Abstract

At first the base and superstructure were born from Marx's observations of class structure, which are widely interpreted as cultural theory. Mark thinks culture is determined by matter. This is in line with the phenomenon that is currently happening in society. It is different with Raymodn William who considers culture to be the values stored in a particular community, be it heritage and so on. He also called it the way of life, how people in certain communities live. And call the culture of creative creativity as a process of creating or an effort to build. The difference between Mark and Raymond Williams lies in their starting point, Mark departs from material analysis towards consciousness, while Raymond Williams is the opposite. Raymond Williams tries to show the direction so that awareness of social life that departs from materialism becomes awareness of culture.
