Backgrounds: Odontomas often occur at a young age and are found incidentally in disturbed tooth eruptions, mostly intraosseous lesions. Compound odontomas have been identified as small tooth-like structures known as denticles. An accurate diagnosis of odontoma cannot be made on clinical examination. The majority of odontoma diagnoses have been made by radiographic examination. Odontoma often occurs unilaterally in one area with a single or multiple numbers, in this case, several areas have been found in the maxilla. The purpose of this case report is the radiographic evaluation of compound odontomas using panoramic radiographs and 3D Cone Beam CT. Case reports: A 12 years old female patient with her mother came to the orthodontist with the main complaint of crowding teeth and wanted treatment. On examination, an inflammation appeared on the palate behind the left RA lateral incisor. There was no history of trauma to the orofacial area. There was no family history of unerupted teeth or hypodontia and nothing relevant medical history. The orthodontist referred the patient for a panoramic radiograph and CBCT examination. Results: The results of the panoramic radiograph examination have showed radiopaque images resembling denticles in several regions, was made the case has been interesting to appoint in this case report, and this result was confirmed by the results of the CBCT examination which can show the location, number, and size of denticles in this patient.

Background : In contrast to the posterior teeth, which are still in occlusion, No incisal contact in the anterior part of the maxilla and mandibula between the vertical dimension is referred to as anterior open. Skeletal irregularity during the expansion of the intermaxillary gap and poor habits can both contribute to openbite. Tongue thrusting is one of the undesirable practices that might result in anterior openbite. Objective : This treatment's objective is to break negative habits by employing myofunctional therapy to develop a healthy swallowing pattern and train the posture of the tongue and lips while at rest. Case Report : A 19-year-old woman who protruded her tongue visited a dental office with the main complaint of an unattractive anterior open bite. She had an open bite of 12 12 21 22 dan 31 32 41 42, a Class II Division I subdivision Angle, a Class II skeletal relationship (protruding maxilla, retrusive mandibula, and bidental protrusive), an overjet of 6.87 mm, an overbite of 0.43 mm, and a Class II skeletal relationship. Case Management : myofunctional therapy combined with straightwire orthodontic treatment. Result : The anterior open bite is rectified, the overjet is reduced to 2,2 mm, and the overbite is increased to 2 mm after 16 months of therapy. The patient's poor swallowing pattern has improved, and their terrible tongue-trusting behavior has decreased. Conclusion : Straightwire method and myofunctional therapy are both effective treatments for anterior openbite repair brought on by tongue thrusting.

Background : The term "gingival recession" describes the downward movement of the gum border in relation to the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ), which is the point where the crown and root of a tooth meet. There are several different factors that might contribute to gingival recession, including as mechanical trauma, orthodontic treatment, or plaque-induced inflammation. Not only do patients receive orthodontic treatment, but also practising dentists do so because they see orthodontic therapy as a crucial part of multidisciplinary dental care. Objective : To discuss the potential relationship between gingival recession and bone thickness in the context of orthodontic treatment. Discussion: Bone thickness is impacted by orthodontic treatment, however bone density is not linked to a higher incidence of gingival recession. The patient's periodontal phenotype, which is determined by genetics, environment, and the way they wash their teeth, is connected to increased gingival recession during orthodontic therapy. Conclusion : There is no potential relationship between gingival recession and bone thickness in the context of orthodontic treatment.

Background: The use of fixed orthodontics has a risk of increasing plaque retention, especially the gingival margin area. The decontamination material commonly used is sodium hypochlorite 0.5%, but this antibacterial agent requires further research on the shear strength of the buccal tube attachment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 0.5% sodium hypochlorite on the shear strength of buccal tube attachment after decontamination Method: The research design used was the post test only control group design. The total research sample amounted to 52 samples and was divided into 4 groups: group I Clorhexidine 2% for 1 minute, group II Clorhexidine 2% for 5 minutes, group III 0.5% NaOCl for 1 minute and group IV NaOCl 0, 5% for 5 minutes. Post Decontamination of Buccal Tube and bonding shear strength was carried out using Universal Testing Machine. The Kruskal Wallis test was carried out to see the differences in the four groups in the shear strength of attachment and the Mann Whitney test to find out the differences between groups. Result: The shear strength of the attachment by decontamination using 2% chlorhexidine for 1 minute was higher than the other 3 groups, which was 25.3 J/mm2, the lowest shear strength was for the 0.5% sodium hypochlorite group for 5 minutes, which was 16.5 J/mm2. Kruskal Wallis test results p value 0.000 (p

