Abstract

Paving blocks are one of the construction materials used as surface coverings, particularly in pedestrian areas, yards, and local roads. In this study, paving blocks were produced by utilizing rice husk ash (RHA) as an additive in the mixture. The use of rice husk ash was chosen due to its high silica content and its potential as an environmentally friendly pozzolanic material. The objective of this research is to determine the compressive strength of paving blocks with variations in rice husk ash content. The mixture variations used were 0%, 6%, and 12% of the total cement weight, with thicknesses of 6 cm and 8 cm, respectively. The compressive strength and porosity tests were conducted at 28 days in accordance with SNI 03-0691-1996. The results showed that the best compressive strength and porosity were obtained in the 0% RHA mixture, reaching 10.99 MPa, compared to the 6% and 12% RHA mixtures. The addition of rice husk ash tended to decrease the compressive strength of the paving blocks due to the increase in porosity, although at certain variations it still met the quality category D according to the SNI standard.

Abstract

In the construction world, foundation work is one of the most important elements of a building structure. Foundations serve to safely and stably transfer the load from the superstructure to the ground. In this study to calculate the bearing capacity of pile foundations using the Schmertmann & Nottingham method and the Guy Sanglerat method using sondir data obtained based on the sondir data of Soil Bearing Capacity using the Schmertmann & Nottingham method on sondir 2, namely qu = 176.8 qa = 58.93, Single Pile Foundation Bearing Capacity using the Schmertmann & Nottingham method on sondir 2, namely Qa = 51.581, Guy Sanglerat Method, namely Qa = 26.821, and the bearing capacity value of the 4-pile foundation group of the Schmertmann & Nottingham method Qa = 123.794, Guy Sanglerat Method Qa = 82.994, the bearing capacity value of the 5-pile foundation group of the Schmertmann & Nottingham method, namely Qa = 129.984, Guy Sanglerat Method Qa = 87.143. In this study, the Schmertmann & Nottingham method produced the highest bearing capacity value at sondir 2 compared to the guy sanglerat method

Abstract

The current increase in the number of vehicles owned by the public is not in line with the growth of transportation infrastructure. This results in various problems, especially traffic congestion that is difficult for the government to overcome. In the Regency area, especially on the Trans-Sumatra Highway from Maria Island to Teluk Dalam. Market and educational activities in the area cause side obstacles that affect traffic flow. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of side obstacles and analyze their impact on the performance of the Maria Island - Teluk Dalam road. The study was conducted through a side obstacle survey to see traffic disruptions and a traffic volume survey to see the density of vehicles passing through the area. Calculations are based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines PKJI 2023 for out-of-town roads. The results show that the weight of the side obstacles that occurred on Monday/June 19, 2025 is included in the high side obstacle (ST) class with a total value of 251.6 incidents. The very high side obstacles on Monday occurred due to the large number of activities from pedestrians and pedestrians and vehicles entering and leaving the market. In contrast to Saturday and Sunday, which have the potential for moderate side obstacles, on Saturday the total value of incidents is 196 and on Sunday it is lower than Saturday with the total value of incidents reaching 171.2

Abstract

This study examines the effect of galvanization on the tensile strength of light steel widely used in civil construction. The zinc coating process (galvanization) on light steel aims to protect it from corrosion. Galvanization provides a protective zinc layer that prevents corrosion damage to the light steel. However, the high temperatures involved in galvanization can affect the mechanical properties of the steel. The research method involved tensile testing on C-profile light steel samples, both with and without galvanic coating. Test results showed that for light steel with a thickness of 0.45 mm, galvanization caused a 9.51% decrease in tensile strength. For steel with a thickness of 0.75 mm, tensile strength decreased by 6.54%. Meanwhile, for relatively thicker light steel at 1.00 mm, the tensile strength dropped by 2.65% compared to uncoated steel. This study confirms that while galvanization enhances corrosion resistance, it may reduce the mechanical performance of light steel, especially in thinner sections.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze parking characteristics and their impact on traffic performance on street HOS Cokroaminoto, Kisaran, Asahan Regency. This location is an area with quite high trade and culinary activities, so that the roadway is often used as a parking area. The problem that arises is the reduction in the effective width of the road which impacts the smooth flow of traffic. The research method used is a field survey approach by conducting direct observation of parking activities at three research locations. Data collected include the volume of vehicles entering and exiting, parking duration, parking accumulation, and parking turnover rate. The analysis was conducted using the guidelines of the Directorate General of Land Transportation (1996) and the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 34 of 2014 concerning parking management. The results of the study indicate that parking activities on Jalan HOS Cokroaminoto have not been optimally organized. The parking patterns used are mostly perpendicular (90°) for motorcycles and parallel for cars. The parking turnover rate is relatively low, indicating inefficient vehicle turnover and causing limited parking space. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that parking activity on street HOS Cokroaminoto has reduced road capacity and reduced traffic flow

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the geometric conditions and level of service (Level of Service/LOS) of sidewalks on Jalan Madong Lubis, Kisaran Timur District, Asahan Regency. Sidewalks are important facilities for pedestrians that function to provide safety, comfort, and smooth mobility. However, in the research area, sidewalks face various obstacles such as street vendors (PKL), illegal parking, and utilities that reduce their main function. The research method uses a descriptive quantitative approach with primary data collection through direct observation of sidewalk conditions and counting the number of pedestrians on several road segments for six days. Secondary data includes regulations and technical standards from the Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 03/PRT/M/2014 and the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) 1997. The analysis results show that the width of the sidewalk on Jalan Madong Lubis is only 1.3 meters, below the minimum standard of 1.5 meters. The level of service of sidewalks on segments A, B, and C is in category B to C, while segment D experienced a drastic decrease to LOS F because almost all of the sidewalk space is covered by street vendors. Physical obstacles and damaged surfaces contribute to reduced user comfort and safety. Recommendations are provided to improve the physical condition of sidewalks, regulate street vendor activity, and provide supporting facilities to enhance sidewalk service levels as safe and comfortable pedestrian spaces
