Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Deep Learning approach and explore the communication skills of fourth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School, Bangkalan, due to low participation and low quality of student idea delivery. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model (data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing). The results indicate that Deep Learning through authentic projects demonstrated changes in students' verbal participation patterns through collaborative tasks and improved the coherence of ideas due to the demands of critical thinking. This implementation fostered communication skills by facilitating the functional need to speak in small groups, which is an effective countermeasure to passivity in the classroom. However, its implementation still faced limitations due to the limited time allocated for in-depth dialogic discussions and teacher feedback that focused more on content than on the communication process. This study concludes that Deep Learning is a rich context, but it needs to be supported by a more active teacher role in providing explicit instruction and facilitating dialogue to optimize students' communication potential holistically.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the application of the Problem Solving method assisted by video media, and (2) improve the of critical thinking skills of grade V elementary school students through the Problem Solving method assisted by video media. The method uses Classroom Action Research (PTK) for two cycles. The subjects of the study were 29 students in grade V of SD Negeri Tambak Wedi 508 Surabaya. Data was collected through observation and test techniques. Quantitative data from observations and tests were analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score and percentage improvement. The results of the study showed an improvement in the quality of method application, especially in the problem formulation and hypothesis submission phases, after scaffolding in the form of structured worksheets and guiding questions. Significant improvements also occurred in students' critical thinking skills. In Cycle I, the majority of students (59%) were in the Sufficient category and 34% in the Need for Guidance category. After the improvement in Cycle II, there was a drastic change, where 59% of students moved up to the Good category and there were no more students in the Need for Guidance category. Observations show. Thus, the Problem Solving method assisted by video media can improve the critical thinking skills of grade V elementary school students. The success of its implementation depends on the proper scaffolding planning and the creation of a supportive learning climate. This study recommends using a similar approach to develop higher-level thinking skills in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of digital folklore media "Asal-Usul Surabaya" as an Indonesian learning medium for instilling values in elementary schools. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using semi-structured interview guidelines, participant observation with observation sheets and field notes, and documentation studies. The data is analyzed interactively which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. The results of the study show that: (1) Media implementation requires pedagogical adaptation of teachers and is supported by visionary school policies; (2) Media succeeds in increasing student engagement in a multimodal manner and functions as a common ground for learning; (3) Narrative understanding and internalization of students' character values increases, although there are technical and cognitive constraints that require improvement of media design. The discussion linked the findings to TPACK theory, cognitive theory of multimedia learning, and multimodal literacy, which confirmed that success is determined by the synergy between school policies, teachers' pedagogical competence, and inclusive media design principles. Digital folklore is an effective learning medium for elementary Indonesian. Its effectiveness is multifactorial, depending on the school's policy support, the teacher's ability to design and mediate learning, and the quality of the media design itself that takes into account the technical and cognitive aspects of the students. This study recommends a holistic approach in adopting similar media to ensure sustainability and optimal learning impact.
