Abstract

The number of person with eating disorders is increasing almost all over the world. Theexact cause of an eating disorder is difficult to determine. The feeling of shame caused by negativejudgments on one’s body has a positive correlation to the emergence of pathological eatingbehavior. Furthermore, the position of body shame as a variable in research on eatingdisorders is still inconsistent in some studies, consequently, it is placed as a mediatingvariable to self-objectification. This study attempted to see whether there is a directcorrelation between body shame and eating disorders using meta-analysis procedure. Theanalysis of sampling error and measurement error made on 34 studies from 21 articles. Theresult of the analysis showed that body shame and eating disorder are strongly correlated(r=0.547) with α = 0.05.

Abstract

In a psychological experiment, the manipulation of the independent variable is deliberatelyintroduced to observe its effects on the dependent variable. The cause-effect relationshipthen is inferred. This article explained briefly two models of causal inferences. One modeldeveloped by Donald Campbell is more focused on design elements in ruling out threats tovalidity. On the other hand, Rubin’s model of causal inference emphasized in mathematicalprecision of the causal effects. The comparison of the two different but complementarymodels involves both randomized experiment and observational study.

Abstract

Studies on happiness are becoming popular. The present instruments, measuring happinessare mostly adapted from the Western perspective. Meanwhile, there are differences in themeaning of happiness in the context of Western culture (individualist) and Eastern culture(collectivist). An instrument measuring happiness that uses the perspective of Indonesiansociety has been developed. However, this scale is more likely measuring the cause ofhappiness, not happiness itself. The concept of happiness is still not clearly defined in the instrument. An in-depth study is needed to explore aspects of Javanese happiness as abasic reference for the development of the happiness scale. This paper has described theconcept of happiness according to Ki Ageng Suryamentaram and the difference with theWestern concept. Therefore, this article gives advice on developing a happiness scale that isaccurate by exploring the construct of happiness in the Java community

Abstract

The purpose of this article to find out which variables are the causes and effects of substance abuse and internet addiction through conceptual studies. Internet addiction and substance abuse are known to have a correlation. But this becomes overlapping, which is the cause and the result. The results of this conceptual study explain that adolescents who experience substance abuse will tend to be the cause of increased prevalent internet addiction because the use of addictive substances will determine how fast internet addiction develops. Conversely, adolescents who experience Internet addiction is not necessarily the cause of the emergence of substance abuse. It can be concluded that substance abuse is the cause of high levels of internet addiction in adolescents, likewise, the internet addiction has the potential to cause substance abuse

Abstract

Aggression brings adverse effects on individuals and the environment and often developsinto social problems. This meta-analysis study aimed to find out the correlation between self-control and aggression. The used samples based on 18 primary studies from 10 onlinejournals published in 2002 - 2017 which is found by searching on online database journal viawww.lib.ugm.ac.id. Two artifacts allowed for correction in this study are sampling errorand measurement error. The results of the analysis provided support for the hypothesis thatself-control had a negative correlation to aggression, therefore self-control inhibits the emerge of aggressive behavior.
