Abstract

Maintaining a meaning, a translator often performs some shifts to adjust the grammar rules and equivalents. As unavoidable acts, the translation shifts represent different cultures and different thoughts that represent in both grammatical rules of languages involved. According to Catford (1965) shifts are consists of two parts, namely level shift (Level Shift) and category shift (Category Shift). In this study, some analysis using Catford's theories were put to analyze the translation shifts occurred in the official Ruangguru career website. Identifying types of shifts was the main focus. The study method used was a comparative-descriptive-qualitative approach. The results obtained in this study are 30% (thirty percent) unit shifts, 40% (forty percent) structure shifts, and 30% (thirty percent) Intra-System Shifts. Shifts in translation occur due to adjustments to the translation caused by differences in grammatical rules. From the analysis of the shifts carried out, three types of shifts were found in the translation. These shifts are shifts in units, shifts in structure, and shifts in intra-systems. Skills on applying the shift rules may assist a translator to have the best translation equivalence. Keywords: Translation, Translation shift, Category shift, Ruangguru Career

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characterization of Edmund in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Witch, The Lion and The Wardrobe film. As for in revealing the character of Edmund, the author will analyzed through psychoanalysis approach from Sigmund Freud about the Id, Ego and Superego. This approach is used ,because the theory of psychoanalysis is able to reveal the unconscious impulses that affect human behavior. Through such behavior, researchers can determine the portrayal of Edmund's character. Data collection was conducted with descriptive qualitative method. The result of this research is the contradiction between the id, ego and superego which is completely dominated by the id. The domination of the id affects the behavior of Edmund which is loving, curious, ambitious, impressionable, greedy, liar and courageous. Keywords: Film, Characterization, Psychoanalysis

Abstract

Komunikasi merupakan salah satu sarana dalam menyampaikan informasi. di era modern ini, komunikasi dapat dilakukan menggunakan media sosial. Salah satu media sosial yang memiliki banyak pengguna yaitu Instagram. Instagram memberikan layanan untuk saling berbagi foto dan video. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan multimodalitas, penelitian ini akan menganalisis visual dan verbal menggunakan metafungsi ideational dan interpersonal pada unggahan di akun Instagram resmi WHO (World Health Organization). Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini ialah adanya perbedaan proses yang terjadi pada klausa di kedua data. dan adanya kesamaan pada analisis visualnya. Meskipun kedua klausa memiliki perbedaan tetapi dapat memberikan informasi yang saling berkaitan. Sehingga hasil dari analisi kedua data tersebut yaitu informasi dapat tersampaikan dengan menggunakan dua mode, visual dan verbal. Kata kunci: Instagram, Multimodalitas, Sosial media

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakterisasi Jack dalam film Wonder (2017). Wonder adalah film drama keluarga Amerika 2017 yang disutradarai oleh Stephen Chbosky dan diproduksi oleh Michael Beugg, dan Clark, David Hoberman dan Todd Lieberman. Ditulis oleh Jack Thorne, Steve Conrad dan Stephen Chbosky berdasarkan novel Wonder oleh R.J. Palacio. Film ini bercerita tentang seorang anak laki-laki dengan cacat fisik bernama August Pullman yang mengalami bullying di sekolah. Jack adalah salah satu karakter yang ingin berteman dengan August Pullman. Data yang diidentifikasi dianalisis sesuai dengan pendekatan intrinsik oleh Edgar V. Roberts yang dikutip oleh Rondonuwu (13) dalam analisis Menulis karakter utama dalam film Barbie of Swan Lake. Abstract

This study aims to show the deviation of onomatopoeic sounds pronounced by children aged 4-5 years with their main language other than English. In this study, the onomatopoeic sounds used as data sources were the sounds of “quack,” “oink,” “swish,” “choo-choo” and “moo'' which were found in English children's songs. The data collection technique was carried out by making an audio recording containing the onomatopoeic pronunciation by the research objects. In addition, a questionnaire was given to the parents/guardians of the research objects containing questions regarding the background of the research objects. By using descriptive qualitative research methods, the researchers found several onomatopoeic sound deviations, including non-palatalisation, apocope, raising vocal, lowering vocal, etc. Keywords: English language, children’s songs, Onomatopoeia, Phonology

