Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the fair value of financial assets on information content of bank future earnings after the mandatory adoption of Indonesia Financial Accounting Standards No. 50 55 (or Pernyataan Standar Akuntansi Keuangan 50 55, Revised 2006) on the Financial Instruments: recognition, measurement, and presentation. The financial assets analysed in this study are the fair value measured assets, namely profit or loss, available for sale, held to maturity, and loans and receivables. This study uses 138 publicly listed bank year samples for 2006-2012 periods. Using panel data analysis, the results show that the information content of banks future earnings has increased after the mandatory adoption of PSAK 50 55, but the use of the fair value of financial assets has reduced the information content of banks future earnings. The financial asset that is classified as available for sale may contribute to this reduction of information content of banks future earnings.

Abstract

Due to the limitations of accounting textbooks, students do not realize a broader potential of accounting can make to society outside a scorekeeping practice ascribing priority to shareholders. The purpose of this study is to explore how students in Indonesia use the recommended introductory financial accounting (IFA) textbook to understand whether they use it in a way that allows a more nuanced, contextual and broad-based understanding of accounting. Drawing on the results of four focus groups conducted with students who represent four accounting degrees of Indonesian universities, the study reveals that students are strongly attached to the recommended textbook. It seemed they could not get away from having to use the text if they were to succeed in the course. Therefore, the intellectual source of these students was solely the neoclassical economic paradigm, the primary emphasis of which is satisfying the materialist desires of shareholders. This was evident in the perspectives of both students of conventional and Islamic accounting programs.

Abstract

The study examined the moderating effect of institutional ownership on relationship between audit tenure, audit independence, board independence and audit quality of listed deposit money banks (LDMBs) in Nigeria. The study population comprises 14 LDMBs on the Nigerian Stock Exchange as at 31st December, 2020. 13 LDMBs were used as sample of the study. Logit regression technique was used as a tool of data analysis. Findings of the study revealed that, in the direct relationship, audit independence, board independence and institutional ownership have significant effect on the audit quality of LDMBs in Nigeria. The finding of the moderated model of the study reveals that institutional ownership has a significant negative moderating role on the relationship between audit tenure, audit independence, board independence and audit quality of LDMBs. It is therefore recommended among others that listed deposit money banks in Nigeria should ensure that they consider long-term institutional shareholding since those with a long-term stake have the motivation to monitor management and thereby, requesting a better audit quality through BIG4 auditors.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of GONE theory’s variables on the procurement fraud of government goods/services by using variables of leadership idealism as a moderating variable. This study uses question instruments for each variable: Greed, Opportunity, Need, and Exposes from Bologne (1993), Leadership Idealism from Tappen (1994) and Procurement Fraud of Government Goods/Services. This study collects primary data gathered from the respondent’s perception in Kebumen District Government agencies. The analysis technique used is Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results of this study demonstrate that the existence of Exposes (low penalty level) and lack of leadership idealism will increase the potential procurement fraud of goods/services in government. In other words without the punishment that can provide a deterrent effect and less idealistic leadership will be more and more potential individuals within the bureaucracy associated in the procurement process of goods/services to conduct fraud.

Abstract

This paper aims to observe the impact of climate change disclosure (CCD) towards corporate financial performance (CFP) proxied by returns on assets (ROA), return on sales (ROS), and sales growth. Linear and non-linear approaches are employed for this research. Recommendation from Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) are applied for content analysis to obtain CCD scores. The target population in this study is 45 best performing companies (LQ45) listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) that disclosed sustainability report from 2014 to 2018. The number of observations is 72 year-companies. The findings show that CCD in large companies decreases ROS and improves ROA, yet in general, the improvement occurs in the long term for ROA and sales growth after a certain level is met (U-curve). In general, providing climate-related information will eventually pay. Financial improvement of the companies has increased despite of low quality of CCD and an indication of positive customer reaction to CCD is noticeable.
