Abstract

This research aims to develop and implement the concept of educational recreation in the interior design of Cemeti Yogyakarta Art House. The method used in this research is the design thinking method, which has several stages, namely: (1) empathise; (2) define; (3) ideate; (4) prototype; (5) test. The design results include the design of zones, layouts, floors, walls, ceilings, and furniture. The design results have gone through a trial stage carried out using videos assisted by virtual reality tools and have met the assessment with four testers, namely building users, which resulted in an average score for the design feasibility indicator strongly agreeing 38.67%, agreeing 50%, disagreeing 10%, and disagreeing 16.33%, and indicators of the application of the concept of recreation and education resulted in an average score strongly agreeing 37.5%, agreeing 62.5%, disagreeing 0%.   _______________________________________________________________________________   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyusun dan mengimplementasikan konsep rekreatif edukatif pada perancangan interior Rumah Seni Cemeti Yogyakarta. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini metode design thinking yang memiliki beberapa tahapan yaitu : (1) emphatize; (2) define; (3) ideate; (4) prototype; (5) test. Hasil perancangan  meliputi perancangan zona, layout, lantai, dinding, plafon, dan furnitur. Hasil desain telah melalui tahapan uji coba yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan vidio yang dibantu dengan alat virtual reality dan telah  memenuhi penilaian dengan 4 orang penguji yaitu pengguna bangunan, yang menghasilkan rata rata nilai untuk indikator kelayakan desain sangat setuju 38,67%, setuju 50%, kurang setuju 10%, dan tidak setuju 16,33%, dan indikator penerapan konsep rekreasi dan edukasi menghasilkan rata rata nilai sangat setuju 37,5%, setuju 62,5%, kurang setuju 0 tidak setuju 0%.

Abstract

This study designs concept art for a digital game introducing traditional Indonesian cuisine to urban teenagers, whose interest has declined due to globalisation and fast food culture. The game features 2D pixel art and gamification to create an engaging learning experience. A design-based methodology was used, covering orientation, analysis, concept, design, and implementation. Data were collected through observation and literature on Nusantara cuisine, folklore, and traditional houses. The 5W+1H method guided the analysis of issues and audience needs. The result is a set of visual assets, including character designs (main character, story NPCs, supporting NPCs), environments (modern restaurants and the parallel world of Mayapada Nusantara), and props (dishes and ingredients). Character designs adopt fairy tale subversion, and environmental design applies top-down and visual dissonance techniques. The study contributes to educational game development and promotes a culturally rich pixel art visual style. _______________________________________________________________________________ Penelitian ini merancang concept art gim digital bertema kuliner tradisional Nusantara untuk remaja kota besar yang kurang tertarik pada kuliner lokal akibat globalisasi. Gim dirancang dengan gaya pixel art 2D dan pendekatan gamifikasi untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan. Metode perancangan desain digunakan melalui tahap orientasi, analisis, konsep, desain, dan implementasi. Data diperoleh dari observasi dan studi literatur tentang kuliner, cerita rakyat, dan rumah adat. Analisis dilakukan dengan metode 5W+1H. Hasilnya berupa aset visual meliputi desain karakter (tokoh utama, NPC cerita, NPC pendukung), lingkungan (restoran modern dan dunia paralel Mayapada Nusantara), serta properti (makanan dan bahan masakan). Konsep karakter didasarkan pada teori subversi dongeng, sementara lingkungan memakai pendekatan top-down dan disonansi visual. Penelitian ini memberi kontribusi pada pengembangan gim edukatif dan gaya pixel art lokal.

Abstract

Ibu Ruswo, a prominent female figure in Yogyakarta, played a significant role in the struggle and organisation of women during the war. Her name has now been immortalised as the name of a street. Her story is presented in a visual book, utilising the Pre-factum and Practice-Led Research methods, with data collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The book's design is based on Visual Communication theory, encompassing design style, colour, layout, and typography. This book is intended for junior high and senior high school students in Yogyakarta to foster appreciation for women's struggles and increase interest in historical literacy. _______________________________________________________________________________   Ibu Ruswo, tokoh perempuan Yogyakarta, berperan besar dalam perjuangan dan organisasi perempuan pada masa peperangan. Namanya kini diabadikan sebagai nama jalan. Kisahnya diwujudkan dalam buku visual menggunakan metode Pre-factum dan Practice-Led Research, dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi pustaka. Desain buku mengacu pada teori Komunikasi Visual, mencakup gaya desain, warna, tata letak, dan tipografi. Buku ini ditujukan untuk siswa SMP dan SMA di Yogyakarta guna menumbuhkan apresiasi terhadap perjuangan perempuan dan meningkatkan minat literasi sejarah.

Abstract

Social media has become an essential medium for enhancing literacy. This study examines the role of visual literacy in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) content on the Instagram account @idemain_jab through a netnographic approach. The analysis reveals that visual elements such as contrasting colours, simple symbols, patterns, and animations are employed to simplify complex STEAM concepts. Each post combines visual aesthetics with simple educational narratives and expressive emojis to enhance understanding. Emerging themes include experimentation, child independence, art integration, visual effects, educational infographics, cultural symbolism, and safety. Active user engagement—through comments, likes, and reposts—demonstrates the effectiveness of visual literacy in fostering participation and knowledge exchange. Visual literacy not only improves comprehension and learning motivation but also strengthens community identity while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative skills.   _______________________________________________________________________________   Media sosial kini menjadi sarana penting dalam meningkatkan literasi. Penelitian ini mengkaji peran literasi visual dalam konten STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) pada akun Instagram @idemain_jab menggunakan pendekatan netnografi. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa elemen visual seperti warna kontras, simbol sederhana, pola, dan animasi digunakan untuk menyederhanakan konsep STEAM yang kompleks. Setiap unggahan memadukan estetika visual dengan narasi edukatif berbahasa sederhana dan emoji ekspresif guna memperkuat pemahaman. Tema yang diangkat mencakup eksperimen, kemandirian anak, integrasi seni, efek visual, infografis edukatif, simbolisme budaya, dan keamanan. Interaksi aktif pengguna, seperti komentar dan repost, menunjukkan efektivitas visual dalam membangun partisipasi. Literasi visual tidak hanya meningkatkan pemahaman dan motivasi belajar, tetapi juga memperkuat identitas komunitas serta mengembangkan kreativitas, berpikir kritis, dan kolaboratif.

