Abstract

This study aims to study soil fertility status, determine land suitability status and provide recommendations for land suitability for cocoa cultivation based on land suitability evaluation in 6 (six) villages in North Manokwari District based on its slopes. The 6 (six) villages in the research location such as Pami, Mandopi, Sairo, Bremi, Yoom, and Lebau. The study lasted for approximately three (3) months, from March to May 2019. The results showed that the soil fertility status at the study site on a slope of 0-8% (SPT 1) was classified as moderately fertile. The slope of 8-15% (SPT 2) and the slope of 15-25% (SPT 3) were quite fertile. The land suitability status for SPT1 land was actually categorized as marginal (S3), but it can be upgraded to a potential land suitability class of S2 with some improvements. SPT 2 land is actually categorized as marginal (S3) and quite suitable (S2), which can be increased to potential land suitability classes S2 and S1. SPT 3 land is actually categorized according to marginal (S3) and quite suitable (S2), but can be increased to potential land suitability classes S2 and S1. Recommended land potential for cocoa plant development are on SPT 2 land with a slope of 8-15%, namely in Lebau Village, Yoom, Mandopi; and SPT 3 with a slope of 15-25%, namely Lebau, Sairo, Pami.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the apropriate dose of Papua Nutrient Granule fertilizer on the growth and production of kangkong (Ipomea reptans poir). The research was carried out at the screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Papua, Manokwari for 2 months from July to August 2019. The study was a single factor experiment using a Randomized Block Design. The treatment dose of Papua Nutrient Granule fertilizer consisted of control/Papua Nutrient Fertilizer 0 tons/ha), Papua Nutrient Fertilizer 5 tons/ha, Papua Nutrient Fertilizer 10 tons/ha), Papua Nutrient Fertilizer 15 tons/ha), Papua nutrient fertilizer 20 tons/ha. The results showed that the application of Papua Nutrient significantly affected the growth and yield of kangkong at all ages of observation. Papua Nutrient granule fertilizer with doses of 15 and 20 tons/ha produced height, rate of plant height, number of leaves and leaf growth rate, fresh stover weight and fresh root weight per plant better than other fertilization treatments and control.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the physical properties and soil pH in the Anggori experimental garden belonging to the University of Papua. The Anggori experimental garden is one of the Unipa experimental gardens which has great potential as a means of supporting lecturers and students across faculties. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the color of the soil at the research site on the top and bottom layers tended to have the same color, which was dominated by dark brown and dark yellowish brown. The soil texture ranged from sandy loam, loamy loam, silty loam and clay loam, with soil structure which is granular, rounded lumps, and angular lumps, with medium to fine size, as well as moderate to weak stability. The consistency of the soil were rather sticky, loose, and weak. There were rocks on the surface and rock outcrops <25%, with good drainage. Effective depth of soil was >40 cm and soil acidity (pH) was classified as slightly acidic to neutral.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of sweetness of sugarcane growing in the village of Wariori Indah. This research was conducted in Wariori Indah village, Masni district, Manokwari regency in August 2020. The method used in this study was a descriptive method with field observation techniques. There were 5 types of sugarcane grown by the people of Wariori Indah Village, namely Red Sugar Cane (Meresa Ekeni), Yellow Green Sugar Cane (Meresa Ofrha), Yellow Sugar Cane (Meresa Oruk), White Striped Red Cane (Meresa Epsi), and Green Stripes Red Cane (Meresa Ofrha). The results of the study found that there were differences in the level of sweetness in the sugarcane plants observed. Yellow green sugarcane has a high level of sweetness (15.2), followed by yellow sugar cane (14.0), and red sugar cane (13.3), while white stripes red cane and green stripes red cane stripes having the same level of sweetness, namely 12.3.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to determine the inhibition of Terminalia catappa leaf extract on the growth of grinting grass weed (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) as well as determine at what concentration it could inhibit growth of grinting grass weed. The research method used in this study is an experimental method with observation techniques. The results of this study found that Terminalia catappa leaf extract can inhibit the growth of grinting grass weed (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.). Furthermore, 20% of Terminalia catappa leaf extract was the most effective concentration in inhibiting grinting grass weed. Therefore, it can be used as an alternative to organic herbicides.

Abstract

Corn are one of the leading food crop commodities. Corn, like plants in general, requires nutrients that are absorbed from the soil. One of the potentials of reliable organic fertilizers to support the Go Organic program is the utilization of liquid organic phosphate fertilizer "Papua Nutrient". This liquid organic fertilizer is product innovation of raw materials derived from West Papua's natural resources in the form of krandalit phosphate deposit soil. This study was conducted at the Amban Pantai Experiment Garden owned by the University of Papua, statistically designed using a completely randomized design. The combination of Papua Nutrient fertilizer and cultivated system resulted in total 10 treatments which were then repeated 4 times so that 40 experimental units were obtained. Observations were made on variable of growth and plant yield such as plant height, number of leaves, flowering time, length of panicles, and fresh weight of cobs. The combination of spraying treatment of liquid organic fertilizer Papua Nutrient with cultivation system performed a different influence on the growth and yield of corn crops. Corn crops that are treated with liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 10 cc/L of water in intercropping system performed the best results on the high parameters of the plant (4-6 weeks after planting) and the parameters of fresh weight of the cob.