Abstract

The study investigates onomatopoeia in all of its forms and meanings as seen in the digital comic "Miles Morales: Spider-Man 2019" by Saladin Ahmed on the website https://readcomicsfree.com. It employed Sperber and Wilson's relevance theory (1986) to describe meanings in digital comics through a descriptive qualitative approach based on the interdependence of onomatopoeia and imagery. The theories of Wijana (2008) and Thomas and Clara (2004) were used to categorize the types of onomatopoeia. Data was gathered using episode 1 page 9-23 and episode 20 page 14. The findings indicate a link between onomatopoeia and imagery in determining communicated meanings. Onomatopoeia can be monosilable, bisilable, or multisilable in terms of morphology. It is recognized for its ability to mimic human and animal sounds, as well as other sounds. The narrative messages of digital comics can be fully comprehended using these concepts. Abstract

Movies are identical to characters. If the characters are less attractive, the audience's interest can also decrease. Therefore, it is also important that a character has characteristics that specifically describe the character's personality and what traits are contained in him. For instance, The Great Gatsby (2013) movie features the main character with a romantic theme taken during the era of World War I. Gatsby's interesting character will make people interested in watching the film. The purposes of this study are to find out the characteristics of Gatsby and the six pillars of character attached to Gatsby. The method used in this analysis is qualitative. The data used in this study is a conversation, taken from a transcription, from a film entitled The Great Gatsby (2013), which can be watched streaming on the HBO application. The object of the research is the main character, namely Gatsby. This study shows that Gatsby has arrogant characteristics, feels nervous about something, feels loved, is persistent, and has high expectations. And according to the Josephson Of Institute's six pillars, there are several categories of six pillars within Gatsby, namely caring, respect, responsibility, and citizenship. Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of indirect directive illocutionary speech acts in Bungou Stray Dogs anime. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a note-taking technique. The core theory in this study is Austin's speech act theory and Saifudin's indirect illocutionary theory. The data were analyzed based on the Namatame’s theory to classify the meaning of indirect directive illocutionary speech acts. From the results of the study, there were 4 meaning of the indirect directive illocutionary speech act in Bungou Stray Dogs anime. There were commanding meaning that is utteranced implicitly using declarative sentences, requests meaning that is utteranced implicitly using declarative and interrogative sentences, prohibitions meaning that is utteranced implicitly using declarative and interrogative sentences, and suggestions meaning that is utteranced implicitly using declarative sentences. Abstract

This study analyzes the meaning of symbols in Bear Brand Milk Advertising (2021). The author aims to reveal the meaning of the symbols contained in the Bear Brand milk advertisement (2021). This study uses a qualitative method with a semiotic approach to the Roland Barthes model. Data were collected by analyzing sentences and visuals that appeared in Bear Brand's (2021) milk advertisements. There are two types of meaning, namely denotation and connotation contained in the sign of a black creature, a white dragon and a can of milk packaging contained in the Bear Brand (2021) milk advertisement. Abstract

This study aims to determine the responses of respondents to the kanji tabi game learning media. The method used is the ADDIE method (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Making kanji tabi game using Godot engine software. Questionnaires were used as a tool to collect respondents' responses and distributed to 16 11th grade students at MA Alhuda Pameungpeuk. The results of respondents' responses to the kanji tabi game learning media show that kanji tabi is included in the neutral interval and agrees with the criterion value of 572 on the rating scale. The results of these criteria can be concluded that the media for learning the kanji tabi game is quite good and can help beginners learn kanji N5. This media is expected to help students in learning the N5 kanji. Keywords: Japanese language, kanji N5, learning media, godot engine
