Abstract

Pakistan's average wheat production is significantly lower than that of the rest of the world, including adjoining countries like India and China. NPK are the major primary nutrients needed by the plants in large amount. Optimum amount of these nutrients has to be maintained in soil for achieving the maximum wheat yield. High yielding varieties of wheat have high nutritional requirements and generally give prominent response to the applied levels of NPK. Field research entitled “Response of Chinese wheat lines to different levels of NPK” was conducted at Agronomy Research Farm, The University of Agriculture Peshawar during Rabi season 2021-2022. The research was carried out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) having three replications. Treatments were consisted of Chinese wheat lines (MY-1501, MY-1416, MY-1419, MY-902,15CA73, JM-1683J, MY-1215, MY-2914 and MY-409) and two NPK levels (F1: 120-90-60 and F2: 240-180-120 kg ha-1). The results of the experiment indicated that wheat line JM-1683 maintained higher number of tillers (385 m-2) and number of spikes (360 m 2).While higher. MY-15CA73 produced higher thousand grains weight (47.682 kg ha-1). MY-1419 produced higher biological yield (11433 kg ha-1). MY-1419 produced higher grain yield (4779.3 kg ha-1). Wheat germplasms with the application of NPK at the rate of 240-180-120 kg ha-1 produced maximum number of tiller (385 m-2), number of spikes (347 m-2), thousand grain weight (41.955 kg ha-1), biological yield (10068 kg ha-1) and grain yield (4271.7 kg ha-1) followed by lower level of NPK (120-90-60 kg ha-1). It is concluded that wheat lines MY-1419 produced higher grain yield with the application of NPK at the rate of 240-180-120 kg ha-1 and is therefore recommended

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of carbon emissions (CO2) on financial development, capital formation, and economic growth in Nigeria. Using the ARDL model and the Toda-Yamamoto causality test from 1991 to 2021, the study finds a positive and significant relationship between economic growth and carbon emissions in the short run. However, in the long run, this relationship becomes negative and significant. Domestic credit to the private sector has a positive and significant impact on economic growth in both the short and long run. Gross fixed capital formation has a negative and significant impact on economic growth in the short run, but a positive and significant impact in the long run. Trade openness also has a positive and significant impact on economic growth in both the short and long run.  The Toda-Yamamoto causality results reveal a one-way relationship between economic growth and CO2 emissions. These findings have important policy implications governments should prioritize sustainable development and carbon emissions reduction by investing in renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and promoting sustainable transportation. Additionally, governments should invest in human capital

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining biofilm forming bacteria isolates in kitchen sponges of some homes. The investigation involved collection of kitchen sponges from homes before and after the sponges have been used, and thereafter standard microbiological procedure was adopted. Analysis employed   the spread plate count and the streak plate techniques. Counts of the bacterial isolates after a 24 hours incubation at 35 degrees centigrade were observed on freshly prepared nutrient agar, Salmonella/Shigella agar, Mannitol salt agar and MacConkey agar media that have been plated with the sample. Also isolates recovered were identified and streaked on Congo red media. Results obtained showed heavy colony counts on nutrient agar plates, Salmonella/Shigella agar plates, Manitol salt agar plates with counts above 103CFU/g. Biochemical identification of the isolates recovered four (4) bacteria species out of a total of 19 isolates from the study namely ; Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus spp., Shigella spp. and Salmonella spp. Proteus spp. were observed with heavy biofilm formation while Shigella spp. was least, Staphylococcus aureus also expressed biofilm property. Result thus indicated that sponge contact on dishes possess some risk to dish users, due to persistence of biofilm expressed by bacteria isolates even after sponge disinfection with Sodium Hypochlorite. This further suggests that kitchen sponges may play a critical role in the health of household occupants and therefore be discarded after every use

Abstract

This research study aimed to investigate the impact of various factors on leadership effectiveness and employee outcomes in educational settings. The study collected data through an adopted survey questionnaire from public secondary school heads in DepEd Cavite Province, analyzing the results to identify the leadership styles exhibited and to develop a model for educational continuous improvement. The findings revealed that age and educational attainment were significant factors in determining transformational leadership scores, while gender was not a significant predictor of leadership style preference for autocratic and democratic leadership styles. However, female participants scored higher under strategic leadership. Years of service did not have a significant impact on leadership effectiveness, except for participative leadership, which may be more compatible with younger employees. Certain leadership styles, such as democratic, transformational, and servant leadership, had a positive impact on employee engagement and job satisfaction. The study emphasized the importance of leaders adopting a flexible leadership approach that leverages the strengths of different leadership styles to achieve organizational goals. The findings suggest that organizations should invest in education and training programs to help leaders develop transformational leadership skills, promote diversity and inclusivity in their leadership teams, and prioritize promoting effective leadership styles to achieve positive employee outcomes. The proposed continuous improvement model should be used to maintain effective leadership practices and promote positive organizational outcomes. Further research is recommended to explore the relationship between leadership styles and organization’s achievement to develop a more comprehensive model for educational improveme

Abstract

Out of three macro nutrients, phosphorus (P) is one of the main nutrients and necessary for plant growth. N2 fixing bacteria are microorganisms capable of transforming atmospheric nitrogen into fixed nitrogen. The presented research was conducted to estimate the effect of phosphorus levels and nitrogen fixing bacteria on the vigor and viability of harvested barley seeds at Agronomy Research Laboratory, The University of Agriculture Peshawar during Rabi season 2021-2022.   The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design having four replications. The experiment is consisted of two-factors in which one factor was nitrogen fixing bacteria (with and without) and the other was phosphorus levels (40, 60 and 80 kg ha-1) with control. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among all parameters and interaction. Based on experimental results phosphorus applied at the rate of 80 kg ha-1 significantly increased germination (86.25 %), germination rate (6.16), seedling length (21.82 cm) and root fresh weight (0.04 g). The application of nitrogen fixing bacteria shows positive response in all the parameters. N2 fixing bacteria significantly increased germination (86.50 %), germination rate (6.17), seedling length (20.60 cm) and root fresh weight (0.04 g). Interaction between phosphorus level and nitrogen fixing bacteria was found significant for seedling length and shoot fresh weight. It was concluded that phosphorus applied at the rate of 80 kg ha-1 with nitrogen fixing bacteria is recommended for increasing vigor and viability of harvested barley seeds
