Abstract

This study systematically reviewed the literature on trust-related publications in zakat institutions. This study revealed the development of the study of trust in zakat institutions, the thematic classification of the study, and discussions on the direction of future research development. This study adopted the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) system in screening the articles that were the subject of the study. From 415 zakat study documents indexed by the Scopus database, this study selects all articles and leaves 24 studies that make trust in zakat institutions the primary study material.The results show an increasing trend in the number of publications discussing trust in zakat institutions in recent years. This study also classified the findings from empirical research and conceptual models in the factors that shape trust in zakat institutions and the influence of faith on zakat behavior. This study also mapped out qualitative study findings that explain the sources of public distrust of zakat institutions and the solutions offered. This research is a pioneer in the discussion of literature systematically related to the research of trust in zakat institutions. This study also discussed potential research develop a survey of trust in zakat institutions.

Abstract

This research aims to build a cash waqf governance framework that incorporates blended finance to develop the infrastructure in Nusantara, which is the proposed future capital city of Indonesia. Data was collected through a combination of interviews with eight informants and a survey administered to thirty respondents. The acquired data was analyzed using a mixed method that included the thematic evaluation and the analytic network process. The present study posits that the utilization of cash waqf, as a form of innovative financing mandated by the government, holds potential for the development of health infrastructure in the newly established capital of the nation. The findings of this study have significant implications for the development of policies aimed at adopting the blended finance governance structure required by the government.

Abstract

Jalabi and Sufism are two abiding practices among Yoruba Muslims. Both have been instrumental to the consolidation and propagation of Islam across the Yorubaland. Many early Yoruba Muslims, especially the Islamic scholars, were both Jalabi practitioners and Sufi adherents. Many Muslims of later generations have, however, abused both. Hence, the coming of Salafiyyah advocates to displace the two, having been considered as innovations (bidcah) that endure among the Muslims. The Salafiyyah advocates propelled another misconception as they failed to acknowledge the parallels between the two but tarred both with the same brush. This now makes it difficult to record the necessary corrections to purge society of the evils of quacks that parade themselves in the land under the guise of Islam. Therefore, This study aims to examine the two phenomena to find their legitimacy in Islam and identify the similarities or otherwise between them. It will also determine the appropriateness or otherwise of Salafiyyah's advocacy against them. Historical and exegetical methods are adopted. The former enables the assessment of historical facts connected to Jalabi and Sufism in Yorubaland. At the same time, the latter allows assessing relevant works, especially the primary sources of Islam, to find the legitimacy for the two variables of this paper. Findings revealed that Sufism came down to Yorubaland along with Islam and that early Muslim scholar devised Jalabi as a dacwah strategy to consolidate and propagate Islam in the land. It also revealed that both exist independently, though combined by some scholars, while many Jalabi practitioners are not Sufis and vice versa. The work concluded by recommending that Salafiyyah scholars address each according to its peculiarities because Jalabi practitioners in modern times are businessmen, while the Sufis are not.

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between the effect of GDP and Interest Rate on the Return on Assets of Islamic insurance companies in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic, using the period 2020 to 2022. Multiple linear regression is used to test the degree of relationship between macroeconomic factors and company performance. The results of the study show that GDP and Interest Rate have no significant effect on the ROA of Islamic life insurance companies in Indonesia. There are three reasons provided, the sharia insurance industry has different characteristics from other industries, the social behavior factor during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are also other factors that affect the ROA of sharia insurance companies. The findings contribute to the operation of Islamic insurance in Indonesia for regulators, investors, and policyholders.

Abstract

Contemporary scholars in Nigeria have duly acknowledged the significant role of electronic media in conveying the pure messages of Islam. Nevertheless, there exists variation in the approaches taken by advocates of Islam, resulting in diverse outcomes. This study undertook a comparative examination of two radio da'wah programs in Ilorin: "Madrasatud Dalilis Shar'i", hosted by Professor Abdulrahman Ahmad and "Manhaj Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a" hosted by Alfa Ali Jabata. The aim was to assess the relevance and impact of each program on the masses. Employing a combination of descriptive and comparative research methods, including interviews and observations, the study focused on selected episodes. The relevance of the programs was derived from the examination of the two programs while the impact assessment involved considering audience feedback and listener engagement. The findings indicate that "Manhaj ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a" adopts a predominantly satirical tone, whereas "Madrasatud Dalilis Shari" maintains an academic approach. In light of these observations, the study recommends that effective da'wah activities should strike a balance between being mild and academic and should not be sataric. This objective could be realized through the establishment of an institution in Ilorin to regulate da'wah practices. This institution, ideally comprising a committee of experts in the field, would require government support to ensure its effectiveness.
