Abstract

General Background: Arabic is a fundamental language in Islamic scholarship and religious practice, serving as the linguistic medium of the Qur’an and classical Islamic sciences. Specific Background: However, the challenge of learning Arabic among non-native speakers, particularly in informal educational settings such as mosques, remains significant. Knowledge Gap: Few studies have investigated how structured Arabic learning using classical texts operates in community-based environments. Aims: This study explores the learning process, supporting and inhibiting factors of Arabic language instruction using Durusullughoh Al Arobiyyah Lighoiri Nathiqina Biha at the Assalam Puri Mas Mosque, Surabaya. Results: Findings reveal that the program follows a weekly schedule emphasizing practical exercises over theoretical content. Supporting factors include accessible learning materials, conducive facilities, and institutional support, while challenges stem from low learner motivation, scheduling constraints, and lack of formal commitment. Novelty: This research offers empirical evidence of mosque-based Arabic learning dynamics through Durusullughoh as an effective entry-level text for non-native learners. Implications: The study underscores the potential of integrating structured Arabic instruction within mosque environments to promote sustainable Islamic education beyond formal schooling. Highlights: Weekly mosque-based Arabic learning emphasizes practical use. Balanced view of supporting and inhibiting learning factors. Promotes mosque as a sustainable hub for Islamic language education. Keywords: Arabic Learning, Mosque Education, Durusullughoh, Islamic Pedagogy, Language Practice

Abstract

General Background: Mastery of Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) is fundamental in supporting students’ proficiency in understanding, speaking, and writing Arabic, especially within Islamic educational settings. Specific Background: However, conventional teaching methods often fail to engage students, resulting in low motivation and limited vocabulary retention. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have explored card-based learning but have not integrated visual and linguistic elements simultaneously to improve Arabic vocabulary comprehension. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the use of Arabic Scrambled Card Games in improving vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at Al-Fattah Buduran Middle School. Results: Using a pretest-posttest one-group experimental design with 20 participants, the study found a significant mean score increase of 32.12 points (85.37%), confirming the medium’s effectiveness in fostering vocabulary retention and comprehension. Novelty: The innovation lies in adapting Sekata cards into Arabic Scrambled cards that merge Arabic letters and images to form meaningful learning interactions. Implications: This approach enhances students’ active engagement, cognitive retention, and enjoyment in Arabic language learning, making it an effective pedagogical tool for Islamic education. Highlights: Introduces Arabic Scrambled as a novel interactive learning medium. Demonstrates significant vocabulary improvement among middle school students. Promotes engaging, meaningful Arabic learning in Islamic education contexts. Keywords: Arabic Scrambled, Mufradat, Vocabulary Learning, Islamic Education, card Games

Abstract

General Background: Education plays a central role in shaping students’ character and moral responsibility, especially within Islamic-based schools. Specific Background: At SD Muhammadiyah 1 Waru Sidoarjo, Aqidah Akhlak teachers are expected not only to teach religious knowledge but also to cultivate responsibility in students’ learning behavior. Knowledge Gap: However, many students still demonstrate low responsibility, such as incomplete homework and lack of classroom discipline, indicating the need for deeper exploration of teacher strategies in this process. Aims: This study aims to analyze how Aqidah Akhlak teachers develop students’ learning responsibility through various pedagogical approaches. Results: Using a qualitative descriptive method, data from interviews, observations, and documentation reveal that teachers apply modeling, group discussions, and independent assignments effectively, resulting in noticeable improvement in students’ responsibility, discipline, and participation. Novelty: The study emphasizes the integrative application of religious values with character formation through active learning methods. Implications: The findings suggest that moral education embedded in Aqidah Akhlak subjects can strengthen students’ academic responsibility and personal ethics when consistently applied in the learning environment. Highlights: Aqidah Akhlak teachers act as moral role models in learning. Integrative methods effectively shape students’ responsibility. Religious-based character education supports academic discipline. Keywords: Aqidah Akhlak, Teacher Role, Learning Responsibility, Character Education, Elementary Students

Abstract

General Background: Structural femicide persists globally as a form of gender-based violence embedded within patriarchal sociocultural and religious systems. Specific Background: In Muslim-majority societies, distorted interpretations of Qur’anic teachings often legitimize violence against women, a dynamic vividly portrayed in the Malaysian series Bida’ah. Knowledge Gap: Existing studies rarely integrate Qur’anic thematic exegesis with media analysis to reveal how religious narratives are misused to reinforce systemic oppression. Aims: This study investigates the conceptual foundations of structural femicide, analyzes its narrative representation in Bida’ah, and reinterprets Qur’anic verses emphasizing justice and the sanctity of life. Results: Findings indicate that Bida’ah reflects multilayered violence—physical, symbolic, and institutional—sustained through patriarchal power and manipulated religious authority. The Qur’an, however, does not justify such violence; rather, it promotes protection, equality, and moral justice. Novelty: The study offers an integrated framework combining thematic Qur’anic interpretation and social hermeneutics with cinematic analysis to expose the ideological mechanisms underlying structural femicide. Implications: These insights highlight the urgency of contextual, justice-centered Qur’anic interpretation to dismantle patriarchal norms and to strengthen discourses countering gender-based violence. Highlights: Shows how distorted Qur’anic interpretations legitimize structural violence against women. Uses the Bida’ah series to illustrate multilayered femicide: physical, symbolic, and institutional. Emphasizes contextual, justice-oriented exegesis to dismantle patriarchal religious narratives. Keywords: Structural Femicide, Qur’anic Interpretation, Gender Based Violence, Patriarchal Power, Bida’ah Series
