Abstract

Sampare (Glochidion sp., Family: Phyllantaceae) is a plant which grows dominant in Biak, Papua. Based on the local wisdom of the community, by hereditary, it can be used as an herbal medicine to treat the malaria disease. This study aims to determine the toxicity of LC50 and to know the phytochemical compounds of extracted leaf of Glochidion sp using ethanol. The Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) and phytochemical screening using reagent chemical substance methods were used in this research. The results of this study can be concluded that the toxicity of extracted leaf of Glochidion sp. using ethanol was low, with LC50 = 758.58 ppm and the results of phytochemical analysis showed the existence of the content of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and quinones. But, the steroids and triterpenoids could not be found in the extracted leaf of Glochidion sp using ethanol. Therefore, for further research is needed to isolate the bioactive compounds and in vivo test on the plasmodium, which cause the malaria disease. Key words: Glochidion sp., malaria desease, Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT), LC50, phytochemical analysis

Abstract

When ammonia in waste water is lost inappropriately, it  will raise an adverse environmental effect for the aquatic cycle. Anammox, anaerobic ammonia oxidation, is a novel process in which nitrite is used as an electron acceptor in the conversion of ammonium to nitrogen gas. The anammox process removes ammonium in the autrotrophic system by leaving little biomass. This study aims to analyze the effect of salinity on the growth of anammox bacteria. The samples used were from the brackish water sediments of the East Flood Canal River of Semarang. The isolation was done by gram staining and the bacteria were inoculated on media with different salinity concentration and the growth was measured using spectrophotometer. The results showed that anammox bacteria had a higher growth rate of 3% (control) when it was grown on a medium with a concentration of 9%. Anammox bacteria grown on anammox selective media showed that the bacteria were able to adapt to environments with different salinity concentrations of 2% and 9%. Key words: anammox, ammonium, nitrogen, anammox bacteria.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the factors that affect of the adolescent reproductive health service in Jayapura Municipality. This research applied an explanatory research method with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected by questionnaire, which were involving 393 adolescents aged 15 - 19 years-old at five senior high schools across Jayapura Municipality area. Results according to chi-square statistical test provided correlated variables to age (p value = 0.047), religion (p value = 0.048), pocket money (p value = 0.000), socio-culture (p value = 0.001), tariff (p value = 0.047), staff (p value = 0.043), facility (p value = 0.046), knowledge (p value = 0.002), attitude (p value = 0.006). Furthermore, the logistic regression test resulted in staff, need, and domicile status as the most affecting variables on the use of the adolescent reproductive health. This research recommended that service staff had to be friendly and take account for confidentiality, to understand the development of the adolescence, either physically, psychologically, or socially, to provide adolescent reproductive health service at schools, and to have an open communication between adolescents and their parents in order to monitor their development. Key words: health services, PKPR, Student High Schools, Jayapura

Abstract

MAS diseases (Motile Aeromonas Septicaemia) is caused by the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila. One of the natural ingredients that can be used as an alternative to inhibit bacterial activity is the extract of red galangal rhizome (Alpinia purpurata). Active substances possessed of this material have potential as antibacterial. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of red galangal rhizome extract in the control of MAS disease in tilapia. The type of this research is experimental research in Completely Random Design (RAL) with 6 treatments, which are positive control, negative control, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 ppm. The result of the research on the activity of the galangal extract bacteria on A. hydrophila obtained the widest clear zone at 1000 ppm constipation, which is 9.7625 mm. The treatment has been conducted by immersion of Tilapia fish into the extracted red galangan rgizomes for 5 minutes, then it was put into aquarium for maintenance for 7 days. 0.1 ml A. hydrophila (108 cfu/ml) was injected to Tilapia. The result of the research on antibacterial shoes the wides clear zone at 1000 ppm with constipation, which is 9.7625 mm and the effectiveness test of red galangal extract on tilapia infected by A. hydrophila bacteria experience (ulcer) healing after 7 days with the concentration of rhizome extract of galangal 1000 ppm. Key words: red galangal rhizome extract, A. hydrophila, A. purpurata.

Abstract

One of zoogeographic provinces of freshwater fish in New Guinea is Southern Province, which almost the same size as Northern Province. This region has high diversity of freshwater fish and also shared 33 species with northern Australia due to land connection in the past. Some endemicity areas with high conservation value are found in this region. The research aims is documenting freshwater fish diversity and its distribution in Southern Papua regencies: Boven Digoel, Mappi, Merauke and Timika. It had been conducted from July to November 2016. Purposive sampling method was used on this research. The fish samples were collected with active method using seine net and those collected with passive method was using gill netts. Fifty species, which consist of 44 natives and 6 introduced species that are part of 29 families and 39 genera were recorded in Timika, Asmat, Boven Digoel, Mappi and Merauke. There was no any dominant fish family found in the survey. Most species found during the survey (60%) has distributed in South New Guinea and Northern Australia. Six (6) introduced species were found spreading in several locations in Southern Papua. Freshwater fish richness in South of Papua and its restricted distribution in the area have showed high conservation value of the area, which should be well managed to avoid fish extinction. Key words: native, endemic, introduced, freshwater fish, South of New Guinea

Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand the plant species grown in house yard of local people in Heram District which had been used as food by local people and the potential of those plant to be and income sources for local people. This research was conducted from August 2016–April 2017 using survey and laboratory analysis. Purposive sampling was used to determine the sample, and from 5 villages 5 house yard will be selected to be the sample (total 25 house yard). From this study we found that there were 45 species from 33 family of plants which used as vegetables, ingridients, fruits, and mainly foods.Key words: tanaman pangan, masyarakat lokal, Papua
