Abstract

This research aims to analyze the efficiency of steam consumption in the Dryer Section at the Paper Machine. The research method involves calculating the actual steam consumption efficiency and comparing it with the TAPPI efficiency standard. The research results show that the average steam consumption efficiency for grade W/FIPF35-70 reached 94.51%, exceeding the TAPPI standard of 86%. However, some observations indicate substandard results, which can be caused by factors such as raw material quality, process settings, and equipment wear. The conclusions of this research provide insight into the factors that influence steam consumption efficiency, providing a basis for improving performance in Dryer Section Paper Machine.

Abstract

Designing piping systems for laminar flow requires an understanding of pressure drop. Pressure drop can offer insights for selecting pipe materials, designing an efficient piping system, and choosing the appropriate elbows and fittings. Utilizing numerical simulations, the pressure drop in straight pipes, 45o bends, 90o bends, and 180o bends is examined. Velocity profiles for straight pipes and bends are compared, revealing the increase in pressure drop caused by the bend in comparison to the straight pipe. The numerical simulation results indicate that the bend results in an increased pressure drop in the pipe's flow.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) at PT XYZ, a pulp manufacturing company, to enhance product quality and operational efficiency. A case study method was used. Data on product defects were collected from PT XYZ and analyzed using three TQM tools: Check Sheets, Histograms, and Pareto Charts. The study also recommends integrating four additional tools for a more comprehensive approach. Among eight defect categories, the most common issue was the Torn Wrapper defect. February's defect rate (0.36%) exceeded the target of 0.30%, indicating room for process improvement. The analysis is limited to descriptive statistics without inferential testing. Future research should apply broader statistical tools and compare findings across multiple companies. This study offers insight into the practical application of TQM in a local pulp industry setting, contributing contextual knowledge to the field.

Abstract

Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) merupakan ketel uap yang memanfaatkan gas buang dari turbin gas untuk memanaskan air menjadi uap panas lanjut. Efisiensi HRSG dapat dihitung dengan cara membandingkan total aliran energi panas untuk menghasilkan uap dengan total aliran energi panas yang berasal dari keluaran turbin gas. Efisiensi tertinggi terjadi pada tanggal 21 Februari 2024 yaitu sebesar 88% dengan aliran energi yang dibutuhkan air menjadi uap panas lanjut sebesar 639241,9673 kJ/s dengan laju aliran gas buang turbin yang masuk pada HRSG sebesar 735455,2214 kJ/s. Efisiensi terendah terjadi pada tanggal 22 Februari 2024 yaitu sebesar 85% dengan aliran energi yang dibutuhkan air menjadi uap panas lanjut sebesar 621604,2948 kJ/s dengan aliran gas buang turbin yang masuk pada HRSG sebesar 730132,8416 kJ/s. Penelitian ini dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui nilai paling efektif dari sistem. Efisiensi yang tinggi menunjukkan penggunaan energi yang lebih efisien dan potensi penghematan energi yang lebih besar.

Abstract

PT. PERTAMINA Hulu Rokan Zone 1 Field Lirik is engaged in upstream activities including exploitation and production, with two districts producing 2,000 barrels per day. An important component in oil production is the pipeline network, which distributes various fluids suchas water, gas, and oil. This study assesses the remaining effective life of the LR 038 pipeline network and provides preventive recommendations to avoid damage to the pipeline network, thus optimizing oil processing operations and maintaining material integrity using direct observation and inspection methods in the field. The results obtained are the remaining pipe life of 19.9 years with a corrosion rate of 0.003 in years. Recommendations for periodic painting and inspection.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the operational efficiency of centrifugal pumps in the Raw Water Intake system at Station 3 Water 10 PT. Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper Perawang. The methodology used includes direct measurement of water discharge parameters, pressure, and electrical power using a flowmeter, pressure gauge, and clamp meter. Efficiency data is calculated using the standard pump efficiency formula. The results show that the actual pump efficiency is below the catalog efficiency, which is 52%, indicating the potential for energy loss or decreased pump performance. This study provides recommendations for maintenance and operational optimization to improve the efficiency of the pumping system. This study is useful for industrial engineering practitioners and facility management in improving energy efficiency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memvalidasi perhitungan sudut dan pergerakan mekanisme empat batang dengan menggunakan perangkat lunak AutoCAD. Mekanisme empat batang merupakan komponen penting dalam berbagai aplikasi rekayasa mekanik. Pendekatan penelitian ini mencakup langkah-langkah perhitungan teoritis/manual dan validasi visual menggunakan AutoCAD. Pada tahap perhitungan teoritis/manual, perpindahan sudut dan kecepatan sudut dihitung berdasarkan rumus dan metode yang ada. Langkah selanjutnya adalah melakukan validasi terhadap hasil perhitungan tersebut menggunakan AutoCAD. Dengan memanfaatkan AutoCAD, sudut-sudut yang dihasilkan dapat divisualisasikan secara jelas, termasuk koordinat titik A dan B dalam pergerakan mekanisme. Validasi dilakukan dengan membandingkan hasil perhitungan teoritis dengan hasil visualisasi pada AutoCAD. Proses ini memungkinkan peneliti untuk mengamati dengan akurat sudut dan posisi titik A dan B dalam pergerakan mekanisme. Dengan menggunakan AutoCAD sebagai alat validasi, kebenaran dan validitas perhitungan teoritis dapat diuji dan dikonfirmasi. Hasil validasi yang diperoleh melalui AutoCAD memastikan bahwa perhitungan sudut dan pergerakan mekanisme empat batang dapat dipercaya dan memiliki tingkat akurasi yang tinggi. Validitas ini sangat penting dalam memastikan keandalan dan keabsahan model mekanisme yang dikembangkan

Abstract

This paper discusses about calculation of the remaining life of shell course storage tank 610 - TK - 104 based on API standard 653 PT Pertamina International Refinery unit II. The purpose of this research is to identify the reliability of the tank by knowing the minimum thickness, corrosion rate, and remaining life of the tank. Tank reliability analysis based on API 653 is carried out so that the tank continues to be in a safe condition and can continue to operate, so that failures in the tank can be avoided. The tank is made of ASTM A283 Grade C material. The tank has a diameter and height of 95.374 ft and 53.90 ft. The service accommodated is Crude Oil and Specific Gravity 0.860. The tank is protected from Internal Film Thin Coating material. The research methods used include visual inspection, data collection and information related to tank specifications, reliability analysis of the tank. Based on the calculation, the remaining life of the tank obtained is in an unacceptable condition because it is < 10 years, so the solution that can be done is to reduce the maximum liquid level of the tank by 14.06 ft so that the tank can withstand pressure for a long time
