Abstract

The Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) plays a strategic role in ensuring that Islamic insurance products and operations comply with Sharia principles. This article aims to analyze the role of DPS in overseeing and implementing Sharia compliance in Islamic insurance, the challenges faced, and solutions to enhance the effectiveness of supervision. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method with a literature review approach. The findings indicate that DPS plays a crucial role as a Sharia compliance supervisor and policy controller within an Islamic insurance company. However, challenges remain, such as the lack of competent and independent human resources, which can hinder the optimal implementation of Sharia compliance. Therefore, strengthening regulations and improving competencies are necessary to enhance Sharia compliance within the Islamic insurance industry.

Abstract

Investment is important in supporting the country's economic growth, economic growth is determined by savings and investment. If savings and investment are low, economic growth is also low. This research is motivated by the fact that the number of Foreign Investors (PMA) in Indonesia is always more than the number of Domestic Investors (PMDN). This means that people's interest in investing in Indonesia is still low compared to other countries. In this case, lecturers are considered to meet saving behavior, have knowledge about the importance of investment and money management. However, the reality is that there are still many lecturers who do not have investment and are not even interested in investing. Then, in previous research on investment interest, there were also inconsistencies in results. Thus, the purpose of this study is to find out the factors that affect investment interest with return  expectations as a moderation variable. This study uses a quantitative approach with  the Structural Equation Model (SEM) Method and  the Partial Least Square (PLS) alternative.  The data used are primary data obtained from questionnaires. The research population is lecturers of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business using a saturated sample of 52 people. The results of this study show that investment knowledge has a positive and significant effect on investment interest. Then, technological advances do not have a significant effect on investment interest. Furthermore, return expectations  moderate the influence of investment knowledge on investment interest. Return expectations  do not moderate the influence of technological advances on investment interest.

Abstract

One of the financial instruments in Islamic banking is the rahn (pawn) contract, which enables individuals to obtain funds by pledging valuable assets in accordance with Sharia principles, without involving interest (riba). The aim of this contract is to prevent usury, especially among the lower-middle-class community, and to offer a more equitable financing alternative. In a rahn contract, the person pledging the asset is referred to as rahin, while the lender is known as murtahin. The pledged asset, called marhun, must be movable and possess value. In case of the debtor's default, the Islamic financial institution, acting as murtahin, has the right to sell the pledged asset. Sharia requirements such as ijab qabul (offer and acceptance) and clarity regarding the loan amount and repayment method ensure the contract's validity. Fatwas from institutions like the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) serve as guiding principles. Practically, the rahn contract provides the community with quick and secure financing. However, a lack of understanding and limited resources present challenges to its development. Therefore, acquiring knowledge of the rahn contract is essential to ensure its benefits for society. By adhering to Sharia principles, the rahn contract not only offers financial solutions but also contributes to the country's economic growth. Consequently, the Islamic financial system has the potential to integrate religious principles with contemporary economic practices in a fair and sustainable manner.

Abstract

As digitalization develops in Indonesia, Pegadaian Syariah is undergoing significant transformation. This study investigates the opportunities and challenges of Pegadaian Syariah in maintaining sharia principles and enhancing financial inclusion through digital innovation. Low digital literacy in the community, regulatory constraints, and competition with conventional financial institutions are the main challenges. These constraints limit the effectiveness of using services, such as the digital Pegadaian Syariah application, which is designed to make transactions easier. Digitalization, this opens up great opportunities, such as expanding services to remote areas, increasing operational efficiency, and supporting the empowerment of small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through productive financing. Pegadaian Syariah can increase public trust and knowledge about sharia-based services by implementing cross-sector collaborative strategies and digital education. The descriptive method is used in this research to provide a comprehensive overview of how Pegadaian Syariah has been adapted to the current times. By optimally utilizing current technology, Pegadaian Syariah has the opportunity to become a pioneer in the digitalization of Islamic finance in Indonesia.
