Abstract

In the midst of urban expansion in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, bird diversity in rice field habitats is threatened with extinction, even though rice paddies play an important role as ecological corridors that support opportunistic species such as Passeriformes in controlling pests and maintaining the balance of agricultural ecosystems. This study identified and analyzed bird communities (Aves) in the BTN Kopajali rice field area and the Ring Road in April-May 2025, using direct observation methods in three plots per location, as well as analysis of Shannon-Wiener (H'), dominance (C), importance value (INP), and evenness (E) indices. The main findings include four species namely, Botaurus cinnamomeus (Gmelin, JF, 1789), Lonchura maja (Linnaeus, 1766), Lonchura leucogastroides (Horsfield & Moore, 1856), and Passer montanus (Linnaeus, 1758), with the order Passeriformes dominating abundance (H' = 1.15 at location 1 and 1.09 at location 2, classified as moderate). The low dominance index and high evenness indicate that the community structure is stable, influenced by food availability and minimal human disturbance, although the homogeneity of the habitat in the second location limits diversity. The implications of this study highlight the need for rice field conservation as an urban buffer to prevent the decline of bird biodiversity.

Abstract

This research was conducted to examine in more detail the saprobity status of Lake Tajwid based on its plankton composition. The lake is located in Langgam Subdistrict, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province. This research used a quantitative descriptive approach, while sampling was carried out at three research stations selected to represent the water conditions at each station. The results of the study showed the presence of 39 plankton genus. Phytoplankton was dominated by the Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta groups, while zooplankton was dominated by Rotifera. Plankton abundance ranged from 2960 to 6360 individuals per liter, indicating that the waters were mesotrophic. The diversity index (H') was >3, indicating that the waters were at a moderate level of stability, while the dominance index (C) was close to 0, indicating that no particular genus dominated the waters. The results of the physical-chemical parameter measurements showed that the water conditions were still within a range that supported plankton survival. Based on the saprobity analysis results, the waters of Lake Tajwid can be classified as Oligo/β-Mesosaprobic, reflecting that the waters are at a level of light to very light pollution.

Abstract

Kombucha is a fermented beverage produced through the metabolic activities of a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). It has attracted significant scientific and commercial interest due to its potential health-promoting properties, including its role in lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, and the risk of kidney damage, as well as improving immune system function. The growing demand for high-quality kombucha has highlighted the importance of understanding the microbiological aspects of its production. The fermentation process involves a complex interplay between acetic acid bacteria, various yeast species, and lactic acid bacteria, which contribute to the bioconversion of sucrose into ethanol, acetic acid, lactic acid, and other organic compounds. These metabolites are essential not only for the beverage’s sensory characteristics but also for its functional properties. Comprehensive knowledge of microbial diversity and their metabolic pathways is crucial for optimising fermentation conditions, enhancing product consistency, and minimising the risk of contamination. Moreover, the dynamic succession of microbial populations during fermentation affects the overall biochemical profile of the final product. This paper aims to review the dominant microorganisms involved in kombucha fermentation and analyse key biochemical changes during the fermentation process. Such insights are essential for process standardisation and the development of efficient, scalable production systems in the kombucha industry.

Abstract

Analysis of the availability and accuracy of concepts in textbooks is very important to clarify unavailable and inaccurate concepts presented in textbooks. This study aims to find the availability and accuracy of the contents of the textbook text in the Nondisjunction and Lethal Gene sub-material in Grade XII Biology textbooks. The analysis focused on the four most commonly used Biology textbooks in 27 high schools in Pontianak City. Qualitative descriptive method with an analysis approach was used. The results of the study showed the availability of important concepts in the nondisjunction and lethal gene sub-material in books A, B and C, there were five available concepts, while in book D there were four available concepts. Overall, one case of oversimplification and three cases of misidentification were found across the four textbooks, particularly in the concepts of the mechanism of nondisjunction in meiosis I and II as well as examples and effects of lethal genes in living organisms.

Abstract

Differentiated learning is a strategy that customizes learning content, processes, and activities to accommodate the diverse needs of students. It is a key approach for addressing the varied learning styles and abilities within a classroom. This study aims to identify the categories of differentiated learning module design, the implementation of differentiated learning, and the opportunities and challenges faced by teachers. The research uses a qualitative approach with a survey research design. The population consists of all science teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Banda Aceh, totalling five individuals. This study used a total sampling technique. The research parameters include categories of differentiated learning module design, categories of differentiated learning implementation in classroom, and the opportunities and challenges encountered by teachers. Data analysis was conducted using percentage calculations based on Guttman scale scoring. The results show that the science teachers’ differentiated learning modules have an average score of 86%, which falls into the good category. The implementation of differentiated learning reached 96.6%, classified as very good. Teachers viewed differentiated learning as providing opportunities to improve learning outcomes, student engagement, the use of technology, and the development of teacher competencies. However, the obstacles faced included difficulties in adjusting to student needs, limited resources, and unequal access to technology.
