Abstract

Abstract

With the development of information technology, computer has played more and more important role in many regions and human’s life. The number of computer and network users is increasing minutes by minutes which make this global network and its information expanding rapidly day by day. Meanwhile, the modern computerized information system has been developed rapidly and implemented in many regions, such as education regions, enterprise and provides an electronic means to access information and data. As the fast development of computerized system, the W3C group has developed a flexible language named XML. The W3C has deemed the Extensible Markup Language (XML) will form the important basis for the information interchange and accessing in the field of computer network. It will make the electronic exchange of documents and other exchangeable information much easier, convenient and less expensive. At the same time, the security requirement (e.g. integrity, authenticity of the information and/or data and/or signer authentication) of accessing and exchanging information and data in a modern computerized information system has increased rapidly, and now, as the development of XML function, a new efficient security technology is provided which is named XML digital signature (XMLDsig). The XML digital signature provides a more flexible secured technology to keep the integrity and authenticity of data and/or information. This paper aim to embed and implement XML based digital signatures to an existing Student Query System model in order to achieve the user authentication and integrity of accessing data and/or information from the system.

Abstract

Data compression is a technique to reduce the size of the data so it could save space on data storage. There are two approaches in compressing data. These approaches are Lossy and Lossless. In this paper, Lossless data compression approach has been applied to reduce the size of text data. There are some algorithms to compress text data such as Bit Reduction, Huffman Coding, and LZW. Previous researchers have made various attempts from these three algorithms by combining two of these algorithms to obtain the better compression ratio and better saving percentage. This paper only focus in the compression technique although the decompression technique has been made into the same program. There are six combinations of text compression techniques in three stages. Combination of LZW and bit reduction gave best compression ratio among the other combination of two stages. In addition, Combination of LZW, bit reduction and Huffman gave best compression ratio among the other combination of three stages. The combination of the three stages has a compression ratio that is better than the combination of two stages. Compared to the combination of two stages, Combination of bit reduction, Huffman and LZW improved compression ratio that is better than other combination of three stages.

Abstract

As one of the factors supporting the nation's economy, the existence of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) need attention and support, both in terms of guidance from the government, aid loans from banks and use of information technology. Given some limitations such as limited SMEs in marketing, interacting with other business and limitations in the procurement of information technology, it is necessary to have a platform for SMEs to conduct their business activities and interact with other SME or external parties, in an internet-based application called e-collaboration. By utilizing the concept of service-oriented architecture (Service Oriented Architecture), this paper resulted in the design of conceptual business architecture and technology architecture support. The author conducted research in the field to determine the condition of the SMEs and formulate appropriate business needs to define the business architecture. Business architecture defines the business component SMEs and collaborative business processes that occur in the environment of these SMEs. Business architecture is translated into a conceptual architecture for defining design technology that will be used to support the use of information technology shared services to run business collaboration. The design of e-collaboration application that is able to define all components produced in small business and accommodate the needs of the overall business processes for SMEs both the internal business processes and business collaboration process with external parties. To support the business collaboration with external parties, we need to define the service contract and service level agreement which include the procedure and process standarization to exchange the data. For validation, the author perform an inspection of the functionality owned by the e-collaboration applications which will be made into a a service evaluation matrix and traceability matrix to match if the design has been constructed in accordance with business needs. In addition, a simple prototype will be built to ensure the resulting design can be implemented in accordance with business needs

Abstract

Batam is known as one of big industrial city in Indonesia. It has many potential, both local and foreign, to support the industrial growth. However, the growth of industry in information and communication technology (ICT) is relatively slow. In 2008, the government stated that Batam is a Digital Island where ICT become the main focus industry. Nevertheless, only a few ICT industries have emerged and survived in current days. This research considered that the local government should implement good strategies as a comprehensive plan for the ICT long term development. In order to create the strategic plan, focus on the local potentials is essential. In this research, there were four potentials to support the development of ICT industry. The aim of this research was to find the top priority of those potentials. Survey was conducted using questionnaire and some interview to hardware industry, software industry, computer distributors, universities, training facilities, and local government institution. Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) was used to find the priority of the potentials. The result indicated that the demand for skilled workers was the top priority among the other potentials. Therefore, this should be considered as the main focus in ICT development plan.
