Abstract

Geologically southern part of New Guinea Island is the oldest part of the mainland and have most speciose of freshwater fish. Asmat is one area in Southern New Guinea where has some large river systems such as Siret and Vriendschap Rivers. There is not much information on freshwater fish diversity of the area. This study aim to know freshwater fish species of both river systems, in order to manage the area as conservation area by local government. Active fish collection method was applied to sample fish of Siret and Vriendschap River Systems. One seine net, 3.6 m length, 1.23 m in height, and with a mesh size of less than 0.5 cm, and traditional scoop net were used to collect fish. The Siret and Vriendschap freshwater fish fauna consist of 22 species in 18 genera and 15 families. Cochlefelis danielsi (Ariidae), Mogurnda cingulata (Eleotridae), Zenarchopterus novaeguineae (Hemiram-phidae), Melanotaenia ogilbyi (Melanotaenidae), Synaptura villosa (Soleidae) are endemic to Southern New Guinea. Spesifically, Mogurnda cingulata (Banded Gudgeon) and Melanotaenia ogilbyi (Ogilbyi’s Rainbowfish) have restricted distribution in Southern New Guinea. Further research in smaller stream and its tributaries might increase freshwater fish diversity of Asmat.Key words: Southern New Guinea, Asmat, freshwater fish

Abstract

The application of silvicultural system which deviate from the existing policy leads to aberration of sustainable forest management conducted by IUPHHK holders. Hence observation for implementation in TPTI and TPTJ silvicultural system using SILIN Technique in forest management conducted by IUPHHK holders in Papua needs to be done. This study aims to determine the implementation of TPTI and TPTJ silvicultural system using SILIN Technique in forest management especially in terms of standing diameter increment accretion. Data analysis performed by calculating standing increment, which CAI = Yn-Yn-1 and MAI = Yn –Yo/Tn. The result shows that height and diameter increment (MAI) on TPTJ silvicultural system using SILIN Technique is higher than increment in PUP plot of TPTI silvicultural system. Therefore canopy openings, fertilizations, superior seeds plantations and environmental manipulation in silvicultural system with SILIN Technique contributes influence to standing growth rate, however TPTJ system showed reduction in diameter increment on fourth year measurement suspected by lackness in intensive silvicultural system’s main element. Observation are used in this study.Key words: CAI, MAI, TPTI and SILIN Technique.

Abstract

Beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) have been known as analgetic reducer. The study about this research has been going on right now. The goal of this research is to study the analgesic effect of beluntas (P. indica) leaf infused into male mice of swiss strain. The method used is the stretching chemical stimuli using acetic acid as an inducer of pain. Healthy male mice of Swiss strain were divided into five groups, and each group consisted of 5 mice. Group I was given paracetamol at a dose of 65 mg/kg of body weight, group II were given distilled water , the group III-V were given beluntas leaf infuse in the variation of 10 %, 20 % and 40 %. Thirty minutes after test substance application, acetic acid of 100 mg/kg of body weight were given intraperitoneally in all groups and stretching of mice was observed every 5 minutes for 1 hour. The data was analyzed by using normality test of Kolmogorov-Smirnov; the  test of homogeneity of variance was analyzed by ANOVA and post hoc tests were to differenciate the percentage analgetic of every group. Statistical test showed normal distributed and homogeneous data; there are significant differences of percentage analgesic between paracetamol and beluntas leaf infuse of 10, 20, and 40 % (p < 0.05). There was significant differences between infuse of beluntas leaves with positive control (parasetamol) in mice. Key words: Analgetic, leave of beluntas (P. indica), infuse, mice.

Abstract

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) plays important role in increasing plant growth and plant protection against pathogen. Its diversity depends on their habitat, including the abundance and distribution of the host plant on agricultural area. This research has aim to explore the diversity of AMF from the rhizosphere of Pokem (Setaria italica) using trapping methods. Soil samples were collected from Numfor Island, Biak Numfor, Papua. The isolation of AMF from the soil sample was elucidated by wet sieving method. Every different spore then was inoculated to the root of Desmodium heterocarpon to propagate and monosporic culture was grown on Shorgum bicolor.  The result showed that the number of the spore that was obtained by traping method increased up to 63,63%. Single spores inoculation of AMF on D. heterocarpon was high percentage (85%) of success. On average, Monosporic culture of single spore inoculation on S. bicolor reached up to 30,53 spores/10g soil sample.  There are 6 genera (9 species) were obtain in this study, namely Glomus, Claroideoglomus, Scutellospora, Gigaspora, Ambispora and Acaulospora. Furthermore, identification using molecular method should be done for proper identification.Key words: AMF, plant rhizosfer, S. italica, trapping methods

Abstract

Srikaya (Annona squamosa L.) is a fruit that has been widely known to the people of Indonesia that have effective properties as traditional medicine. Srikaya seeds and leaves are known as a medicinal plant worm exterminator. This study aims to determine the anthelmintic influence of extract juice and srikaya leaf infused against roundworm of chicken in vitro, to determine the effect of concentration of extract juice and infuse of the  srikaya leaf to the time of death of roundworm of chicken in vitro and to determine the most effective  concentration  of the extract juice and infuse of the srikaya leaf that has anthelmintic influence. This research is an experimental research design with Post test only controlled group design consisting of 150 of A. galli worms and were divided into 4 groups of treatments. Group 1 were put in NaCl 0.9 % liquid; group 2 was in srikaya leaves juice extract at a concentration of 25, 50, and 75 g/100 ml; group 3 was in srikaya leaves infuse with a concentration of 25, 50, and 75 g/100 ml, and group 4 was given  0.5 % pyrantel pamoate liquid. Each treatments containing 5 worms in 25 ml were done at 3 replication and incubated at 37 oC. The data were obtained from the observation of A. galli time of death every 15 minutes. The data were analyzed using One Way Anova test followed by the Post Hoc LSD test. There was an increasing of the death of A. galli correlating with the increase of the juice extract and infuse the srikaya leaf concentrations. The result showed there was a significant difference of NaCl 0.9 % and pyrantel pamoate 0.5 % treatments and there was no significant difference of the juice extract and infuse the srikaya leaf on worm death time. Extract juice and srikaya leaf infusion has anthelmintic influence against A. galli in vitro. The greater the concentration of the treatments, the greater anthelmintic influence visible on the death time acceleration of A. galli. Concentration of 75 g/100 ml is  the most effective treatments of extract juice and srikaya leaf infusion but still lower than that of 0.4 % pyrantel pamoate.Key words: srikaya, A. squamosa, anthelmintic influence and A. galli
