Abstract

Abstract. A meteorological prespective to analyze the Thunderstorm forecasting in Jakarta has been done. The principal indices to be adapted in a fishpond were also arranged in the study. Storms in Jakarta, so-called as Ordinary Cell Thunderstorms, are frequently arose in the afternoon, particularly during transition period on March-May and September-November in which many of them are triggered by different in surface heating. The latter emerged to an atmospheric instability and force the air parcel to rise through the atmosphere. RAOB was employed to the forecasting of Thunderstorm. A number of such indices as K and Showalter indices as well as CAPE are produced and applied to forecast the conditional instability of the troposphere. The result showed that the extension of inversion layer in ~500–300 hPa implied the shrink of humidity and might strength the convective instability. In addition, the higher amount of CAPE proved the maximum velocity of updraft which lead to a strong convection and vertical wind shear during Thunderstorm in Jakarta. On the other hand, based on the storm indices, three principal indices adapted in a fishpond were also arranged i.e. normal, moderate and risk condition.Keywords. Abstract

Abstract. This study examined the selectivity of ethyl acetate extract of putat air (Barringtonia racemosa) in controlling Pomacea canaliculata compared to local catfish (Clarias batrachus). Five concentration of putat air (25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 ppm) with triplicate were tested in this study. The powder of putat air kernel was extracted through increasing the polarity of solvent, i.e. dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The mortality data were analyzed using Trimmed Spearman Karber (TSK) program version 1.5. The selectivity value was calculated based on LC50 values obtained from TSK. The results showed that (1) LC50 values of putat air's kernel extract of putat air to P. canaliculata and C. batrachus were 25.00 and 87.06 ppm, respectively, (2) the selectivity value of putat air's kernel extract as molluscicide of P. canaliculata was 3.48. Key words: Pomacea canaliculata, local catfish (Clarias batrachus), putat air (Barringtonia racemosa).

Abstract

Abstract. This research examines the influence of ENSO (El Niño and Southern Oscillation) in the Malacca Strait with the southern oscillation index using the Pacific Ocean in determining the condition of Normal, El Niño and La Nina as the analysis of mass transpor of sea water, sea surface elevation and the density of the sea. The research methods using the Navier-Stokes equations with force generating tides, winds from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Year 1980- 007, salinity(Levitus and Boyer, 1994a) and temperature (Levitus and Boyer, 1994b). Equations of motion of the sea water were modeled with the model of Hamburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM). The results show that the transport in northwestern part of the Malacca Strait is lower, but in the southeastern part is stronger compared to that of in Normal and La Nina events. While in Sea Level Elevation at El Niño event is lower compared to that of in Normal and La Nina events. For sea surface density, the density values are 18.5 s/d 20.5 kg/m3 while for the later 30-50 m, the values are 19-21 kg/m3. Sea surface density and density for layer 30-50 m in th southeastern part of Malacca Strait for El Niño events are higher than that of in normal and La Nina event. Key words: Sea level elevation, sea density and Hamsom model

Abstract

Abstract. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the distribution of sediments in the estuary of Kuala Gigieng. The study was done on Mei to June 2011 and the sampling was conducted in three areas of estuary i.e. downestuarine, middle-estuarine and river section of Kuala Gigieng. The wet sieving analysis method was used in this study. The data was then weighed and the percentage was calculated and classified based on the Wentworth scale. The results showed that (1) the mean grain size of sediment of each area was 0.50 mm, 0.65 mm and 0.56 mm and the characteristically, the sediment distribution was consisted of medium sand 63.42%, fine sand 23.40%, coarse sand 5.59%, very fine sand-mud 4.13% and pebble 0.17%. The currents speed were 0.25 m/s, 0.23 m/s and 0.19 m/s. The current speed has influenced the sediment distribution where small grains were mostly found at higher current speed. Key words. Abstract

Abstract. This study presents an economic analysis of tiger and humpback grouper at different production scales in Indonesia. The results highlight the nonviability of small scale tiger grouper, with a 5 years projected negative cumulative cash flow of – Rp. 18.102.650 and a negative net present value (NPV) of – Rp. 22.059.576. An increasing production scale of tiger grouper highlight a marginal viability for medium scale (with a 5 year projected cumulative cash flow of Rp. 198.320.673 and a positive NPV of Rp. 105.578.440; with a benefit cost ratio of 1,25; an internal rate of return (IRR) of 88%; and a payback period of 0,99 year), and an economically viable of large scale cage culture (with a 5 year projected cumulative cash of Rp. 707.746.923; a NPV of Rp.406.801.749; a benefit cost ratio of 1,33;an internal rate of return of 157%;and a payback period of 0,57 year). The economic analysis of humpback grouper atdifferent production scales highlight positive cumulative cash, a positive NPV,a benefit cost ratio higher than 2, an internal rate of return over 300% and apayback period of less than one year. A sensitivity analysis revealed thatincreased survival rate up to 80% would increase cumulative cash and NPV ofsmall scale tiger grouper cage culture. Additionally, improved profitabilityperformance was associated with decreased major production costs, increasedproduction and price of the product.
