Abstract

This study assessed the five language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing and tested their significant relationship with the Grade 8 students’ Average English Grades at Guihulngan National High School-Poblacion, Negros Oriental, school year 2018-2019. Based on the findings, enrichment activities were proposed. The descriptive method was utilized in interpreting the data gathered from the rating sheets showing the students’ English grades, and the adapted questionnaire, testing the skills. Simple Percentage, Weighted Mean, MPS, and T-test were used as statistical tools. The Grade 8 students were Fairly Satisfactory in listening, speaking, and viewing, while they Did Not Meet Expectations in reading and writing. Overall, their performance level was Fairly Satisfactory. Additionally, it was disclosed that the majority or 48 percent of the respondents obtained the general average of Fairly Satisfactory. Moreover, the test of significance revealed that listening, speaking, viewing, and writing have a positive significant relationship with the students’ English grades. However, reading skill was found to have no significant relationship with the students’ grades though both variables possess a positive low correlation. Based on the findings, it can be said that the English Performance level of the Grade 8 students was far below the standard set by the Department of Education which an is Outstanding level, and that Grade in English was a determinant of the Performance level of the respondents. Thus, it is highly recommended that the output of this study be implemented.

Abstract

‘Digital Ecosystem’ is the interdependence of computer software, hardware, and digital services that play a significant role in fulfilling the organization’s objectives. It is a convergence of recent broadband adoption and technological advancement that has pushed the state-of-the-art technologies, and industrial commerce into a flux, for greater market penetration. One of the most significant advantages of the Digital Ecosystem includes mapping of consumer interest (with product or services) to gain a competitive advantage in the market. The research presents various tangible and intangible benefits received by the organization with the help of the Digital Ecosystem. In the future, customers are likely to align their buying behavior based on ‘Digital Ecosystems’ they prefer. The variables involved in buying behavior are complex as well as difficult to measure; hence the qualitative approach has been followed to integrate various aspects of the proposed study. This research is significant because the ‘Digital Ecosystem’ can be a part of a business strategy that can gauge customer requirements, enhance customer experience, and retain customer loyalty.

Abstract

The study assessed solid waste management practices in Ikere local government area of Ekiti state. The purpose of the study was to find out of solid waste management practice. The descriptive survey design research was used for the study. The sample size of three hundred (300) respondents was used for the study.  Five (5) quarters was selected for the study. Five (5) streets were selected from each of the quarters. The simple random sampling technique was used to select sixty (60) houses from each quarter. The instrument for the study contained twenty-nine (29) items structured questionnaire adapted from O’Leary (2014).  A test-retest method of reliability was used, using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). A coefficient of 0.67 was obtained at 0.05 level of significance. Chi-Square (x2) was used to test the hypotheses, at 0.05 alpha level. The finding of the study on burning of refuse as a solid waste management practice revealed that, the Null hypothesis was rejected therefore the result was significant. The researcher recommended that adequate attention must be given to waste management in order to safe guard human health.

Abstract

The average postgraduate student in Ghana has about 20 years exposure in English language, having been taught and instructed in English from primary to tertiary level. It is, therefore, not far-fetched to expect the postgraduate student to commit minimal to no errors in their L2 writings. The seeming consequential minimal scholarly attention on errors in postgraduate writings regardless of the many studies on students’ errors is therefore not surprising. This study is an attempt to identify, categorise and describe the errors in postgraduate dissertations in Ghana and highlight its implications for language teaching. This exploratory qualitative study carries out a content analysis of 20 randomly selected MA, MPhil and PhD dissertations published between 2020 and 2021. The data are analysed using the theory of Error Analysis. After critically assessing the dissertations, seven (7) categories of concord errors were identified and recorded. These are; subject-verb concord errors, inverted subject concord errors, concord errors associated with ‘has’ and ‘have’, determiner-noun errors, concord errors on numbers, noun-pronoun antecedent errors and compound subject concord errors. This implies that postgraduate students are prone to errors, hence, the need to introduce or intensify the teaching of English at the postgraduate level.

Abstract

There have been variances in environmental quality as the globe continues to become a globalized society, however, research including trade globalization into the environmental policy framework remains inconclusive. Using the Uruguayan time series dataset between 1990 and 2020, this study investigated the impact of economic growth, natural resource rents, trade globalization, and financial development on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Using an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, this inquiry quantifies short- and long-run dynamics. The results of the ARDL bounds test indicate a long-term relationship between carbon emissions and these variables. Additionally, the ARDL short-and long-run analyses demonstrated a positive and statistically significant effect of economic growth, natural resource rents, and trade globalization on Uruguay's CO2 emissions. However, both the short-run and long-run coefficients of financial development are statistically significant and negative, indicating that financial development has no effect on environmental deterioration in Uruguay. Furthermore, by using Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS), Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS), and Canonical Cointegration Regression (CCR), the findings were confirmed. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that international trade regulations be reevaluated and export limitations for goods with high levels of pollution are strengthened.
