Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing students' debating skills. The research employs a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consists of 115 students from Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. Data were collected through debate skill tests and analyzed using prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) and hypothesis testing (t-test). The results reveal that the experimental group, which utilized AI-based platforms, demonstrated a significant improvement in debating skills compared to the control group employing conventional methods. The posttest mean score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, with a probability level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings confirm the effectiveness of AI in improving students' debating skills, particularly in argumentation, information management, and idea delivery. This study offers valuable contributions to technology-based pedagogy, especially in teaching speaking skills. Recommendations include further development of AI platforms to support other learning activities.

Abstract

This study examines the phonological characteristics of the lexicon of the Brebes Javanese dialect used in the Sunda border region, with Standard Javanese (Jogja-Solo). The purpose of the study was to identify the phonological differences in variation that emerge from the standard language and to analyze the factors that influence these variations. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with informants who met certain criteria. The results of the study showed that the Brebes Javanese dialect has several different phonological characteristics compared to standard Javanese, occurring in the more open vowel [a], neutralization of vowels [i] and [u], and reduction of retroflex consonants [ʈ] and [ɖ] to [t] and [d]. In addition, a syllable stress pattern was also found compared to Standard Javanese. Factors such as geographical isolation, the influence of neighboring languages ​​(Banyumas and Sundanese), and natural phonological changes also contribute to these differences. These findings provide an important contribution to the understanding of dialect diversity in Javanese and efforts to preserve regional languages ​​in Indonesia. This study also recommends the need for further study of the impact of globalization on phonological changes in Javanese dialect.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi kekuasaan dalam tuturan dosen selama proses pembelajaran di Jurusan Teknik Mesin Politeknik Negeri Semarang dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiopragmatik dan metode analisis wacana kritis. Penelitian ini menelaah bentuk-bentuk tuturan dosen yang mencerminkan kekuasaan serta konteks sosial yang melatarbelakanginya. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif dan rekaman interaksi kelas dan wawancara semi terstruktur, lalu dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuasaan dosen direpresentasikan melalui lima jenis tindak tutur utama, yaitu: direktif (mengatur tindakan mahasiswa secara langsung), deklaratif (menetapkan aturan dan konsekuensi), representatif (menegaskan otoritas epistemik), ekspresif (mengelola emosi dan norma moral), dan komisif (menyampaikan komitmen sebagai bentuk negosiasi). Kelima jenis tindak tutur tersebut mencerminkan dinamika kekuasaan yang bersifat fungsional, situasional, dan dialogis dalam interaksi kelas vokasional. Studi ini menegaskan pentingnya kesadaran pragmatik dosen dalam mengelola relasi kekuasaan untuk menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang inklusif dan efektif.

Abstract

The development of E-LKPD for news text in class VII junior high school is an implementation of integrating technology with learning that can be utilized in meaningful and flexible learning activities, especially assessment. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D research model. This research used several data collection techniques, including: interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The test subjects of this study were students of class VII-B at SMPN 7 Bangkalan, totaling 5 people in the small group test and totaling 26 people in the large group test, as well as five expert validators of E-LKPD feasibility. The output of this E-LKPD development is in the form of an application that has been validated by five validators. The percentage obtained from: (1) content feasibility validation is 96.66%; (2) language feasibility validation is 95%; (3) presentation feasibility validation is 82.85%; (4) graphic feasibility validation is 93.33%; and (5) construct feasibility validation is 88.57%. Then, the results of the learner response questionnaire test obtained a score of 87.65% in the small group test and 83.27% in the large group test with a very feasible caterogy to be used in learning.

Abstract

This study analyzes the translation of yellow books at the Shirotul Fuqoha' Gondanglegi Islamic Boarding School, Malang, with a focus on syntactic challenges. A qualitative approach is used through observation and text analysis to understand and analyze the phenomenon of yellow book translation at the Shirotul Fuqoha' Gondanglegi Islamic Boarding School, Malang. The data obtained will be analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques with a focus on syntax. The researcher pays attention to elements such as subjects, predicates, objects, and the use of conjunctions in both languages. The results of the study indicate that the main challenge lies in the differences in sentence structure, the use of conjunctions, and word order between Arabic and Indonesian. This study emphasizes the importance of understanding the syntax of both languages in translation so that the translation results remain accurate and contextual.

Abstract

Language functions not only as a means of communication but also as a persuasive and expressive tool capable of influencing people's mindsets and attitudes. One powerful manifestation of language utilization is in demonstration posters, which are often imbued with denotative and connotative meanings. This study aims to analyze these types of meanings in a demonstration poster titled "Dark Indonesia" that went viral on social media in February 2025. The approach used was qualitative with descriptive methods, where data from 15 posters were analyzed based on Abdul Chaer's semantic theory. The results showed that 10 posters contained connotative meanings, while the other 5 contained denotative ones. Connotative meanings tend to be used to convey social criticism emotionally and persuasively, while denotative meanings emphasize straightforward presentation of facts. These findings indicate that demonstration posters function not only as a medium for criticism but also have potential as contextual teaching materials in Indonesian language learning, particularly in writing argumentative texts in grade 11. Therefore, the results of this study are relevant in the form of teaching materials to improve students' critical thinking and argumentative skills through language analysis in real contexts.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the forms of language variation that emerge in TikTok live broadcasts selling thrifted (second-hand) goods, specifically clothing. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data source comprises several TikTok accounts that specialize in selling thrifted clothes, with the data consisting of utterances from the hosts and comments from consumers. Data was collected using a non-participatory observation method with note-taking techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the contextual method (metode padan), where language phenomena are explained by extralinguistic factors. The results of the analysis are presented informally using plain-word descriptions. The findings show that the language variations can be classified into two main forms: lexicon formation processes and brand name disguise. The lexicon formation processes include vocalic or consonantal modification, reduplication, abbreviation, and affixation. Meanwhile, brand name disguise is achieved through phonological modification and descriptions based on logo association. The emergence of this vocabulary variety serves four main functions: to comply with the platform's code of conduct, to create distinctive forms of expression, as a marketing strategy, and to build buyer commitment.
