Abstract

In this study, the effect of solution viscosity on the linear optical properties of the orcein was studied. For this purpose, different concentrations of the orcein solution were prepared in the ethanol solvent (1x10-3, 1x10-4, 1x10-5) Ml. After measuring the absorption and florescence spectra of three concentrations, the linear optical properties were identified. The results showing increasing absorption coefficient and refractive index with concentration increase. From florescence spectra, the life time of florescence energy level is increasing with concentration increase, and quantum yield decreasing with concentration increase. By varying the viscosity of the orcein solution -(1x10-3, 1x10-4, 1x10-5)Ml- by adding (2)ml of the glycerin, the absorption and florescence spectra of three concentrations with glycerin were measured and the linear optical properties were identified. The results showing increasing absorption coefficient and refractive index of each concentration after adding glycerin, except the absorption coefficient of (1x10-3Ml) concentration. While there was a decrease in life time quantum yield of florescence energy level of each concentration after adding glycerin, except the absorption coefficient of (1x10-3Ml) concentration.Keywords: Orcein, Absorption and Fluorescence spectra, Linear optical properties, Viscosity effect.

Abstract

A series of three and four member rings N-substituted Phenobarbital have been synthesized. The nitrogen atoms have been alkylated first to form N-carboxymethyl followed by cyclization reaction to form three and four heterocyclic rings. Abstract

One of the most common genital infections among women in the childbearing age is Bacterial vaginosis (BV). Many novel, fastidious and uncultivated bacterial species are related with BV. These are called bacterial vaginosis associated bacteria (BVAB), present in trace amount and have a significant role in the infection. A total of 300 high vaginal swabs were obtained from 150 non-pregnant women with bacterial vaginosis depending on Amsel criteria. Two swabs where taken for each patient, 150 of these swabs were cultivated on selective media, Bacteroides Bile Esculin agar and the remaining samples were used for direct DNA detection. Samples were collected from a patient who’s admitted to the out-patient clinics of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Babylon Maternity and Pediatrics teaching hospital Hospital, and Al-Hillah General Teaching Hospital. Cultivated swabs were gave 31(21%) positive results for Gram negative, anaerobic Bacteroides fragilis.  Specific primers used for detection and study  two of virulence factors .The direct molecular detection revealed 39 (26 %)  of sample positive for detection by nan H  gene where gave band with a molecular weight of (842 bp) and all of these samples where revealed 39 (100 %) positive result for enterotoxin gene and 35 (89.7%) of them gave positive result for phospholipase gene, by produced  (367 bp) PCR prodcut    for amplification of enterotoxin gene and (400 bp) PCR product for amplification of phospholipase gene. Sequencing of enter toxin and phospholipase genes gave similar identity in percentages (100 and 99) respectively with the standard strains in NCBI web site.Keywords: Bacterial vaginosis, Selective media, Molecular detection, PCR-technique, Sequencing.

Abstract

Pots experiment was conducted in a nursery affiliated to the Al-Qasim town during the spring season of (2016 - 17). The aim of the experiment was to find the effect chelated nano iron and zinc fertilizer(seven concentration) in two application methods: foliar applied  (0 ,1Fe, 2Fe,1Zn, 2Zn, 1Fe +1Zn, 2Fe+2Zn) g.L-1 and fertigation was included (0 ,80Fe, 160Fe,80Zn, 160Zn, 80Fe +80Zn, 160Fe +160Zn) mg.L-1 and organic fertilizer Drin (0.0 , 5) ml.L-1 and their interactions on  growth parameter, and the production of active substances as well as  mineral and organic content of the leaves and some anatomical features of Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.BR. The experiment was designed in a randomized complete blocks (RCBD), in a Factorial arrangement (7*2*2) with three replications. The Least Significant Difference (LSD) at 0.05 probability level was used to compare treatments means, whenever treatment effects were evident. The nano iron and zinc fertilizer and the methods application (first treatment), as well as organic fertilizer Drin, were applied at (6- 8 fully expanded leaves) stage. While the second application of nano fertilizer and organic fertilizer was after three month from the first treatment. The results showed that the use of doubled recommended of nano-iron was recorded the highest leaf area. Doubled concentrations for nano zinc was recorded the highest stem diameter and cortex thickness.Foliar application of nano fertilizer had given highest stem diameter, leaf area, the vessel diameter in the vascular bundles of stem.  Foliar application of organic fertilizer (5ml. L-1) increased all parameters studied except leaf area and cortex thickness, while the negative impaction on the vessel diameter in the vascular bundles of the stem. The interaction between nano fertilizer and application method by combinations significant increased all parameters studied. The interaction between nano fertilizers and organic fertilizer increased all parameters studied. The Interaction between application method and organic fertilizer showed did not reveal a significant difference in all parameters studied except leaf area. And interaction between study factors revealed a significant improvement of the C. procera plant in all parameter studied.Keywords: Nano iron and Zinc, Application method, Calotropis procera.

