Abstract

This research aims at identifying the measures that EFL teachers take to minimize learners’ anxiety in English learning at MA Arifah Indonesia particularly from the aspect of anxiety and second language acquisition. The study adopted a concurrent triangulation design in which quantitative data was collected from the questionnaires while qualitative data was collected from interviews. The study shows that anxiety arising from fear of negative evaluation, communication apprehension, and test, hurts the students’ performance in speaking activities and academic achievement. Most of the students benefited from approaches adopted by the teacher such as behaviour modification and support from classmates and Gradualiliarly Increasing the Task Difficulty. But as the results of the students’ feedback reveal, it is not enough for the students, especially those with higher levels of anxiety, to employ these methods; therefore, they require other kinds of interventions, including practices based on mindfulness. The study also brings out the impact of worry on test performance, and there is a need to analyse the existing strategies of assessments to provide for the worried students. Such results suggest that EFL education needs to be more comprehensive to include psychological intervention into learners’ mental state and teaching methods that are best suited for these learners in order to introduce change for a better learning environment.

Abstract

A portrayal of pedagogical, motivational and resource dilemmas that hinder students in the acquisition of English language is discussed in this study. The study shows that students hardly bothered to learn English because they do not see any relevance of the language to their future professions. This is made worse by conventional theories which have insisted on mechanical language acquisition, memorization, drilling for grammar rules and structures without the development of communicative efficiency, and lack of instruction based on the individual learning abilities of the learners. Also, extreme scarcity of resources such as the English texts and technological facilities sufficiently affect opportunities of student language practice beyond the classroom. The study suggests that it is necessary to use more comprehensive approaches for overcoming these challenges such as changes is curricular in order to align it to English and students and their career needs, using more communicative and interactive methods, and supporting teachers for the implementation of differentiation. The study brings out important information that aligns well with other research done on language education especially in the developing countries so a policy maker or a practitioner you will find useful information to act on.

Abstract

The demand for technology supports and engaging students in their second language beyond the classroom has caused an uptrend of using technology media, especially short videos on social media. In this current investigation, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) research approach is used in order to analyse the features, prospects, pitfalls, and approaches connected with social media, short video use in grasping English language. Altogether, the observations indicate that the students improve their language proficiency vocabulary and speaking and listening as they watch short videos on the apps like TikTok and Instagram Reels. However, there are problems in the integration of these tools such as issues concerning the content accuracy, distraction, and the inconsistency in educational content used. The paper also underscores significant responsibility of teachers in selecting and presenting quality content, as well as developing learners’ digital competencies to realise necessary learning affordances of these technologies. In overcoming these challenges, educators are in a better position to assist the students to overcome the challenges and use the short videos for learning a language. The results also present hypotheses for further research: the outcomes of the study also indicate the conditions under which the number of videos will give the best result and possible long-term effects of its using on the language achievement.

Abstract

This research aims at assessing the impact of Cake application developed and used as a MALL platform in increasing the university students’ abilities to speak English fluently. In this study, the quasi-experimental design was adopted and the participants were 100 in number and divided into two groups; the experimental group that used Cake application and the control group that followed the traditional curriculum without the application. The Speaking Proficiency Assessment Framework (SPAF) was used to pre-test and post-test Speaking skills with focus on pronunciation, fluency, lexical resource, and communicative competence. The scores highlighted significant enhancement of the level of speaking in the experimental group, the size of which substantiated as rather large, proving the efficacy of the given intervention in the context of its practical application. The distribution analysis revealed that the scores are distributed less variable in the posttest of the experimental group than in the pretest, which suggests the likelihood that the Cake application was beneficial in augmenting performance while assisting students with lower and higher initial proficiency levels. Such perspectives point towards the ability of the MALL tools in the delivery of education especially to those in need.

Abstract

The objectives of this systematic review are as follow: to identify and evaluate integration of digital technologies into the teaching and learning of English language and to compare it with traditional non-digital methods. The study conducted in this paper used systematic literature review. This study used structured approach. Research on the impact of digital technology tools on enhancing language learning, with the use of AI-assisted learning applications, learning through mobile devices, game-based learning application. Based on the current literature review, educational technology offers significant advantage including, individualized learning instructions, content, real interaction, and the ability of gaining pragmatic experience in realistic virtual contexts. However, some of the current concerns which are still a thorny issue are the lack of access to digital technologies in homes and schools, the need for faculty development and the costs of leveraging technologies. The outcome of this study shows that digital innovations play a significant role in improving language learning and therefore lessons learnt should be applied affirmatively using the technologies alongside other conventional methods. Being a blend of the formal and the informal modes of learning methodologies this hybrid approach could lead to better language learning outcomes as compared to formal or technology-based approaches.
