Abstract

Objective to evaluate Oecophylla smaragdina (OS) for antitumor activity against Dalton's Lymphoma Ascites (DLA) cells in Swiss mice. Materials and Methods Oecophylla smaragdina (OS)was successively extracted with ethanol for three times  and the treatment was started after 24 hours of the tumor inoculation continued once daily for 14 days and the antitumor efficacy of ant extract of Oecophylla smaragdina was compared with that of 5-Fluorouracil(10 mg/kg, i.p) and DLA control. After 14 days the mice was sacrificed and dissected for observation of antitumor activity. Results Oecophylla smaragdina extract treated group showed decrease in packed cell volume, viable cell count. The all the parameters were showed in normal levels. Conclusion the findings and indicate the ant extract to promote and preventing the tumor cells and also it is evident that these extract have natural anticancer effect. Keywords: Oecophylla smaragdina, Antitumor, Dalton’s lymphoma ascites.

Abstract

The study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of ethanolic extract of whole plant of Pupalia lappacea. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging, Nitric Oxide Scavenging and Iron chelating activity with reference standard Rutin, Ascorbic acid and EDTA respectively content was estimated.  Our results indicate that ethanolic extract of Pupalia lappacea has IC50 value of 510 μg/ml, 410 μg/ml, 310 μg/ml of DPPH, nitric oxide, and iron chelating activity respectively. So, the in-vitro studies clearly showed that the ethanolic extract of Pupalia lappacea has a significant antioxidant activity. These in-vitro assays wise that this plant extract is the best root of natural antioxidant; these are very supportive in the progress of preventing different types of oxidative stresses. Keywords: Pupalia lappacea, DPPH assay, Nitric oxide radical scavenging, Iron chelating activity.

Abstract

The use of microbes as functional food maintain health and prevent many disease and disorder. The isolation and research of new strains of probiotic strains especially lactobacilli proven to be useful to satisfy the increasing demand of the population. In the current study, the probiotic potential of Lactobacillus strains isolated from sheep milk was investigated. The Lactobacillus strains were identified and evaluated for tolerance against gastric acidity and bile toxicity, along with the adhesion to HT-29 cells. The study proved the antimicrobial activities and antibiotic susceptibility. Survival of the strains through the host intestine was examined by the 12 week Wister rat feeding and faecal analysis trial. The in-vivo trials not only proved the adhesion but also the survival of the Lactobacillus plantarum MCC 3595 inside the intestinal lumen of the host. Thus, the isolated strain can act as the functional food by the further clinical investigation.

Abstract

Calotropis gigantea, Akda, belonging to family Asclepidaceae, is a medicinal plant distributed widely throughout the India. In our previous study, chloroform extract of Calotropis gigantean showed potent anti-diabetic activity. Hence our main aim is to isolate the active compounds present in chloroform extract which might be responsible for anti-diabetic activity. Bioactivity guided isolation was performed to isolate the active compounds. Three phytoconstituents,  β-sitosterol, Stigmasterol and α- amyrene have been isolated from the flowers of Calotropis gigantea. The structures of these phytoconstituents have been established by spectroscopic methods. Keywords: Calotropis gigantea, β-sitosterol, Asclepidaceae, chloroform extract, anti-diabetic activity.

Abstract

Objective: .Bauhinia racemosa, Bauhinia tomentosa and Bauhinia vahlii are the most important indigenous plants of Odisha. Traditionally, these plants are used in wound healing, skin abrasions, pimples, blister and boils. To validate the folkloric claims of these plants, methanolic extracts of these plants were evaluated by incision and excision wound models. Methods: The experimental animals were divided into five groups of six for each model. The animals in test group were treated with the test extracts of these three plants topically in the form of ointment and reference standard, Povidone Iodine was applied on the incised wound of animals of standard group. Healing measured by the rate of wound contraction, complete epithelialization, and granulation of tissue. On day 14, BV, BR and BT were recorded as 250, 210 and 125 g/cm2 respectively as compared to the control, whereas, Povidone iodine showed the tensile strength of 230g/cm2. Results: Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence of phenolics, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The rapid wound contraction and decreased rate of epithelialization time suggest that these plant extracts extract may have better wound healing potentials.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop a simple, sensitive, precise, and rapid LC-MS/MS method for quantitative determination of anti-hypertensive drug Riociguat in its formulation using electrospray ionization in positive mode. Method: In this method, a zorbax (50mm x 4.6mm x 5µm) column with mobile phase 0.1% Formic acid: Acetonitrile (15:85, v/v) was used in the flow rate of 0.5mL/min. Results: The linearity range of Riociguat ranged from 10 to 110 ng/mL with the correlation coefficient of 0.9994. The method was validated as per the ICH guidelines. The limit of detection and quantification was found to be 3.5ng/mL and 10ng/mL, respectively. The recoveries of Riociguat at different concentration levels were found to be in the range of 97.34 % to 99.76 %. Conclusion: The proposed method was found to be simple, fast, accurate, and precise and can be applied for routine quality control analysis of Riociguat in formulations. The method proved to be selective, specific, sufficiently sensitivity, highly reproducible and robust for the analysis of formulation in Riociguat. Keywords: Formulation, Riociguat, LC-MS/MS, Validation.