Abstract

Tröger base polymer (DM-TB) was synthesised based 4,4`-diamino-3,3`-dimethylphenylmethane (DM) via condensation polymerization for diamine monomer with dimethoxymethane in trifluoroacetic acid at room temperature. The polymerization afforded a high ratio product and white polymer with a good thermal stability.Keywords: Tröger Base Polymer; Physical and Rheological Properties.

Abstract

Heavy metal complexes of Pd (II), Pt(IV) and Au (III) with new ligands of mannich base S-(1-(benzothiazole-2-ylamino)methyl]-H-benzimidazole-2-yl]4-nitrobenzothioate as (L1), S-(1-((pyra- zine-2-carboxamido)methyl)-1-H-benzoimidaz-ole-2-yl)4-nitrobenzothioate as (L2) & S-(1-Morph- olinomethyl)-1-benzoimidazol-2-yl) 4-nitrobenzothioate as (L3) have been prepared and characterized in solid state, their most probable structure were established through a combination of different spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as: elemental analysis C.H.N.S, flame atomic absorption (A.A), FT-IR, UV–vis spectrophotometry, 1H13CNMR, as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The ratio of M:L and stability constant was determined by using molar ratio method in solution state. From the spectral studies, an octahedral geometry of PtL1, PtL2, AuL2, PtL3, PdL3 & AuL3 complexes, while PdL1, AuL1 & PdL2 have square planner geometry.  Cytotoxic effect of prepare ligands and their novel complexes were evaluated against RAW 264.7 cell line by using four different concentrations (400, 200, 100 & 50µg/ml) in exposure time 48 hrs. and compared this effect with control positive Cis-Pt.Keywords: Mannich base, Benzimidazole, Analytical techniques, Cytotoxic, Exposure time.

Abstract

Background: Cryptococcus neoformans, the causative agent of cryptococcosis, is a common encapsulated fungus that can cause a scope of sicknesses. Inhalation of organisms is the standard course of the disease that may stay spread to the lungs or experience hematogenous disseminations and reach to any organ through the body. Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the pulmonary Cryptococcosis in a specimen of immune compromised patients by utilizing traditional and molecular strategies.  Methods: This study included a total of two hundred (n=200) clinical samples from 100 immuno compromised patients and control group included 100 samples from immune competent individuals were enrolled in this study during the period from the January2015 to February 2016. Result: Among those 100 immune compromised patients 43 (43%) were males and 57 (57%) were  females , their mean ages was 54.56 ±16.46 years which ranged from 16 to 90 years, compared with 100 samples from apparently healthy individuals used as a control group. Out of 20 patients were PCR positive for pulmonary Cryptococcus’s 12(60%) were females and 8 (40%) were males. Five (5%) samples out of 100 immuno compromised patients were nigrosine stain positive; Three out of 100 samples were culture positive for C. neoformans. Conclusion: diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary cryptococcosis are as yet difficult. In any case, with early diagnosis and appropriate management, most non-AIDS patients with pulmonary cryptococcosis have a good prognosisKeywords: Pulmonary cryptococcosis, Cryptococcus neoformans, Bronichoalveolar lavage (BAL), Pleural effusion (PE), Nigrosin stain.

