Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of learning styles and students' critical thinking skills inachieving mathematics learning achievement. This research method is a secondary researchmethod through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. A total of ten journal articleswere analyzed to identify the relationship between learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic)and critical thinking skills with students' mathematics achievement. The results of the studyindicate that learning styles have a significant impact on mathematics learning achievement, where students who understand their learning styles tend to get better learning outcomes. Inaddition, critical thinking skills have also been shown to play an important role in improvingachievement, with students who have a high level of critical thinking being superior in solvingmathematics problems. This study recommends the development of learning methods thatpay attention to differences in individual learning styles and emphasize improving criticalthinking skills to improve student achievement.

Abstract

This study intends to evaluate students' critical thinking (CT) skills after being taught aboutCT. The evaluation focuses on three core CT competencies: identification, identifyingbiases, and inference (Erstad in Fatiha et al., 2021). Data were collected through 36 studentanswers based on CT questions on news analysis material in reading class. This researchadopted a descriptive analysis method to assess and categorize students' CT abilities basedon high, middle, and low levels. A modified version of NEIU's CT rubric was utilized forassessment. The results indicated that 67% of students achieved a high level, 28% achieveda middle level, and 5% fell into the low category. Students at the high level succeeded inapplying all three core CT skills. In addition, students at the middle level succeeded inapplying two CT core skills, and those with low ability could only demonstrate one CT coreskill. Hence, The study presents an alternate framework for instructing CT.

Abstract

Mathematics learning is developing rapidly in today's era. E-learning is a tool in mathematics learningto improve mathematical literacy. The purpose of this study was to determine e-learning-basedmathematics learning in improving mathematical literacy. The method used is a systematic reviewof literature. The results of research related to e-learning-based mathematics learning to improvestudents' mathematical literacy have received quite good attention in recent years, as shown by theincreasing number of researchers who review research related to the application of e-learning toimprove mathematical literacy in 2020-2024. Second, research tends to be conducted at the juniorhigh school level with the most commonly chosen material being trigonometry, statistics, andquadrilaterals. Third, this literature review is dominated by Java and Bali by choosing quantitativeresearch as its research method. Fourth, the most widely used learning model is the blended learningmodel, while the most widely chosen e-learning media is the Google Classroom application. Fifth, elearning-based mathematics learning is effective in improving students' mathematical literacy inIndonesia. The benefit of this study is that readers gain useful insight or knowledge. Suggestions forother researchers are hopefully able to conduct research throughout Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of inflectional and derivational morphemes in Selena Gomez’stalkshow on mental health awareness. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the researchanalyzes transcripts from selected episodes through purposive sampling. Data collection involvedtranscript analysis, morpheme identification, and classification based on meaning. The findingsreveal 207 total morphemes, comprising 172 inflectional morphemes (83,1%) and 35 derivationalmorphemes (16,9%). Eight types of inflectional morphemes were identified, primarily used forgrammatical functions. Derivational morphemes included noun-forming, adjective-forming, adverbforming, and verb-forming suffixes, along with verb-forming prefixes, contributing to vocabularyenrichment and meaning variation in mental health discussions.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between self-confidence and speaking performance among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Utilizing a mixed-method, data were collected through a self-confidence questionnaire and speaking performance assessments from 24 university-level English major students. The analysis categorized students’ confidence levels into low, moderate and high. A total of 9 students (37.5%) fell into the moderate confidence category. Meanwhile, 15 students (62.5%) were categorized as having high self-confidence. Cross-tabulation and Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the data, revealing a statistically significant positive correlation between self-confidence and speaking performance (r = 0.637, p = 0.001). These findings suggest that students with higher self-confidence tend to perform better in speaking tasks, demonstrating greater fluency, accuracy, and active engagement. Furthermore, the study reinforces previous research that highlights self-confidence as a key determinant of successful oral communication in EFL contexts. The findings underscore the need for EFL educators to foster student self-confidence through supportive teaching practices and meaningful speaking activities, contributing to more effective speaking instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse allomorph in the book The Practice of English Language Teaching by Jeremy Harmer, especially in chapter 3 “Background Issues in Language Learning”. The method used is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling technique and document analysis. The data were analysed based on the pronunciation variations of the suffix -s or -es (plural), -ed (past tense), and irregular form (suppletion). This study found that the -s or -es allomorph is devided into three pronunciation categories : /s/, /z/, and /iz/, while the -ed allomorph consist of /t/, /d/, and /id/. Suppletion is found in partial (e.g., teach à taught, bring à brought ) and full (good à better à best) forms. The most dominant allomorph category is the suffix /d/ (29,11%), followed by /z/ (24,68%), and /s/ (12,3%). This study provides insights into patterns of word form variation and English that are relevant for language learning, helping teachers and learners understand the phonological and morphological aspects of language better.
