Abstract

Planning for preserving biodiversity and environmental assets in urban areas is crucial in supporting sustainable planning. This study aims to design a strategy for preserving biodiversity and environmental assets in Batu Licin, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, to support sustainable urban planning. The method used is field observation and literature study. The results showed that the Batu Licin area has a relatively high potential for biodiversity and environmental assets. However, along with the growth of the Batu Licin urban area in the future, it will undoubtedly be a source of pressure on biodiversity. Several strategies can be implemented to overcome this, including mainstreaming biodiversity in sectoral planning, strengthening the knowledge base on conservation, management, and use of biodiversity assets, increasing awareness and appreciation for environmental services and biodiversity, implementing area protection and restoration policies for high- value ecosystems and biodiversity assets, and mainstreaming climate change adaptation and mitigation. This strategy can become a reference for policymakers in planning sustainable development in the urban area of Batu Licin and other regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

A city’s problems often arise as the population grows and urbanization happens. This process is linear to the development of information-and-communication technologies (ICT), especially in urban areas. As a result, cities have adopted an initiative to solve the problems which are popularly known as the smart city. Over decades, the idea of a smart city has evolved from a mere technological modernization to advanced utilization through community involvement. However, in practice, smart city ideas and initiatives often put a heavy emphasis on technical aspects and ignored the more human side, which has caused a digital divide. This paper argues that centering the human perspectives in the smart city initiative is essential, and thus proposes an approach and its implementation measures to make an inclusive and smart Nusantara. Using systematic literature review and content analysis, the article attempts to explore human perspectives in smart city discourses as well as to analyze the gaps to do so. The proposed approach then applied in Indonesia's newest capital, which has the ambitious idea of making a smart world class city yet it still lacks attention to significantly address the human dimension in their smart city ecosystem. Therefore, our research suggests three recommended actions: improving equal access to ICT infrastructure, building digital literacy and capacity, and improving data security and protection efforts.

Abstract

Environmental sanitation refers to an environment's health status, including housing, sewage disposal, clean water supply, waste management, and other factors. Sustainable Development Goals 6 (SDG 6) ensures people access proper environmental sanitation. Based on the monitoring and evaluation results of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) in 2022, it was found that 100% of open defecation had been stopped for Pillar 1 of STBM. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the success of implementing Open Defecation Free (ODF) programs in Depok City. There are two stages in this study to determine the priority factors that influence the success of the Implementation of Open Defecation Free in Depok City using the AHP method. The first stage is identifying the factor, which is based on previous literature that has been done, as these factors are considered to have a significant influence and role in the success of program implementation. This study's factors were related to the contextual, psychosocial, and technological aspects, and The second stage involves data collection through a questionnaire distributed to 35 respondents who were analyzed using the AHP method. The results of this study are the main influential factors, such as personal background, knowledge of the importance of community sanitation, and ownership/maintenance of physical products, can lead to the effective implementation of ODF programs. However, it is essential to note that the success of ODF programs may vary depending on the specific context in which they are implemented. Thus a tailored approach may be necessary.