Background: Candida albicans is main cause of fungal infections in denture users. Prevention is needed by soaking dentures using a disinfectant. Chitosan is an alternative disinfectant emulsion because it is biodegradable, biocompatible, and does not cause discoloration. This research objective is to determine the effect of chitosan emulsion on the number of C.albicans on base plate thermoplastic nylon. Method: This is a true experimental study using post-test only design by using 25 base plates divided into 5 groups namely treatment I, treatment II, treatment III, positive and negative control. Plate was incubated in C.albicans suspension for 24 hours in McFarland and 10-3 series dilution. The plates was rinsed with aquadest, then soaked with 0.3% chitosan emulsion, 0.8% chitosan emulsion, 2% chitosan emulsion, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate, and aquadest for 15 minutes. The attached C.albicans colony in the plate was released to the SDB by using centrifuge device, then proliferated on the SDA and incubated (24 hours). The results of the C.albicans colony were counted visually by using a colony counter. The number of Candida albicans colonies data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and then Post Hoc Tukey HSD test. Result: The results showed that there were significant mean differences between each group (p

Background: Drug trafficking in the world affects the country and spread to all levels of Indonesian society. Methamphetamine, marijuana, and heroin are the most commonly abused drugs. Drugs cause a lot of bad effects, including the oral cavity. Results of Health Research on the Impact of Drug Abuse in 2019, as many as 64.1% of them experienced dental problems and 60.1% of oral cavity disorders. The risk of periodontal disease in drug users is higher than non-users. Objective: To determine the effect of the use of methamphetamine, marijuana, and heroin and the most influential drug users on the health of periodontal tissues. Methods: Using secondary data obtained through several e-databases, that are Pubmed Central (PMC), SpringerLink, and ResearchGate based on keywords and a predetermined time span. Discussion: Periodontal disease in drug users is related to xerostomia, oral hygiene, and immunosuppression. The high accumulation of calculus and plaque in drug users due to their low awareness of maintaining oral health and impaired motor function that makes it difficult for a person to clean his oral cavity. Comparison of Bleeding on Probing (BOP) and Clinical Attachment Loss (CAL) values were used as the main variables to show the parameters of periodontal tissue inflammation in each type of drug (methamphetamine, marijuana, and heroin). Conclusion: There was an effect of methamphetamine, marijuana, and heroin on the health of periodontal tissues including gingivitis and periodontitis. The heroin used by intravenous injection had the most effect on periodontal tissue health compared to methamphetamine and marijuana.

Background: Cephalometric analysis used in orthodontics to informs the diagnosis, treatment planning, quantifies changes during treatment, and provides data for clinical research. It has been used for determination of Skeletal Relations using facial hard tissue ANB Angle. Points A and B on the facial hard tissue correlate closely with the positions of the corresponding points on the soft tissue. This study aims to determine the relationship between the A'N’B angle of soft tissue and the ANB angle of hard tissue in determining the class of skeletal relations Method: The sample used in this study was 75 cephalograms, which had been selected according to the criteria. Cephalometric tracing is done manually. Inter-observer and intra-observer measurements were carried out to increase the validity and reliability of the research instrument. The Bland-Altman method is used as a statistical fit test. The results of the research data were then tested for normality with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. For further testing to test the significance of the correlation coefficient obtained in the Pearson test, the significance test of the t-test is used. Result: The results of t-count > t-table, which means that there is a strong linear relationship between hard tissue ANB and soft tissue A'N’B with a correlation coefficient (r) > 0.05. Conclusion: The soft tissue A'N'B' angle can be used as an alternative in determining the class of skeletal relationships in addition to the hard tissue ANB angle

Background: The pregnancy period is prone to various dental health conditions that can affect pregnant women’s health and cause growth and development problems for the fetus. Neglecting dental health during pregnancy causes complications at birth, including low birth weight. This study aims to determine the effect of dental health programs for pre-pregnancy women into low birth weight at Brati Public Health Center. Method: This research used secondary data from 80 women who participated in dental health programs for pre-pregnancy women and Antenatal Care (ANC) participants at Brati Health Center who were monitored until birth between January 2020 – June 2023. The data obtained was assessed in a questionnaire regarding the completeness of the dental health programs for pre-pregnancy women, consisting of education, examination, and dental care carried out before and after pregnancy. The data analysis used was the Mann Whitney test. Result: Pre-pregnancy women who completed the dental health programs had a higher average birth weight (3.095 kg) than those who did not complete the program (2.076 kg). Mann Whitney test result revealed an effect between the completeness of dental health programs on pre-pregnancy to birth weight (p=0.000). Conclusion The dental health programs for pre-pregnancy women affect the birth weight. Dental health programs for pre-pregnancy women should be carried out before pregnancy occurs, starting from the examination and education of the prospective bride. Collaboration between antenatal and dental health service providers is needed to increase access to dental prevention and treatment services needed by pre-pregnancy dan pregnant women.
