Abstract

Background: Digital panaromic radiograph is used to assist dentist in taking complete pictures of the oral cavity. ImageJ is a software application that helps assess the enamel density of permanent teeth. The density of permanent teeth enamel is influenced by many factors, including the consumption of milk given since infancy. Exclusive breastfeeding has a more complete content and rich of benefit than formula milk. The aim of this study is to determine the enamel density of permanent teeth by using a panaromic radiograph technique with ImageJ application to children aged 6-9 years who were given exclusive breastfeeding and formula milk.Method: This is an analytic observational study using a retrospective cohort approach. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling and obtained 23 respondents with panaromic radiographs of children aged 6-9 years consisting of 10 children consuming formula milk and 13 children consumingexclusive breastfeeding. The enamel density was assessed using ImageJ application. The data was analyzed statistically using Man-Whitney comparative testResult: The results reveal that there was difference in the permanent teeth enamel density between children aged 6-9 years who consumed exclusive breastfeeding and formula milk which showed p value of 0,021.Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the type of milk has an effect on the enamel density of permanent teeth and children who consume exclusive breastfeed milk have a higher permanent teeth enamel density

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: A panoramic radiograph can be classified as a good image (acceptable) for diagnosis examination if it has good quality image including no artefacts. The shape and size of artefact will affect the accuracy of diagnosis in a disease or disorder. This study aimed to determine the quality of digital panoramic radiographs in terms of artefacts at hospitals in the city of Semarang. This was a descriptive and observational study. This study was conducted at three Radiology Installations of Semarang Hospital, namely Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Tugurejo Hospital, and Dr. Karyadi Hospital. Patients’ identities were not disclosed to protect the privacy of the patient. The population consisted of 1305 radiographs, and 77 radiographs were taken for each installation in DICOM/JPEG format and adjusted to the check list. Observations were made by interobserver and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that there were artefacts in the form of small spots (ɵ<10mm) that did not interfere with the diagnosis by 25.2%, spots with small size (<10mm) and interfered with the diagnosis by 0.65%, small size earrings that did not interfere with the diagnosis by 0.33%. In conclusion, artefacts on digital panoramic radiographs at Semarang City Hospital were as many as 26.1%. It is expected that all hospitals will be able to evaluate the quality of the radiographic results, especially in terms of artefacts, to increase the accuracy of diagnosis. Abstract

Backgrounds: Odontomas often occur at a young age and are found incidentally in disturbed tooth eruptions, mostly intraosseous lesions. Compound odontomas have been identified as small tooth-like structures known as denticles. An accurate diagnosis of odontoma cannot be made on clinical examination. The majority of odontoma diagnoses have been made by radiographic examination. Odontoma often occurs unilaterally in one area with a single or multiple numbers, in this case, several areas have been found in the maxilla. The purpose of this case report is the radiographic evaluation of compound odontomas using panoramic radiographs and 3D Cone Beam CT. Case reports: A 12 years old female patient with her mother came to the orthodontist with the main complaint of crowding teeth and wanted treatment. On examination, an inflammation appeared on the palate behind the left RA lateral incisor. There was no history of trauma to the orofacial area. There was no family history of unerupted teeth or hypodontia and nothing relevant medical history. The orthodontist referred the patient for a panoramic radiograph and CBCT examination. Results: The results of the panoramic radiograph examination have showed radiopaque images resembling denticles in several regions, was made the case has been interesting to appoint in this case report, and this result was confirmed by the results of the CBCT examination which can show the location, number, and size of denticles in this patient.