Abstract

Objective:  to evaluate the association between the dihydrotestosterone hormone level and the level of sulfotransferase 1A1 enzyme inside the scalp hair follicle in patients with androgenic alopecia. Method: The study was conducted with the participation of 67 androgenic alopecia patients (37 females and 30 males). The level of serum dihydrotestosterone hormone was estimated using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The sulfotransferase enzyme 1A1 was extracted from the plugged scalp hair follicle by sonication and estimated using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: In this study, it was found that there is a significant association between the level of serum dihydrotestosterone hormone and the level of sulfotransferase 1A1 enzyme inside the scalp hair follicle in patients of androgenic alopecia ( p-value< 0.001), which means that whenever the level of serum dihydrotestosterone hormone increases, the concentration of the sulfotransferase 1A1 enzyme inside the scalp hair follicle decreases, and probably it will affect the response of a patient toward the minoxidil. Conclusion:  reducing the level of serum dihydrotestosterone hormone, could increase the level of sulfotransferase 1A1 enzyme inside the scalp hair follicle and that concept can lead to modulate the treatment regimen of androgenic alopecia.

Abstract

The free radical scavenging actions were studied using DPP Has stable free radical compound in this paper. Consequences revealed that the increasing in extract concentration the more scavenging free radicals percent. The ranged concentrations (26.2 to 1000µg/ml) that were used, nevertheless the Ascorbic acid extract of S. officinal’s significantly displayed the highest antioxidant activity (86% at 1000µg/ml) among Methanol, Ethyl acetate and hexane extracts which were 84.5.1% , 56% and 54% respectively at 1000µg/ml. This work also aimed to study the cytotoxic and anticancer effects of Salvia officinal’s Leaves extract on some cell lines, The most significant reduction in viable count cell was 400 µ/ml which related to ascorbic acid extracts  appeared to cause the induction of cell lose  spatially in the cell lines A549, HepG2, MCF-7 respectively.Keywords: Salvia officinal’s, Cancer cell lines, DPPH, Cytotoxicity.

Abstract

This study was conducted at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Al-Kufa University, Al-Kufa City / Najaf- Iraq. The fauna of insects associated with rabbit carcasses(Lepus cuniculus) placed indoor and outdoor habitats, and their succession patterns were investigated. A total of 1589 adults and immature insects were collected during summer and autumn, 2016, representing in 3 orders and 7 families. Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera comprise79.11%, 12.21% and8.68% .A total of 630 insect specimens was collected from rabbit carcasses placed indoor. Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera comprised 80.2%, 11.7% and 8.1%, respectively. While, 959 insect specimens were collected from rabbit carcasses placed outdoor .Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera comprised 78.4%, 12.5% and 9.1%, respectively. Four stages of decomposition were observed fresh, bloated, decay and dry. The duration of it varies with temperature and relative humidity of each season. The total period of decomposition was 15 and 19  days during Summer in carcasses placed outdoor and indoor respectively (Mean temperature 40 ○C and RH between  10% and  20%)  ,while reaching 18 and 25 days during  Autumn in  carcasses placed outdoor and indoor respectively, (mean temperature 29○C  and RH between 54% to 64% ).The results showed that the succession pattern of insect associated with the stages of decomposition was similar between indoor and outdoor habitats with differences in the timing of insect colonization were observed  between the two  habitats  within trials for Summer and Autumn .Also, Chrysomya albiceps was the  first insect attracting to the carcass during the fresh stage in both habitats and it was the most abundant fly colonized  the carcasses in both habitats but most number at outdoor, followed by Musca domestica. In general, it was appeared that the numbers of forensic insect species which colonize rabbit carcasses were increased outdoor and decreased indoor. Moreover, they were higher numbers during the autumn season than the summer season.Keywords: Outdoor; Indoor; Succession; Rabbit; Carcass; Al-Kufa.
