Abstract

This article aims to uncover the emergence of various streams of Arabic literature during the Al-Nahda period along with the phenomena that underlie it. This research is a literature review study that uses descriptive analysis methods. The results of this research indicate that the revival of Arabic literature from its decline marks the beginning of the modern period. The turning point occurred when Napoleon Bonaparte's expansion reached Egypt in 1798, providing Egypt with the opportunity to come into contact with Western culture. One of the impacts of this meeting is on the development of Arabic literature. The development of Arabic literature is inseparable from this phenomenon, certainly with characteristics and traits that distinguish it. Arabic literature underwent a transformation that distinguishes it from previous periods. In the Modern phase, various movements emerged in Arabic literature in succession. The emergence of this movement is due to criticisms of the literary models that came before it or to refine the movements that emerged in earlier times. This article will focus on three movements: Neo-Classical, Romanticism, and Realism.

The author discusses how Hughes enlightened other Black African-American writers, such as Maya Angelou and Amiri Baraka, to express freedom through their literary works. Abstract

Parenting style is something that is close to us in our daily lives, and it is because of this that we have become the person we are today. A parenting style from parents to their children can affect the development of the child’s personality and emotions in their process towards adulthood. The purpose of this study is to see how Coraline’s personality is affected by the different parenting styles between real parents and ‘other parents’. This study uses New Criticism as an approach to analyze the characterization and plot of the story and therefore examines how Coraline’s personality is affected by the different parenting styles between the real parents and the 'other parents'. Therefore, the method used in this study is descriptive-qualitative. The results of this study found that the personality of Coraline was formed because of parenting styles from her parents and Coraline's emotions change depending on what her parents gave.

Abstract

This study examines how Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde reflects Victorian anxieties surrounding misuse of scientific discoveries. The novels follow Dr. Henry Jekyll, a respected physician who creates a potion to unleash his darker self in the form of the monstrous Edward Hyde. Using a historical-biographical approach and qualitative analysis, this study draws on primary data from novels supported by secondary sources including literary criticism and journal articles. The findings reveal that Stevenson addresses Victorian fears of unchecked scientific progress through Dr. Jekyll’s experiments, the societal reactions to Mr. Hyde and the depiction of Jekyll’s hubris, which ultimately highlight the era’s concerns about the ethical limits of science.
