Abstract

Background: It is estimated that 20.000 Indonesian women die annually due to ob-stetric complication. Bleeding, preeclampsia or eclampsia and infection were found to be the major causes of maternal death. This maternal death can be effectively pre-vented if communities are well informed about emergency signs as well as the provi-sion of qualified health service in primary care. Objectives: This study was conducted to know the relationship between implementa-tion of antenatal service standard done by village midwife and the incidence of ane-mia.Methods: This was an observational study with historical cohort design. Two methods were used: quantitative methods to examine the effect of antenatal service standard implementation on the incidence of anemia. The subjects were interviewed after having antenatal service. Qualitative method was used to confirm the study results by doing focus group discussion in which midwives from primary health care of Purworejo and Kutoarjo involved. The group discussion was focused on the implementation of antena-tal service standard according to Department of Health 2000. Data were analyzed us-ing univariate, bivariate, stratification, and multivariate analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The result showed that pregnant mothers who received non-standard antena-tal service had risk of anemia with OR=3.404 (95% CI: 1.303

Abstract

Background: Since 1994, mosquito control (An. aconitus) in the malaria control pro-gram in Purworejo regency has changed from fenitrothion 1% insecticide to bendiocarb 80% WP. The insecticide residual effect in the fields (IRS: Indoor Residual Spraying) is very affected by weather condition and the types of wall materials i.e. brick, wood and bamboo. Objective: This study was aimed at elucidating the residual effect of bendiocarb insec-ticides on An. acontius mosquitoes sprayed on different surfaces of wall made of brick, wood and bamboo at the dose of 0,2 g/m2.Methods: Bioassays at the three types of wall surfaces were done every other two weeks for 98 days, with the contact duration for 1 hour and holding periods 24 hours. A random complete block design (RCBD) was applied for the trial. Each treatment on the type of wall surface had 2 replicates and into each biossay cone was introduce 20 adult mosquitoes. Mortality was recorded after 24 hours. The residual effect of the insecti-cide was tested by residual effective time >1 50%. Probit analysis were used to deter-mine the significance difference among the RETs.Results and conclussion: It was concluded that residual effective time of bendiocarb 80% WP were longest on the wooden wall surfaces (until 98th days mortality rate was still 100%), followed by brick (RET50 113 days) and bamboo (RET50 104 days)

Abstract

Background: The adolescent's sexual activity tends to be unplanned and unprotected which might results in negative impact such as illegal pregnancy, STD and HIVIAIDS. The high risk of adolescent's STD and HIV/AIDS is the impact of their sexual behaviour and their lack of information or never obtain education and service about sexual and reproduction health. In relationship with this matter, adolescents need to be given sexual health education with an expectation that they wilt not perform unhealthy sexual rela-tionship. PKBI DIY has conducted this activity for high school students through Peer Education in Yogyakarta.Aim: This research was aimed to find out the influence of sexual health education toward knowledge and attitude of teenager in the prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission. It was conducted toward students who obtained sexual health education through Peer Education (as Peer Education) in 11 high schools in Yogyakarta. It was a quasi-experi-mental research with posttest only control group design that seeks for the influence of independent variable that was sexual health education toward dependent variable (knowl-edge and attitude of teenager in the prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission) and qualita-tive study in order to find out the benefit and effectiveness from sexual health educa-tion. Method: Data were gathered with structured questioner and Focus Group Discussion (FGD).Result: The result of t-test showed that sexual health education had significant influ-ence toward the improvement of adolescent's knowledge (p=0,000 or < 0,05) and did not have significant influence toward the attitude of teenager (p=0,165 or > 0,05). Conclusion: Qualitative data that was obtained from FGD showed that Peer Education still not yet optimum, and there is a need of improvement on accurate and actual mate-rials, facilitators quality, education media, school's cooperation, communication tech-nique skill of Peer Educator and Peer Educator activity. Therefore, Peer Education ap-proach could be used as one alternative approach for prevention of HIV/AIDS transmis-sion. Keywords: sexual health education, Peer Education, HIV/AIDS

Methods: This study was a retrospective study with an analytical approach. The sub-jects were 96 mothers at Sinduadi village, who had child or children under 5 years old. Mothers who were using hormonal birth control at the time of the study were excluded. Statistical analysis was done by using Spearman correlation and Kruskal Wallis test. Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, especially in rural areas, many people have opinion that mental disorder are due to evil influence and other unreasonable etiology. Consequently, people with mental disorder are not eager to seek therapy from medical doctor or men-tal hospital, but they prefer to seek therapy from traditional healer, and shaman. Objective: To investigate determinants associated with the delay to bring a mental disorder patient to hospital.Method: This was an observational study with cross sectional design. The study was conducted at Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat hospital, Lawang, Malang for 5 months. The study subjects were members of family who have responsibility of the patient's life, understand with patient's history of the disease, and from low socio-economic. Sub-jects of this study consisted of 70 persons selected by using a consecutive sampling technique. Dependent variable of this study was the delay to bring a mental disorder patient to hospital, while independent variables of this study included perception on mental disorder patient and mental hospital, and handicap effect on patient and their family. Results: Most of the respondents had a good perception about mental disorder (67%). 46% had good perception and 54% had bad perception about mental hospital. Most of them (69%) felt that there was no handicap effect of mental disorder to patient and their family. The proportion of respondents who had been treated by Psychiatrist were about 43%, 28% by general doctor, 20% by kyai, 7% by dukun and 2% by paramedical pro-fessionals. Chi Square analysis showed that the previous effort for curing or seeking therapy was significantly related to delaying of family to bring a mental disorder patient to hospital (p = 0,002). However, relationship with the other variables were not signifi-cant including the perception of respondent about mental disorder (p = 0,909), and perception about mental hospital (p=0,775).Conclusion: Determinant related to the delay of family to bring a mental disorder pa-tient to hospital included the previous effort for curing or seeking therapy. The clinical manifestations included fever about 1-3 days, enanthem, exan-them, vesicle, and ulcer in hands, foot, and nausea. Conclusions: All of the cases can be cured by symptomatic treatment and there is no complication of the disease. It is important for Yogyakarta special province to keep far from the disease by the prevention program. Keywords: HFMD, enterovirus, children
