IBDA`: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Budaya focuses on the study of Islamic culture that developed in society, as well as the culture that developed in Muslim societies. The scope of the study includes: a) Beliefs system in Islam, b) Ideas of Muslim scholars, c) Ritual system in Islam, d) Islamic institutions and organizations, e) Traditions or customs in Islamic society, and f) Literature and Islamic arts. IBDA`: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Budaya aims to build a comprehensive understanding of Islamic norms in religious texts and their realization in social life. If the author comes from Indonesia, please submit articles in Indonesian. After the article has accepted to publish by the Ibda Journal Editorial Board, the writer of the article must be willing to follow the rules for translating the article into English with the translator specified by the Ibda Journal.

Abstract

This article discusses and analyzes the belief systems of AbogeIslamic community. In Java, Islam has a unique variant. It is correlatedwith how Islam spreads and process its acculturation with existed Javaneseculture. To examine the belief systems and practices of this ritual, thedata collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Thisarticle suggests that religious teachings and beliefs of the Aboge JavaneseMuslim Community are taught for generations. Aboge adherents say thatthe core of their teachings are believed to refer to the Qur'an and Hadith.

Abstract

This article discusses the cultural assimilation of Kliwonan traditionwith Islamic teachings. Author took some views of Clifford Geertz toexplore the phenomenon of Kliwonan tradition. In that way, it is understoodthat there is a correlation between the pattern of Javanese life withthe teachings of Islam as something noble. Kliwonan done congregationaltradition and intimacy occurs between them. People who do become traditionKliwonan feel close to the Creator, the Almighty God. Tradition asa medium to get closer through the inner region.

Abstract

This paper discusses Bawor as a local icon of the Banyumas. Baworis one of the characters that exist only in a clown-puppet in Banyumas.To understand Bawor, we need to understand the visual semiotics of personalitybased on his existing structure forms. Of these interpretations, itis understood that Bawor has characteristics of cablaka, glogok sor, innocent,critical, modest, and clamit, that is transformed the Banyumas society.Several personalities from Bawor in line with Islamic values becausepuppets that developing in Banyumas is the result of the spread of theteachings of Sunan Kalijaga.

Abstract

This paper intends to present a brief understanding of the generalcondition of the relationship between religion and society in Indonesia.No longer any prophet as role model of Islam led to debate about Islam asa doctrine and religious practice, which is in the course of time the socialand political aspects are often greatly influenced its development. Thecondition is not as simple as when the Prophet was alive. Islam is movingdevelopments not only in the Middle East means the area has resulted inthe distance from the center of Islam. Contextualization in terms of thephysical form of Islam to be logical here, namely local community as abody, and Islam as the content.

Abstract

This paper explores the culture of Islam that is practiced in ruralcommunities in Aceh. Cultural practices are carried from generation togeneration. This paper uses Berger viewpoint associated with externalizing,internalizing, and objectification that is synergistic with the HerbertBlumer’s theory of symbolic interactionist to see the reality of meaning.The results shows that the cultural practice is still running strong todaydue to the construction of the three pillars of an active role in this community,namely 1) the construction process through intergenerationalvalue transfer, 2) meunasah or mosque as a center for media uniformity ofmeaning that construct and maintain a common meaning, and 3) socialfeedback as the binding effect of community participation.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the origin of the town ofPonorogo as well as the existence of Reyog Ponorogo as local wisdomthat has been known worldwide. Historical emergence and establishmentof Reyog Ponorogo and the town of Ponorogo, relating to the role of thethe first head of this district, namely Bathara Katong, which brings withit the mission of spreading Islam. Results of the analysis of this articleproves that through Reyog Ponorogo, Bathara Katong open the gates ofIslam in Ponorogo.

Abstract

This paper reveals the development of gamelan in digital form which is done in many different forms, ranging from stand-alone e-gamelan, Internet-based e-gamelan, and e-gamelan in mobile devices. Gamelan musical instruments has been a Javanese cultural identity since time immemorial. Gamelan Javanese cultural identity that has, in fact full of Islamic values. Therefore, with the digitization gamelan, this is tantamount to doing good and as a means to draw closer to Allah SWT.

Abstract

This paper attempts to describe and analyze the sculpture/carving,known as the Macan Kurung (Tiger in a Cage). The data were collectedby the method of documentation, interviews, and observations, while thestudy approach used is semiotics. This article shows that the Tigers Bracketsis a visual language that is full of messages and values. In the contextof Javanese Islam, the tiger is wild creatures as a symbol of wild lust thathave to be caged and chained. Disciplining the passions become an importanttheme of Macan Kurung message. In addition, the Macan Kurungalso a cultural captivity protest message in a colonized society.

Abstract

This paper reveals about the life of Islam and its interaction withreligious believers in the Turgo Village on the slopes of Merapi. Turgosociety living in harmony, which is built on the collective cultural values.Between residents of different religions established communication andinteraction are active in various aspects of community life, such as environmentalconservation, social and religious interaction, and cultural actionundertaken jointly with models of their own religion. Harmony inthe society due to cultural aspects are preferred in communication andinteraction patterns in the life of a pluralistic rather than the religiousaspect. That is, in the public space, culture plays an important role inorder to create harmony.

Abstract

This paper discusses the contents of religious values in batik. Classicalbatik motifs interpreted as decoration that was created in ancienttimes. The ornament is not something that only visually beautiful, butalso given a meaning that is closely related to Javanese philosophy ofhuman life. This means that the Java man, the beauty of decorative batikis more understood as an attempt to provide breath and soul of traditionalclothing. In the life cycle of Java people, Solo batik cloth used in theevent-related customs Javanese ritual called slametan (salvation). Slametanceremony is a socio-religious activities of the Java community.
