Abstract

During the worldwide financial catastrophe and pandemic, non-financial firms faced several challenges. Corporate survival in these difficult times necessitates the agitation for the long-term growth of the companies. Sustainable growth is defined as growth witnessed by a company in a stand-alone position without any outside finance. Sustainability in a term of long-term growth is obtained through the existence of effective qualities of the board of directors. There is indeed the existence of fantastic research on the theme of our study. However, the studies were not only scanty, but they were of divergent results and did not cover all the countries. Against these loopholes, our study was conducted to investigate the influence of board qualities on the sustainable growth of non-financial firms in Nigeria. Listed firms other than financial ones on the Nigerian Exchange Group, between 2011 to 2020 were the population of the study. 60 companies were selected through the application of content analysis. The best multiple regression model adopted for the study, after the conduction of the Breusch-Pagan LM test and Hausmann test, was the random effect through e-view 8.0. The result obtained was that board qualities – size, independence, and meeting – had positive cum significant impacts on SGR (coefficients: 0.0659, 0.0405, 0.0508; p-values < 0.05). while board gender diversity was positively correlated with sustainable growth though insignificant at the 5% threshold of significance (coefficient: 0.0397; p-value > 5%). The study was in support of principal-agent theory because effective features of the board were seen to be a way of solving the principal-agent problem.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is a hard time for entrepreneurs because economic activity will undoubtedly suffer. Women entrepreneurs, in particular, are more vulnerable to the pandemic's adverse effects on their businesses due to their dual role as entrepreneurs and housewives, which limits their movements more than men. This study investigates the impact of passion, family life, and government support on the success of women entrepreneurs. As a statistical analysis tool, the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling method was employed. The findings show that passion and government support have a positive impact on the success of female entrepreneurs, whereas family life has no impact on it. The results are expected taken into account by the government so that the programs and systems put in place to support the success of women entrepreneurs can be maintained and improved.

Abstract

The majority of MSMEs in the Sukmajaya sub-district, Depok, are engaged in the culinary field, totaling 771 MSMEs out of a total of 2,835 MSMEs. The decline in the number of MSMEs in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult for MSMEs to market their products. On the other hand, during this period, SMEs emerged with digital innovation. Digital marketing planning is necessary for MSMEs in running their business to create a competitive advantage and improve marketing performance. MSMEs that do not implement digital marketing in running their business will be left behind and lose customers because customer buying behavior has changed towards digital. This research is quantitative descriptive research using the SmartPLS 3.0 tool to analyze the effect of each variable. The type of data is primary data by distributing questionnaires to 125 Culinary MSME respondents in the Sukmajaya sub-district, Depok city via Google form. In this study, data analysis techniques were carried out in the form of descriptive data analysis and inferential data analysis, and hypothesis testing. The results of the study prove that digital marketing planning using the SOSTAC method has a positive and significant effect on Competitive advantage, SOSTAC Digital marketing planning has a positive and significant effect on marketing performance and Competitive advantage has a positive and significant effect on marketing performance. The results of the study show that SOSTAC Digital Marketing Planning has a positive and significant indirect relationship to marketing performance through competitive advantage, which is bigger than the direct relationship. Thus, in SOSTAC Digital Marketing Planning, to achieve marketing performance, MSME actors must first be able to create a competitive advantage.

Abstract

Many previous studies examined the relationship between Intellectual Capital (IC) and a firm’s performance, whereas most of the time, IC has been shown to affect a firm’s performance positively. However, two years during the COVID-19 pandemic differs from the ordinary years. There was a massive change in people's economic activities. Restrictions on people's movement and mobility are needed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. Apart from causing crises in the health sector, this pandemic also causes concerns in the social and economic sectors, including MSMEs. Therefore, this research was conducted to understand the effect of IC, including Human Capital (HC), Structural Capital (SC), and Relational Capital (RC), on MSME resilience during the pandemic period. This information is essential to formulate the best support for MSMEs in the IC context. This research is quantitative research using Ordinary Least Square (OLS). Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to 174 MSMEs in Bandung using the random sampling technique. The type of data used is cross-section data. This study found that HC and RC positively affect MSME resiliency during the pandemic, meanwhile, SC does not. This study suggests that the most appropriate form of support for MSMEs in times of crisis is to provide education and knowledge sharing which can expand the skills and knowledge of MSME businesspeople. And in addition, it is also important to support MSMEs in developing their relationships with various parties to maintain their business during the pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine if the financing behaviour of South African state-owned entities (SOEs) have a target capital structure which they adjust towards and if so, the speed of adjustment, a central tenet of the Trade-off Theory. An unbalanced panel data set from a sample of thirty-three commercial SOEs were studied using a dynamic partial adjustment model. The findings provide strong evidence that South African SOEs follow the trade-off theory based on the existence of a target capital structure and speed of adjustment of 21.5% per annum towards the target which is slower than other SOEs in developing economies. The findings also revealed that these SOEs take almost five years to close off two-thirds of the gap between the actual and optimal capital structures. The findings will be of interest to observers of the economy, as they measure the capacity of SOEs to play a leading role in investment and in improving the efficiency of the economy. They could also inform decision making and policy development on SOEs.

This latest research discusses the need for a better understanding of interest in entrepreneurship in vocational high school students. Financial literacy is knowledge needed by everyone (including vocational high school students) in everyday life. It consists of studying theory, mastering practical skills and developing financial thinking, all of which will make each of us financially successful. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire survey which was carried out at the end of the presentation of the material by the lecturers with 45 question indicators. Structural Equation Model with Partial Least Square is an analytical technique used in this study. Testing path analysis with a measurement model (outer model) is carried out to find out the correctness of the answers given to the questions, namely measurements of internal consistency, convergent validity and discriminative validity, then proceed with testing the structural model (Inner Model). The results of the study show that the school environment has a direct effect on financial literacy and this financial literacy has an effect on the entrepreneurial characteristics of students. Meanwhile, the school environment and financial literacy have no effect on students' interest in entrepreneurship. This study shows that school environment, financial literacy and business characteristics can be valuable indicators to increase and trigger students' interest in entrepreneurship.
