Abstract

Oil palm plants are currently experiencing rapid growth and have promising commercial opportunities in the future, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality of palm oil seedlings for cultivation to achieve high productivity. Fertilization during the early seedling stage of oil palm using raw materials from fish waste can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. Perlakuan terdiri dari G0 (Biofertilizer asam amino ikan 0 mL/L disiram air), G1 (Biofertilizer asam amino ikan 10 mL/L), G2 (Biofertilizer asam amino ikan 30 mL/L), G3 (Biofertilizer asam amino ikan 50 mL/L), G4 (Biofertilizer asam amino ikan 70 mL/L). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan sidik ragam. If the treatment has a significant effect, a further DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test) test will be conducted at the 5% level. The research results show that the G4 treatment with a fish amino acid biofertilizer concentration of mL/L is the best treatment concentration in improving plant height parameters of 26.35 cm, leaf length of 18.09 cm, stem diameter of 5.47 mm, leaf chlorophyll of 45.36 SPAD, and plant dry weight of 1.63 g.

Abstract

Efforts to improve the quality of peat soil to become a more productive medium can be done by providing banana stem compost because it contains macro nutrients that are very much needed by plants. This study aims to determine the role of banana stem compost in peat media to increase the growth of robusta coffee seedlings. This study was conducted at the experimental garden on Jalan Rangga Sentap II, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, from March to June 2024. This study used a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatment levels and 4 replications so that there were 24 experimental units, where each replication consisted of 3 plants so that 72 samples were obtained. The treatments were P0: Without banana stem compost, P1: 650 g polybag-1, P2 :700 g polybag-1, P3: 750 g polybag-1, P4: 800 g polybag-1, P5: 850 g polybag-1. Observation parameters included seedling height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root length, and dry weight of seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Data showing a significant effect were further analysed using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level. The application of banana stem compost to peat-based growing media had a significant effect on the growth of Robusta coffee seedlings. A dose of 850 g polybag-1 of banana stem compost per polybag was found to be the most effective dose for enhancing the growth of Robusta coffee seedlings in peat-based growing media.

Abstract

Coffee seeds often undergo dormancy, which hinders the germination process. The use of natural plant growth regulators (PGRs) such as a mixture of young coconut water and red onion extract can be an alternative to break dormancy, as the ingredients are easily obtained, safe, and environmentally friendly. This study aims to determine the optimal concentration of the GHR mixture that can replace the use of H₂SO₄ on Robusta coffee seeds. The research was conducted at the Experimental Farm on Jl. Gusti Mesir, Medan Jaya Village, Kayong Utara, from January to April 2025, using a completely randomized design with six treatments and three replications, each with 25 seeds per replication. The treatments consisted of 20% H₂SO₄ (control), PGRs mixtures at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Parameters observed were germination percentage, germination rate, vigor index, and dormancy intensity. Data analysis used analysis of variance and BNT test at the 5% level. The results showed that the 100% PGRs mixture could replace H₂SO₄ in breaking seed dormancy especially robusta coffee seed.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of liquid organic fertilizer derived from moringa leaves on the growth of rubber seedlings (Hevea brasiliensis) grown in Ultisol (Red Yellow Podzolic) soil. The research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of Ketapang State Polytechnic from March to July 2024 using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design with five treatment levels and four replications. The observed parameters included seedling height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root volume, and dry weight of seedlings. The results showed that the application of moringa leaf liquid organic fertilizer improved the growth of rubber seedlings across all observed parameters. The concentration of 500 mL/L produced the best results, with an average seedling height of 59.89 cm, stem diameter of 4.48 mm, number of leaves of 2.44, root volume of 7 mL, and dry weight of 9.40 g. This improvement is presumably due to the presence of essential nutrients and growth hormones in moringa leaves, which enhance soil properties and support plant physiological processes. Therefore, moringa leaf liquid organic fertilizer has the potential to be used as an alternative fertilization method to improve the quality of rubber seedlings in Ultisol soils.

Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is a highly strategic plantation product because it can increase farmers' incomes, create jobs, drive agro-industrial growth, and serve as a non-oil and gas foreign exchange source for Indonesia. This study aims to determine the effect of providing the lowest composition of planting media that produces vegetative growth of cacao seedlings (Theobroma cacao L.) equivalent to the control. This experiment was conducted on experimental land in Sukaharja Village, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, from March to June 2025. The design used is a completely randomized design consisting of five replications and four treatments of planting media composition, namely K0: PMK soil: rice husk charcoal + vermicompost (1:1 + 300 g), K1: PMK soil: rice husk charcoal + vermicompost (1:1 + 200 g), K2: PMK soil: rice husk charcoal + vermicompost (2:1 + 300 g), and K3: PMK soil: rice husk charcoal + vermicompost (2:1 + 200 g). The observation parameters are seedling height, stem diameter, leaf count, seedling dry weight, and chemical properties influenced by the composition of the planting media. The growing media composition of PMK soil: rice husk charcoal + vermicompost (1:1 + 200 g) showed the lowest composition, resulting in growth similar to the control treatment.

Abstract

Sembung rambat typically grows dominantly in immature oil palm plantations, often to the point of twining around or smothering the cultivated crops. Bioherbicides are increasingly being developed as alternatives to chemical herbicides, which are known to have negative environmental impacts. Blending bioherbicide extracts results in a higher concentration of allelochemical compounds, thereby enhancing weed control effectiveness. Kirinyuh and babandotan are plants with potential for use in such extract blends. This study aimed to determine whether a mixture of babandotan and kirinyuh extracts could kill sembung rambat weeds. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, comprising five treatments (0%, 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, and 50%) with four replications, resulting in 20 experimental units; each unit contained four samples, making a total of 80 sembung rambat weed samples. Observed parameters included time to death, mortality percentage, fresh weight, dry weight, and qualitative bioherbicide analysis. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). If significant effects were found, Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was conducted at the 5% significance level. The analysis of variance results indicated that the application of the babandotan and kirinyuh extract mixture had a significant effect on the time to death, mortality percentage, fresh weight, and dry weight of sembung rambat weeds. Based on the DMRT results, the 50% concentration of the babandotan and kirinyuh extract mixture was the most effective at increasing sembung rambat weed mortality.
