Abstract

The “Green Movement: Mangrove Nursery with Pokmaswas Bina Lestari” program in Lembung Village, Galis Sub District, Pamekasan District aims to strengthen the capacity of coastal communities in mangrove nursery management and strengthening the role of Pokmaswas as a key actor in community-based conservation. Implemented through a participatory-collaborative approach, this activity actively involved the local community in each stage of the process, from propagule collection and preparation of seeding media to periodic monitoring and maintenance. The program successfully produced approximately 5,000 Rhizophora stylosa seedlings, achieving a 99% survival rate after two months. This high rate reflects not only the suitability of local environmental conditions but also the effectiveness of community engagement and shared responsibility in protecting coastal ecosystems. In addition to ecological contributions such as shoreline stabilization and habitat enhancement, this initiative also generated social and economic benefits. Community awareness of environmental stewardship increased significantly, and new opportunities emerged, including educational tourism, environmental outreach, and potential income from mangrove seedling sales. Overall, the program demonstrates how collaborative conservation efforts can deliver sustainable environmental impacts while empowering coastal communities.

Abstract

Communication is a strategic element in supporting the effectiveness of participatory and accountable village governance. However, several issues remain, including the low interpersonal communication skills of village officials, weak internal coordination, and the suboptimal use of digital communication technologies. Therefore, this activity aims to enhance the communication competencies of village apparatus through systematically and applicatively designed training. The methods employed include lectures, discussions, and practical simulations of governmental communication. The training materials cover understanding public service communication at the village level, interpersonal communication and internal coordination, the use of village communication media (e.g., WhatsApp, village websites, social media), public message formulation and information management, and simulations of public service communication with citizens. Participants consisted of village heads, secretaries, hamlet heads, neighborhood leaders (RT/RW), and public service staff. Evaluation results show a significant improvement in participants’ communication understanding and skills, with an average increase from 48.2% before training to 81.4% after training. Village officials became more skilled in delivering information, utilizing digital media, and engaging in empathetic and effective communication with the community. These findings affirm that enhancing communication capacity is a key component in building responsive, transparent, and participatory village governance, in line with good governance principles in local development. Furthermore, the training encouraged officials to become more adaptive in conveying information efficiently and promptly.

Abstract

Solid waste management in Indonesia still faces a major service gap, as reflected by open dumping, open burning, and disposal into water bodies. In Lima Puluh Kota Regency, 81.57% of the 2024 waste generation was reported as unmanaged, while the Payakumbuh Regional Landfill became inoperable following an explosion and landslide in late 2023. This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of the PKH Kepompong Waste Bank in Jorong Sopan to manage household organic waste through Source-Based Waste Processing Technology (TOSS). The program employed a sequence of activities: awareness-raising on source segregation, introduction to the TOSS workflow, and hands-on training on producing eco-enzyme from fruit waste as a bio-activator, followed by composting practice using a 30×30×30 cm bamboo box. A total of 37 waste bank members participated, with an emphasis on practical skill development. The results indicate that participants improved their understanding of organic–inorganic segregation, were able to prepare eco-enzyme, and practiced composting so that decomposed material could be harvested as compost. Key enabling factors included the post-landfill disruption urgency, the waste bank’s institutional support, and simple locally available materials; constraints involved consistent segregation, moisture/aeration control, and the eco-enzyme fermentation period. Simple SOPs, community monitors, and basic indicator recording are recommended to sustain routine adoption. TOSS implementation has the potential to reduce open burning and river dumping, minimize odors and flies, and divert the dominant organic fraction into inputs for home gardening. Compost can be used for household gardens or marketed locally.

Abstract

Coastal areas face high risks of hydrological disasters that demand early preparedness, particularly among the youth. However, conventional mitigation education methods often fail to stimulate active student participation. This community service aims to strengthen disaster awareness in coastal and marine environments at SMA Negeri 20 Medan through gamification-based digital learning innovations. The approach was structured experiential learning, comprising digital learning design, socialization of mitigation concepts, and hands-on learning using simulation game media. In these sessions, students were challenged to make tactical mitigation decisions within virtual disaster scenarios. Evaluation of the activity demonstrated significant effectiveness, with student engagement levels recording above 80%. The application of gamification proved to deliver an immersive experience that enabled students to design area mitigation, evidenced by 90% of students successfully achieving the highest scores in the simulation to create disaster-free zones. This activity concludes that integrating gamification into disaster education effectively transforms theoretical understanding into practical competence while enhancing collective student awareness of coastal environmental risks and disaster mitigation.

Abstract

The increasing number of older adults requires promotive and preventive efforts to maintain quality of life, as aging is associated with declines in physical, psychological, and social functioning. Preliminary observations in RW 13, Leuwigajah Village, South Cimahi District, revealed that many older adults did not engage in regular physical activity and had limited knowledge regarding safe and appropriate exercise. This program aimed to improve older adults’ knowledge through a Structured Elderly Exercise Program (Senam Ceria) integrating health education and direct practice. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The intervention consisted of health education sessions, interactive discussions, structured exercise practice, and leaflet distribution. A total of 11 older adults participated in the program. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results demonstrated an increase in the mean knowledge score from 77.27 ± 8.28 in the pre-test to 97.27 ± 4.67 in the post-test. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.003). The distribution of knowledge categories improved from 45% “good” and 55% “moderate” at pre-test to 100% “good” at post-test. The Structured Elderly Exercise Program (Senam Ceria) was proven effective in enhancing knowledge, participation, and awareness of the importance of regular physical activity among older adults. The program is recommended for sustainable implementation as part of community-based elderly health promotion initiatives.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low awareness of construction workers towards K3 in a small-scale boarding house construction project in Wanamukti, Tembalang, Semarang, where the construction sector contributes >30% of national work accidents due to minimal use of PPE and supervision. The problem formulation includes low knowledge ofK3, non-compliance with PPE, and the absence of simple SOPs that lead to high risks and low productivity. The program's objective is to improve understanding, skills, and a safe work culture through training and mentoring. The research method consisted of an initial survey, a pretest with 15 workers, applied K3 training with PPE demonstrations and safety talks, field mentoring, and a posttest using the N Gain formula. The results showed an increase in posttest scores from the range of 30–60 to 70–95 (100% of participants increased), with an average N Gain of 56.78% (moderate category); workers began to get used to wearing helmets, safety shoes, and gloves, and a decrease in unsafe acts. The conclusion is that the training is effective in improving safety and productivity. Suggestions for future service include continuing regular training, developing K3 SOPs, and expanding to similar projects in several other cities.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the digital financial literacy of traditional jamu sellers in Karya Jaya Village, Rambutan District, Tebing Tinggi City, through the implementation of a structured training and mentoring model. The program was designed using a participatory approach that integrated needs assessment, classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, and post-training mentoring. Initial field observations revealed that most participants relied on memory-based or manual bookkeeping practices, resulting in inaccurate financial records, difficulty separating personal and business finances, and limited ability to evaluate profitability. Training sessions introduced participants to user-friendly digital bookkeeping applications, particularly VoCash, focusing on cash flow recording, expense categorization, financial separation, and preparation of basic financial reports. Evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments demonstrated an average increase of 45% in participants’ financial knowledge and digital competency. Furthermore, 85% of participants reported being able to independently record transactions after the mentoring phase. Beyond technical improvements, the program fostered behavioral changes in financial discipline and transparency. The findings indicate that community-based digital literacy interventions can significantly strengthen micro-entrepreneurs’ financial management capacity and support sustainable local economic development.
