Abstract

A new design of a portable, inexpensive, and easy to assemble horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) system for harnessing wind energy that can be reproduced by individuals in the need of electricity has been implemented. The design still follows the Betz’ law theory to define the maximum electrical power that can be extracted from the wind in an open flow area. From our measurement data, the Betz Limit (C) of our design wind turbine is approximately 0.48, meaning it can capture not more than 48% of the incoming kinetic energy of the wind. It was found also that the system can generate a stable at least 5V and 1A of DC voltage and current, respectively. The wind speed is at least ranging from 35 to 55 km/h (∼10 to 15 m/s). We conclude that this HAWT is still able to charge some rechargeable energy recharging devices, such as smart phone or power bank. This HAWT must be put outside to obtain a good amount of wind. But, actually it does not provide a waterproof protection system to make it usable in a rainy season. For further research, a new portable wind turbine can be designed to generate more electric power with waterproof ability system such like using PVC or acrylic which is modeled by this simple prototype. Keywords: Betz Limit, energy recharging devices, harness, maximum power,  portable.

Abstract

One of the functions of a digital clock is to wake us from sleep, in order to perform the activities as scheduled. Technological developments allow the incorporation of digital clock function with voice recognition, making it easier for us to do as to turn off the alarm without having to press a button, asking what time without having to view the display, and so forth. From these points of view, the idea to design and to implement a “Digital Clock with Speech Recognition” came up. This experiment concentrates in designing the hardware and the software that will work as an integration system of circuit that has the digital clock function. The circuit also has other function which is the speech recognition. Through this function, the user of the circuit will be able to record his or her voice in the form of short words. After the recording, the user can start to order the circuit to recognize his or hervoice. Finally, both digital clock and speech recognition functions are combined to work together, therefore when there is a voice recognized, then the speech recognition circuit will send a digital signal to the digital clock circuit to be processed as an input signal to operate certain digital clock function. Keywords: digital clock, speech recognition, microcontroller ATmega8535

Abstract

ABSTRACTAutomation is a solution to improve things in industrial world. The automation itself makes the system able to work automatically and decrease the use of man power. Modulator is a part of conditioner system that was being produced without using automation. The process to produce the modulator consists of a number of steps: loading, cutting, washing, drying, and finishing. In order to wash and to dry the modulator automatically, several industrial components are used as the actuators to execute the process. The industrial components such as water pump, solenoid valve, proximity sensor, and pneumatic cylinder are controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The PLC uses ladder programming language to decide the behavior of the system. A feedback system is applied to the system to get a better performance in terms of process lead time. The performance of the process is better after using the feedback system. The system without feedback has an average lead time of 15.4 s and the system with feedback has an average lead time of 14.7 s.Keywords: automation, modulator, PLC, ladder programming language, feedback, lead time.

Abstract

In Indonesia urban area, due to low water distribution pressure at day, many inhabitants who live far from water distribution center get their fresh water share only at night or sometimes never. In order to ensure even distributed fresh water, there is a certain pressure that needs to be maintained. On a real technical project, an advance cascade controller will be installed in a water treatment plant to control multiple pump for maintaining distribution pressure. Furthermore, a corresponding Human Machine Interface (HMI) will be installed for easier daily monitoring and operation. Measurement data shows improved performance of the system, with only 0.02 bar of pressure error and better load distribution among the operating pumps. Abstract

This project is aimed to create simulation software which can give an optimal route based on the condition given by the user. Travelling salesman problem, fuzzy logic and Dijkstra’s algorithm will be used as benchmark of the software. The program will be developed in MATLAB 7.0. Fuzzy logic will process the current condition of the map become input for Dijkstra’s algorithm. The result of the program will be an optimal route from three points of view; distance, density, and confusion. In order to verify the result of the program, it will be compared with the result of people’s opinions in the same problem. Keywords: Routing, fuzzy logic, Dikstra’s algorithm, Matlab
