Abstract

Abstract. The objective of this research was to study the influence of salinity and buoyancy on hatchability of milkfish eggs (Chanos-chanos). The completely random design was used this study. Two factors i.e. salinity and buoyancy were tested where the salinity with three levels oncentration; 16, 23 and 30 ppt, while the buoyancy with three egg buoyancy categories i.e. floating, drifting and sinking with three replicates respectively. The result showed that the hatchability of floating eggs in tested salinities were 76,7% ; 78,75% ; 91,7%, for 16, 23 and 30 ppt, respectively. Then drifting eggs were 65,3%; 67,0%; 77,0% and sinking eggs were 54,0% ; 55,3% ; 65,0% for 16, 23 and 30 ppt, respectively. In generally, the hatchability was increased with increasing of salinity. In addition, the hatchability of the floating eggs was higher than the sinking eggs. Keyword: Salinity, buoyancy, hatchability, milkfish.

Abstract

Abstract. Herbivory reef fish is the most important of fish tropic group in the coral reef ecosystem.Hence, the objective of this study was to provide reliable data and information on herbivory reef fish based on management types in the northern Acehnese reef. Underwater Visual Census Techniques was used to collect the data at 20 sites around Weh Island and Aceh Besar. This study found 32 herbivory reef fishes species from five families in northern Acehnese reef. Densities of herbivory reef fish were varied from 27 to 104 ind./transect,while species numbers were also varied from 6 to 14 species/site. Family Acanthuriidae was the highest in species number, i.e. 19 species. Densities of herbivory reef fish in sites that were protected under the management authority of Sabang Weh Island were not significantly higher compare with sites from open access areas. Abstract

Abstract. Waters of the east coast of Bangka Regency has higher potency for development of mariculture livelihood. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used to determine the suitable location for these activities. Spatial analysis on every measured parameters were conducted and then its overlay to determine the feasibility of locations. The suitability location was categorized into four levels i.e very suitable, moderately suitable, suitable with conditions, and not suitable. The results showed that there are at least 127,746 ha of areas have potency for mariculture location, of these 122,950 ha (96.25%) are very suitable and suitable, while 4796 ha (3.75%) are moderately suitable for fish farming. However, based on field verification, about 8.627 ha of areas are recommended for fish mariculture developement, this is situated at Pulau Ketawai Island, Pulau Panjang dan Pulau Bujur.Key Words : Geographic Information Systems, overlay, fish, mariculture, and cage

Abstract

Abstract. The study of the lenght weight relationships and condition factors of the brackiswater fishes found in Kuala Gigeng was conducted. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the growth pattens and condition factor of the belanak (Mugil cephalus), seriding (Ambassis koopsii) and petek (Leiognathus fasciatus). The sampling was conducted for eight time on July 2011 by using gillnet and castnet. The results showed that the belanak (M. cephalus) and seriding (A. koopsii) have allometric negative growth patten, while the petek (L. fasciatus) has an allometric positive. In addition, the relative weight condition factor's was higher than 100. And the Fulton's condition factor were not different significantly among fishes. Indicating the condition of the Kuala Gigeng is relatively in good condition and support fish growth as well.Keywords. Abstract

Abstract. The objective of present study was to study the diversity of macrozoobenthos in Kuala Gigieng estuary, Aceh Besar. The study was conducted in June 2011. The random sampling method was used to determine the area and sampling points based on tidal activities. Samples were taken with the Eckmann grab, then identified at Marine Biological Laboratory of Marine Science Department. The results showed that there were three class of macrozoobenhos (Malacostraca, Gastropoda, and bivalves) within 12 species of makrozoobenthos occured in Kuala Gigieng. The Shannon-Wienner diversity index (H') at high tide, mean sea level, and low tide were 1.26, 1.446, and 1.892, respectively, and it was categorized as low level. Keywords. Abstract

Abstract. A meteorological prespective to analyze the Thunderstorm forecasting in Jakarta has been done. The principal indices to be adapted in a fishpond were also arranged in the study. Storms in Jakarta, so-called as Ordinary Cell Thunderstorms, are frequently arose in the afternoon, particularly during transition period on March-May and September-November in which many of them are triggered by different in surface heating. The latter emerged to an atmospheric instability and force the air parcel to rise through the atmosphere. RAOB was employed to the forecasting of Thunderstorm. A number of such indices as K and Showalter indices as well as CAPE are produced and applied to forecast the conditional instability of the troposphere. The result showed that the extension of inversion layer in ~500–300 hPa implied the shrink of humidity and might strength the convective instability. In addition, the higher amount of CAPE proved the maximum velocity of updraft which lead to a strong convection and vertical wind shear during Thunderstorm in Jakarta. On the other hand, based on the storm indices, three principal indices adapted in a fishpond were also arranged i.e. normal, moderate and risk condition.Keywords. Abstract

Abstract. This study examined the selectivity of ethyl acetate extract of putat air (Barringtonia racemosa) in controlling Pomacea canaliculata compared to local catfish (Clarias batrachus). Five concentration of putat air (25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 ppm) with triplicate were tested in this study. The powder of putat air kernel was extracted through increasing the polarity of solvent, i.e. dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The mortality data were analyzed using Trimmed Spearman Karber (TSK) program version 1.5. The selectivity value was calculated based on LC50 values obtained from TSK. The results showed that (1) LC50 values of putat air's kernel extract of putat air to P. canaliculata and C. batrachus were 25.00 and 87.06 ppm, respectively, (2) the selectivity value of putat air's kernel extract as molluscicide of P. canaliculata was 3.48. Key words: Pomacea canaliculata, local catfish (Clarias batrachus), putat air (Barringtonia racemosa).
