Abstract

This study aims to examine how school principals innovate in their leadership to improve the quality of Islamic education management in formal institutions. A qualitative research method was employed. Data were collected through a literature review, drawing from various sources, contexts, and approaches. The findings indicate that principals who effectively enhance the quality management of education are those who recognize themselves as leaders and are capable of managing the human resources within their institutions—such as teaching staff, students, and the entire academic community. Effective management of infrastructure and facilities in formal educational institutions is also essential. The study concludes that the role of leadership in formal educational institutions is crucial for improving Islamic education management. A leader must simultaneously fulfill multiple roles: as a leader, manager, supervisor, administrator, innovator, educator, and motivator.

Abstract

Boarding schools have long been recognized as effective in shaping the religious character of students. However, in the post-pandemic era of disruption, the managerial adaptation of these institutions has not yet been conceptually mapped out, resulting in value-building practices that tend to be partial and inconsistent. Previous research has primarily described religious routines and teacher role modeling, but has not offered a systematic management framework capable of integrating academic, spiritual, and technological innovation aspects. Therefore, this study aims to formulate a conceptual model of strategic educational management that is responsive to the challenges of value disruption in religious-based boarding schools. This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to academic publications and policy documents from the last five years (2020–2025), which are analyzed using content analysis techniques to identify patterns in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of religious character education strategies. The analysis resulted in an Adaptive-Integrative Management Model with four main dimensions: (1) structured program planning, (2) internalization of values through religious practices and role modeling, (3) creation of a holistic–spiritual boarding school environment, and (4) technology-based managerial responsiveness. This model contributes theoretically to the development of value-based educational management while providing practical recommendations for Islamic educational institutions to strengthen the continuous development of students' religious character in the era of disruption.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents significant opportunities to enhance the quality of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). However, the implementation of AI in value-based education faces various technical, pedagogical, and ethical challenges that impact its effectiveness and sustainability. This qualitative phenomenological study explores students’ perceptions of AI integration in PAI learning, focusing on their experiences, acceptance, and challenges encountered. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Bloom’s Taxonomy frameworks to understand acceptance levels and AI’s contribution to learning outcomes. Findings reveal that AI has the potential to support more personalized, adaptive, and interactive learning, especially at the cognitive and analytical stages. Nevertheless, the role of teachers and religious scholars remains essential in guiding spiritual aspects and value evaluation, positioning AI as a complementary tool rather than a replacement. Key challenges include overreliance, information validity, and ethical concerns, requiring adequate supervision and technology literacy. The study recommends AI integration grounded in Islamic values, involving religious experts, and curriculum development emphasizing critical thinking and originality. Thus, AI can become a strategic partner in creating relevant, humanistic, and ethical PAI learning in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the critical role of psychology in enriching the principles and practices of Islamic education. Rather than viewing psychology and religion as separate fields, this research highlights how psychological insights can complment Islamic values in promoting holistic human development. The qualitative descriptive approach was used to explore how psychological theories—particularly those related to learning, motivation, and emotional growth—can be adapted to Islamic educational contexts. Data were gathered through literature analysis and interviews with practitioners in both psychology and Islamic education. The findings reveal that when psychology is applied within an Islamic framework, it becomes a powerful tool to understand learners’ behavior, mental health, and spiritual needs. Such integration allows educators to address students not only as cognitive beings but also as moral and spiritual individuals. Moreover, it provides practical strategies for overcoming learning obstacles and fostering character development aligned with Islamic ethics. The study concludes that psychology, when harmonized with Islamic teachings, strengthens the educational process and supports the formation of well-balanced individuals. This implies a need for continuous dialogue between psychological sciences and Islamic pedagogy to build education systems that are both scientifically grounded and spiritually meaningful.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of reason (ʿaql) and revelation (naql) within the framework of traditional Islamic education. While modern science emphasizes empirical knowledge and rational inquiry, Islamic education has historically rooted itself in divine revelation and classical scholarship. The research investigates how traditional Islamic institutions can bridge these two epistemological domains, promoting a holistic educational model that nurtures both intellectual and spiritual growth. Using a qualitative approach, this study examines curriculum practices, pedagogical models, and educator perspectives to understand the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing scientific reasoning with religious values. The findings highlight that integration is not only possible but essential in shaping learners who are intellectually competent and spiritually grounded. This research contributes to the discourse on educational reform by proposing pathways for meaningful dialogue between faith-based traditions and contemporary knowledge systems.

Abstract

The curriculum of Islamic education with environmental insight through the eco-theology approach is a response to the global ecological crisis and ecological moral degradation. The main objective of this study is to formulate an integrative curriculum design between Islamic values and environmental awareness in the context of formal education. The method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through literature studies, documentation, and in-depth interviews with Islamic and environmental education experts. Data analysis was carried out thematically to identify relevant Islamic principles in forming ecological awareness. The results of the study show that the integration of the values of tauhid, amanah, and khalifah in the curriculum structure is able to form the character of students who care and are responsible for nature. This curriculum includes strengthening spiritual, cognitive, and social action competencies in contextual and transdisciplinary learning. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of updating the Islamic education curriculum that is responsive to environmental issues, not only as an additional aspect, but as the main framework for character formation and sustainability of life. Abstract

This literature study examines the management of character education implemented by Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani from the perspective of Islamic education management, as well as its relevance to the implementation of the Independent Curriculum based on deep learning. This study uses a qualitative approach through an in-depth literature study of the main works of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani and literature discussing Islamic education, Sufism, and education management. The results of the study indicate that character education developed by Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani is structured in four components of education management: planning based on tauhid and tazkiyatun nafs; organizing learning communities through science and dhikr assemblies; implementing learning that includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions; and supervision carried out spiritually through muhasabah and spiritual guidance. This concept is in line with the principle of deep learning in the Independent Curriculum which emphasizes character development, reflective interpretation of material, habituation of noble values, and student learning independence. The implications of this study show the importance of integration between Sufi values in Islamic education management with an in-depth learning approach in the Independent Curriculum, so that the formation of students' characters becomes more complete, has high reasoning power, and has noble morals according to the demands of the digital era.
