Abstract

Drug abuse poses a significant challenge to families and society, manifesting in various detrimental effects. Within families, substance abuse can lead to emotional distress, financial strain, and a breakdown of trust and relationships. It often results in neglect or abuse of children, creating an unstable home environment that hampers the psychological and emotional development of young family members. Additionally, drug abuse can lead to domestic violence and an increase in healthcare and legal issues for the family. On a societal level, drug abuse contributes to increased healthcare costs, loss of productivity, and higher crime rates. The burden on public health systems grows as more individuals require medical treatment for addiction and related health complications. Economically, businesses suffer from decreased productivity and higher absenteeism among employees who struggle with substance abuse. Crime rates tend to escalate as individuals may engage in illegal activities to fund their addiction, which strains law enforcement and judicial systems. Social services also face increased pressure as they work to support affected families and individuals. Efforts to combat drug abuse require comprehensive strategies that include prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. Support systems for families, improved access to mental health services, and community-based interventions are crucial to mitigating the impact of drug abuse. By addressing the root causes and providing robust support mechanisms, it is possible to alleviate the profound effects of drug abuse on both families and society.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the history and symbolic meaning of the doorstop as a local cultural value which has become an icon in traditional Betawi weddings. The doorstop is an important element in traditional Betawi wedding ceremonies, which have existed since the 19th century and function as a symbol of unity and agreement between two families. Through a historical and qualitative approach, this research found that doorstops not only act as physical barriers, but also have a deep meaning that reflects the values of family, togetherness, and respect for ancestral traditions. This research also shows that although the basic shape of doorstops remains consistent, there are variations in design and decoration that reflect the changing aesthetics and tastes of modern Betawi society. The research results emphasize the importance of preserving local cultural values such as doorstops in facing the flow of globalization and modernization. A deep understanding of the history and meaning of doorstops can increase public appreciation for Betawi cultural values and encourage conservation measures by the government and cultural organizations. Thus, the doorstop is not only a ritual element in a traditional Betawi wedding, but also a cultural symbol that is rich in meaning and important for maintaining the identity and cultural heritage of the Betawi people. This research highlights the need for concerted efforts in preserving and promoting this tradition so that it remains alive and appreciated by future generations.

Abstract

Universities play an important role in the development of individuals who are skilled and ready to face challenges in the professional world. It is important to investigate the various factors that influence students' success in their educational endeavors to ensure they can reach their maximum potential. This study aims to examine the effect of intellectual intelligence (IQ) and resilience (AQ) on chemistry concept understanding (PK) among students in the Mathematics Education program. In this study, participants were randomly selected to ensure accuracy and fair representation of the student population. The data collected were analyzed using multiple regression techniques, which allow researchers to look at the relationship between multiple independent variables and the dependent variable simultaneously. The results of this study show that IQ and AQ together have a significant impact on the understanding of chemical concepts. In addition, individually, both IQ and AQ also show a significant influence on the understanding of chemical concepts. In other words, students with higher levels of intellectual intelligence and better resilience abilities tend to have a deeper understanding of chemistry concepts. These findings emphasize the importance of developing not only cognitive aspects but also non-cognitive aspects such as resilience in the educational process. This can help in designing educational programs that are more comprehensive and effective in preparing students for future academic and professional challenges.

Abstract

Measles (morbilli), caused by the Morbillivirus, is a highly contagious disease primarily affecting children under 15 years of age. The incidence of measles in Indonesia, particularly in West Sumatra, has been increasing due to declining vaccination coverage. This study provides a descriptive analysis of pediatric measles cases at RSI Siti Rahmah Hospital in Padang, using secondary data from medical records between March 2020 and August 2022. A total of 57 pediatric measles patients were identified. The majority of these patients were aged 5-9 years and predominantly female. Diagnoses were primarily made through anamnesis and physical examination. Most patients had a history of measles vaccination, and more than 50% had good nutritional status. Importantly, 71% of patients with complications had not received measles vaccination. These findings suggest that measles vaccination is likely effective in reducing the severity and complications of the disease in children, highlighting the critical need for maintaining high vaccination coverage to mitigate the impact of measles outbreaks.
