Abstract

As a developing country classified as low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the disparity in knowledge regarding hypertension and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) should be a concern for the government. Data from the 2018 Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) showed that the prevalence of hypertension in Central Kalimantan reached 34.47%, compared to 26.7% in the 2013 Riskesdas. The 2018 Riskesdas data also revealed that the prevalence of joint diseases in Central Kalimantan was 7.61%. Various factors such as socioeconomic status, dietary patterns, medication usage, and comorbidities can influence uric acid levels. In essence, achieving good health is a fundamental right for every individual, regardless of their economic and social status. However, in practice, healthcare services have not been able to reach the entire population of the country. To address this issue, Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA-UPR) conducted a community service in the form of free health examinations in Tumbang Tahai Subdistrict of Bukit Batu District in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. The research employed a descriptive method with a quantitative approach based on blood pressure, blood glucose, and uric acid examinations. The results showed that many residents are still experiencing hypertension, but most have normal blood glucose and uric acid levels.

Abstract

This study examines language use among Igbo cultural associations in Lagos state, with a view to identifying their language ideologies, language practices in their meetings and their language management strategies in their meetings. Spolsky's Family language Policy was used as guide. Out of the entire Igbo cultural associations in Lagos State, 25 Igbo cultural associations were purposively sampled. Information was collected through questionnaire and interviews. The result shows that members of Igbo cultural associations in Lagos State had a positive inclination towards Igbo as a language and as a people. In terms of language practice, they used only Igbo in their prayers, breaking of cola nut, and asking for assistance from the association. But, they used only English in writing of minutes, bye-laws, and meeting circular. However, they used code-switching involving Igbo and English during the session of matters arising. It was also found that, although they evinced an implicit language policy, their policy on language in their association was bilingual, involving only Igbo and English, and precluding any other native non-Igbo language. On the whole, although Igbo cultural associations in Lagos State had positive attitude and beliefs toward Igbo, they did not fully reflect it in actual practice during their meetings. It is recommended that Igbo cultural associations, irrespective of setting should endeavor to include the culture of writing all their documents in Igbo, as a deliberate means of safe-guarding the language. Additionally, they should have a monolingual policy in favor of Igbo in their meetings to ensure the vitality of the language in a wholly Igbo cultural setting.

Abstract

Sharenting is a new phenomenon resulting from the increased activity of social media users. Sharenting is an activity to share children’s activities and lives uploaded on social media. Sharenting activities negatively impact children because all types of activities uploaded on social media are not with the children’s approval. The research objective is to examine parents’ understanding of violations and protection of children’s privacy in sharenting practices on social media and to investigate violations committed by parents in sharenting activities. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with parent respondents who actively used Instagram social media and worked as local Purwakarta celebgrams. Data collection used observation and interviews and was analyzed by data reduction, presentation, and verification. The research results revealed that sharenting activities were often carried out by parents and were published on the Instagram social media platform for various reasons and motives. The sharenting practice was sharing videos and photos of daily life and the growth and development of children periodically. Sharenting activities were also carried out because parents did not understand the negative impact on children’s privacy and lacked insight into government regulations on children’s privacy rights violations.
