurement devices or Electroencephalogram (EEG) are used not only for medical purposes but also for other applications, such as video games (in virtual reality) and biofeedback simulator. A wearable, easy to use and configure, wireless and open system EEG are now very important for those applications. This paper will discuss the design of a wearable and wireless EEG headset. The EEG headset is a bamboo-based headset which was designed with adjustable electrodes positioner to fit the headset with various sizes of head. Other features included in the design is the ability to reduce motion artifacts by adding springs on the electrode’s holder. Four healthy subjects were included during the performance testing of the headset. The performance was tested by comparing the correlation coefficient of the acquired data using headset with the one recorded without headset in frequency domain. The results show that the wearable EEG headset prototype is more robust in minimizing the effect of head movement. It is indicated by higher average value of the coefficient correlation in the EEG recording with headset.

Abstract

Model estimation based on the observation data of a system’s states is an important subject in the study of dynamical systems. Maximum likelihood (ML) estimation is a stochastic estimation method which can be used to obtain an optimal set of parameter based on noisy measurements. This paper describes the method and implementation of the ML estimator to identify an optimal parameter set in a discrete-time nonlinear state space model. In particular, the optimal parameter set is defined as the value that minimizes the error between the actual and estimated model outputs of the system. This paper discusses a gradient-based optimization that is equipped with sensitivity analysis method for searching such a parameter set. Simulation results which describe an implementation of the proposed estimation method in a nonlinear system model are also discussed.

Abstract

Power Wheeling is cooperation of using power system network that owned by a party to transmit power from an entity to other entity. Power Wheeling scheme has been implemented in Indonesia since ministry regulation about it has been published. Implementation of Power Wheeling on a system will influence existing system condition. This paper aims to identify the effect of Power Wheeling implementation on a power system in Indonesia, that is Barito System. The result from load flow analysis shows that implementation of power wheeling affectsignificantly on each substation voltage. Short circuit current increases after Power Wheeling implementation but still withinstandard limitation. Stability analysis also shows that system is in normal condition.
