Abstract

Onium technique used as sensitive method for extraction and determination Fe(III) by using paracetamol drug so determination this drug by using Fe(III) within a study for determination the optimum conditions appear onium species formed wave length for maximum absorbance is equal to λ max =247nm,  so this formation for stable onium species need existence 1.5 M HCl in aqueous solution and 1x10-4M paracetamol, with 15 minutes shaking time, also and in order to enhancement the extraction efficiency need operation existence 50% methanol and 0.1 M NaCl in the aqueous phase thermodynamic study shows the operation was endothermic with data equal to Δ Hex = 0. 0397  KJmol-1 , Δ G ex = -54.44 kJmol-1, Δ Sex =174.06 J mol-1k-1 , the study involved also organic solvent effect , interference and spectrophotometric determination of Fe3+ and drug paracetamol.Key words: Onium System, Iron (III), Paracetamol, Determination.

Abstract

In order to determine the best selection criteria to improve the grain yield of maize for synthetic cultivar, Ibaa 5012 under watered and water stress treatment (5 and 10 days interval), an experiment was conducted in the field of Crop Science Dept. College of Agriculture-University of Baghdad, during two seasons, spring and fall in 2013, using Randomized complete block design with four replications. The genetic, phenotypic, environment and path coefficient were estimated for ear length, no. of rows, no. of grains row-1, no. of grains plant-1, grain weight, no. of ears plant-1, root weight, water use efficiency and grain yield. The results showed that the grain weight was highly positive, genetic (0.9735), phenotypic (0.9714) environment (0.9552) correlated with grain yield, and was positively correlated with other traits such as ear length (0.8445, o.7216), no. of rows (0.8918, 0.8141), no. of grain row-1 (0.9068, 0.8554), water use efficiency (0.6867, 6452) and root weight (0.5068, 0.4369), due to high direct positive effect in the grain yield (1.0576), in spring season irrigation treatment, the correlations in the water stress treatment were the no. of grains plant-1 with the yield at the genetic, phenotypic and environment level (0.8912, 0.8966,0.9435) respectively, due to high positive direct effect (0.7459). In fall season, irrigation treatment, the genetic, phenotypic, and environmental high and positive correlations were for trait no. of grain plant also (0.9344, 0.9179, 0.7510) respectively, and the value of positive direct effect was (0.8498). In water stress treatment, the high positive direct effect was for no. of grains plant-1 too (0.5458) due to high positive genetic, phenotypic and environment correlations with yield (0.8470, 0.8497, 0.9346) respectively, and it have high positive correlations with most other traits. It can be concluding that the grain weight and no. of grains plant-1 best selection criteria to improve the yield of maize population.Keywords: Maize, Yield, Direct effect, Genetic correlation, Water use efficiency.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a major risk factor for chronic periodontitis (CP) and hyperglycemia has an important role in the enhancement of the severity of the periodontitis. It has been reported that the progression of CP causes shifting of the balance between bone formation and resorption toward osteoclastic resorption, and this will lead to the release of collagenous bone breakdown products into the local tissues and the systemic circulation. Cross-linked N-telopeptide of type I collagen (NTx) is the amino-terminal peptides of type I collagen which is released during the process of bone resorption. This study was conducted to determine the effects of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on serum level of NTx in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and in systemically healthy patients with CP and to correlate NTx level with the clinical periodontal parameters in the studied groups. Materials and methods: The studied sample consisted of ninety subjects of both genders with an age range (35-55). They were divided into three groups, the first group consisted of 30 subjects with healthy periodontium and systemically healthy  (control group), the second group consisted of 30 patients having chronic periodontitis and type 2 diabetes mellitus (CPDM) group, and the third group consisted of 30 patients with chronic periodontitis only and systemically healthy (CP) group. All the subjects enrolled in this study were with normal body mass index. The clinical periodontal parameters measured were plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PPD), and relative attachment level (RAL). The blood samples were collected from all individuals and examined to measure the serum level of NTx using enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA). Patients with chronic periodontitis were treated with scaling and root planning (SRP) and recalled for further measurements of the clinical periodontal parameters and collection of the blood sample to measure the serum level of NTx after eight weeks. Results: All the clinical periodontal parameters at the baseline were higher than that after treatment. PPD and RAL were highest in CPDM group followed by CP. Regarding the level of NTx at the baseline; it was highest in CPDM group followed by CP group then the control group. After treatment, results revealed a reduction in NTx level for both CPDM and CP groups. Regarding the correlation between the clinical periodontal parameters and NTx level, the results revealed almost a non-significant weak positive correlation. Conclusions: SRP is an impactful procedure and results in the improvement of all the clinical periodontal parameters and reduction in the serum level of cross-linked N-telopeptide of type I collagen which could be considered as a good bone resorption marker in the studied groups.Keywords: Periodontitis, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Cross-linked N-telopeptide of type I collagen, Nonsurgical periodontal therapy.

Abstract

Chitosan-schiff base with three different ratios of para-Dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde& chitosan Schiff base hydrogels have been prepared for controlled drug release study. The synthesized chitosan Schiff base and chitosan Schiff base hydrogel were characterized by FT-IR, UV-Visible, SEM, analysis. Swelling properties of the hydrogel were investigated at three different media pH (2, 7, 10). The swelling degree varied with the pH, amount of crosslinking agent glutaraldehyde and with the amount of para-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde for the hydrogels. All hydrogels were used for controlled drug release system. Aspirin was used as model drug, in three different buffer solution (2, 7, 10) as release media. The rate of release of drugs in the pH2 is more than that of pH7 and pH10 in the polymer hydrogels.Keywords: Chitosan, Chitosan Schiff base, Hydrogel, Controlled drug release.
