Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study examines whether tax avoidance, tax risk, and profitability affect the cost of debt of food and beverage manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2020–2024. Novelty: The study integrates tax avoidance, tax risk, and profitability in one panel-data model and focuses on the food and beverage subsector during a period marked by post-pandemic financial adjustment. Research Methods: Secondary data were obtained from annual financial statements. Purposive sampling produced eight companies and 40 firm-year observations. Tax avoidance was proxied by Cash Effective Tax Rate (CETR), tax risk by the standard deviation of CETR, profitability by Return on Assets (ROA), and cost of debt by interest expense relative to total debt. The data were analyzed using panel regression with EViews 13 and a Fixed Effect Model. Finding/Results: Tax avoidance and tax risk do not have significant partial effects on the cost of debt, whereas profitability has a significant effect. The three variables jointly have a significant effect on the cost of debt. Conclusion: Creditors appear to assess financing risk more comprehensively, with profitability providing a stronger individual signal than the two tax-related variables.

Abstract

Introduction/ Main Objectives: The performance measurement of Islamic financial institutions is not sufficient by only using financial indicators because it does not fully reflect the achievement of Sharia objectives. KSPPS, as a cooperative-based financial institution, has a different orientation through member welfare, distribution of economic benefits, and community empowerment. This study aims to analyse the performance of KSPPS using the Modified Maqashid Syariah Index (MSI) adjusted to the characteristics of sharia cooperatives. Novelty: This research develops the adaptation of MSI from the Islamic banking sector to the KSPPS context by adjusting indicators in the three dimensions of maqashid syariah, namely educating individuals, establishing justice, and public interest, using indicators such as member education, SHU distribution, member financing, and social contribution. Research Methods: The research uses a quantitative descriptive approach (index measurement without hypothesis testing) with the object of KSPPS BTM West Sumatra for the 2025 financial year. Data were obtained from the management accountability report, financial statements, and profit-sharing report. Finding/Results: The research results show a Modified MSI value of 42.76% with a sufficient category. The Educating Individuals dimension received a score of 51.25%, Establishing Justice 40%, and Public Interest 37.04%. These results indicate that KSPPS has performed the functions of educating members, distributing economic benefits, and financing members, but the social aspect still needs to be strengthened. Conclusion: Modified MSI can be an alternative measure of KSPPS performance because it can more comprehensively depict economic, social, and sharia aspects. This approach complements financial indicators with the perspective of achieving maqashid shariah goals in Islamic cooperatives.

Abstract

Introduction/ Main Objectives: This study investigates the effects of digital payment, financial literacy, financial access, and mental accounting on the performance of microenterprises in Kuningan Regency, Indonesia. Using the Resource-Based View (RBV) framework, these four factors are conceptualized as technological, financial, and cognitive capabilities that may enhance business outcomes. Novelty: This study lies in integrating digital payment, financial literacy, financial access, and mental accounting into a single empirical model and testing their simultaneous effects on microenterprise performance within the specific context of Kuningan Regency using SEM-PLS. Research Methods: The research employed a quantitative survey method with 277 respondents selected from a population of 901 registered microenterprises, determined using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. Finding/Results: The results show that the research model has adequate explanatory and predictive capabilities. Digital payment, financial literacy, financial access, and mental accounting have positive and significant effects on microenterprise performance. Conclusion: These findings support the Resource-Based View by indicating that technological, financial, and managerial capabilities contribute to improved microenterprise performance. This study contributes to the empirical literature by integrating these four determinants into a single explanatory model and provides practical insights for policymakers and entrepreneurs seeking to enhance the sustainability of microenterprises in local contexts.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of Outstanding Loans, Non-Performing Loans, and Loan Growth on profitability in the Fintech Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending industry in Indonesia. The fintech P2P lending industry in Indonesia has grown rapidly, but profitability performance has shown instability despite increasing loan disbursement, indicating an imbalance between loan growth and credit quality. Novelty: This research offers originality through the use of monthly aggregate data from the Indonesian fintech P2P lending industry, analyzed within both short-term and long-term frameworks using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of financing, credit quality, and profitability. Research Methods: This study employs a quantitative approach using 36 monthly aggregate time-series observations from January 2022 to December 2024, obtained from the Fintech Lending Statistics Report published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The analysis utilizes the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to examine both short-run and long-run relationships among the variables. Finding/Results: The results indicate that in the short run, Outstanding Loans have a negative and significant effect only at lag 3, while Non-Performing Loans and Loan Growth show no significant effects. In the long run, Outstanding Loans and Non-Performing Loans have negative and significant effects on profitability, whereas Loan Growth has a positive but insignificant effect. Conclusion: Profitability depends more on effective loan management and credit quality than on loan growth alone, making sound credit risk management essential for sustainability.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: The increasingly concentrated market structure in Indonesia’s Islamic banking industry following the 2021 merger of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) raises critical questions regarding the relationship between market structure and bank financial stability. Novelty: This study examines market concentration, measured by the Herfindahl–Hirschman Index (HHI), and individual bank market power, measured by the Lerner Index, in relation to the stability of Islamic banking in Indonesia over the 2019–2024 period. Research Methods: Using an unbalanced panel dataset of Islamic banking institutions in Indonesia, this study employs panel regression analysis to examine the relationships between HHI, the Lerner Index, and banking stability, measured by the Z-score. The appropriate panel estimation model is determined through model selection tests. Finding/Results: The results show that market concentration has a positive but statistically insignificant relationship with the Z-score, whereas market power has a negative but statistically insignificant relationship with the Z-score. Thus, neither variable provides statistically significant evidence of an association with Islamic banking stability under the estimated model. Conclusion: The findings provide inconclusive evidence regarding the relationship between market structure and Islamic banking stability in Indonesia. They highlight the importance of distinguishing between industry-level market concentration and bank-level market power, while interpreting the results in light of measurement choices, sample composition, and the limited time variation in market concentration.
