Abstract

Local wisdom in this modern life has been faded, overshadowed by the rapid pace of globalization and technological advancements. It is important to investigate humanity education embedded in cultural narratives, such as the Legend of Lake Bagendit, to preserve Humanity values and foster a sense of community. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a sociolinguistic approach to analyze the humanity dimensions reflected in the legend. Data were collected through textual analysis of the narrative, supported by interviews with cultural experts and a review of related literature to ensure triangulation. The findings reveal that the legend embodies key humanity values, very identic with “Nyi Endit” or Ms. Stingy so the values found are tolerance, respect and interconnected which are conveyed through symbolic language and social interactions within the story. These values are deeply rooted in Sundanese culture and serve as moral lessons that remain relevant to addressing contemporary social issues. This research emphasizes the significance of integrating local wisdom into modern educational frameworks to promote humanity education and cultural preservation.

Abstract

This study explored the preferred language learning styles (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic - VAK) among ninth-grade students in English class and examined gender-based differences in these preferences, as well as the preferred classroom activities aligned with each learning style. Using a mixed-method approach, quantitative data were collected through the 24-item Barsch Learning Styles Inventory (BLSI) from 189 students and analyzed using SPSS. Qualitative data were gathered from semi-structured interviews with 10 students and analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings revealed that visual learning was the most preferred style overall gender, chosen by 68% of participants, followed by auditory learning (17%) and kinesthetic learning (15%). Gender differences were observed, with female students favoring auditory styles, male students preferring kinesthetic methods, and both genders equally preferred visual learning. This study also found that students expressed a strong preference for activities that align with visual learning, including the use of visual materials, highlighting or color-coding text, and incorporating symbols and animations. Additionally, activities involving such as independent reading, note-taking, and using videos or films were highlighted for their effectiveness in fostering comprehension, retention, and engagement. The dominance of visual learning styles emphasizes the need for educators to prioritize visual materials in their teaching strategies. However, the presence of auditory and kinesthetic learners highlights the importance of a multimodal teaching approach.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of using Quizizz, a game-based digital learning platform, on students’ reading comprehension of procedure text at Semen Padang Vocational School. The research was motivated by students’ struggles in understanding procedure texts, especially in following sequences, identifying main ideas, and grasping instructions-challenges commonly found in vocational school contexts. The objective of this study is to determine whether the implementation of Quizizz significantly improves reading comprehension among eleventh-grade students in the Industrial Electronic Engineering program. A pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test employed, involving 17 students who participated in four sessions of instruction using Quizizz. Data were collected using comprehension-based tests before and after the intervention. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading score, with the average increasing from 46.18 (pre-test) to 87.94 (post-test). A paired sample t-test yielded a t-value of 7.87, which is significantly higher than the t-table value of 2.131, indicating a statistically significant effect. These results demonstrate that Quizizz not only enhances comprehension through its interactive and gamified approach but also fosters student motivation and engagement. Students who previously had low scores were able to show remarkable progress, indicating that the tool is effective for a wide range of learner abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of authentic materials in teaching writing within the School Mover program. Through a project-based learning approach, the research demonstrates that integrating authentic materials—such as news articles, social media posts, and song lyrics—significantly enhances students’ writing skills in Class VIII B of the 1st state junior high school in Garut, West Java, Indonesia. The use of authentic materials not only makes the learning process more engaging and relevant but also increases students’ motivation and participation. The findings reveal improvements in students’ ability to organize ideas logically, use appropriate vocabulary, and apply correct grammar. Additionally, support from teachers and peer feedback played a crucial role in the successful implementation of authentic materials. Although students initially faced challenges in understanding complex texts, strategies such as text simplification and the use of visual aids helped them overcome these obstacles. This study recommends further use of authentic materials in various educational contexts to improve students’ language skills.