Abstract

Parents' views on guiding their children's career choices are very influential. Although art is becoming more widely recognised, there is still a perception that art is merely a hobby, not a viable career. This study examines parents' perceptions of the professions of artists and art educators using a phenomenological approach and in-depth interviews in a village in Java. The results reveal varied perspectives; some parents appreciate art for its role in character and cultural development, while others question the economic prospects in this field. Artists are seen as creative but less valued compared to more established professions. Art teachers are often viewed as supplementary educators of lesser importance. These findings underscore the importance of education, family, and community in fostering support for the arts as a valuable and equal career option.   _______________________________________________________________________________   Pandangan orang tua dalam mengarahkan pilihan karier anak sangat berpengaruh. Meskipun seni semakin dikenal, masih ada anggapan bahwa seni hanya sekadar hobi, bukan karier yang layak. Penelitian ini mengkaji persepsi orang tua terhadap profesi seniman dan pendidik seni dengan pendekatan fenomenologis dan wawancara mendalam di sebuah desa di Jawa. Hasilnya menunjukkan pandangan yang bervariasi; sebagian orang tua mengapresiasi seni karena perannya dalam pembentukan karakter dan budaya, sementara sebagian meragukan prospek ekonomi di bidang ini. Seniman dianggap kreatif, namun kurang dihargai dibandingkan profesi lain yang lebih mapan. Guru seni juga sering dianggap sebagai pengajar pelengkap yang kurang penting. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya peran pendidikan, keluarga, dan komunitas dalam membangun dukungan terhadap profesi seni sebagai karier yang bernilai dan setara dengan profesi lain.

Abstract

This study examines how fine arts students at Yogyakarta State University engaged with the community of Beji Village through a capacity-building programme. Using qualitative case studies and interviews with four participants, the findings show that students adapted art education to local socio-cultural contexts through informal communication, contextual media, and intergenerational collaboration. Beyond skill development, the experience enhanced cultural awareness and shifted students’ roles toward art facilitation. The initiative bridged academia and community while promoting local cultural identity through collaborative art. Recommendations include strengthening community-based curricula and sustained support to ensure lasting social impact. _______________________________________________________________________________   Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana mahasiswa seni rupa Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta berinteraksi dengan masyarakat melalui Program Penguatan Kapasitas Organisasi Kemahasiswaan (PPKO) di Desa Beji, Gunungkidul. Dengan pendekatan studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur terhadap empat mahasiswa. Hasil menunjukkan mahasiswa mampu menyesuaikan strategi pembelajaran seni dengan struktur sosial-budaya lokal melalui komunikasi informal, media kontekstual, dan pelibatan masyarakat lintas generasi dalam proses kreatif. Selain meningkatkan keterampilan teknis dan pedagogis, pengalaman ini memperluas kesadaran kultural mahasiswa serta mengubah peran mereka menjadi fasilitator seni. Proses ini menjembatani dunia akademik dengan realitas sosial sekaligus mengangkat identitas budaya lokal melalui praktik seni kolaboratif. Temuan merekomendasikan penguatan kurikulum berbasis komunitas dan pendampingan berkelanjutan untuk memastikan dampak sosial pendidikan seni yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study examines the experiences of fourth-semester Art Education students with creative pedagogy-based art learning. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four participants in the Videography course. Thematic analysis revealed that creative pedagogy facilitates freedom of expression, the utilisation of imagination, and the exploration of personal style. Students reported deeper emotional and reflective engagement in learning, along with enhanced artistic identity development through autonomous selection of media, themes, and techniques. Significant differences were noted compared to conventional instruction's rigid, technical approach. Thus, creative pedagogy proves relevant for Art education, supporting character development and students' readiness in confronting the challenges of contemporary art and the demands of the creative industry.   _______________________________________________________________________________   Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi pengalaman mahasiswa semester IV Pendidikan Seni Rupa dalam pembelajaran seni berbasis creative pedagogy. Metode fenomenologi digunakan dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap empat partisipan mata kuliah Videografi. Hasil analisis tematik menunjukkan pendekatan ini memfasilitasi kebebasan berekspresi, pemanfaatan imajinasi, dan eksplorasi gaya personal. Mahasiswa merasa lebih terlibat secara emosional dan reflektif, serta mampu mengembangkan identitas artistik melalui pemilihan media, tema, dan teknik secara mandiri. Perbedaan signifikan terlihat dibanding pembelajaran konvensional yang lebih kaku dan teknis. Dengan demikian, creative pedagogy relevan diterapkan dalam pendidikan seni untuk mendukung pengembangan karakter dan kesiapan mahasiswa menghadapi tantangan seni kontemporer dan industri kreatif.

Abstract

Contemporary visual arts education requires a holistic approach. This study examines the implementation of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches in visual arts education at a university in Yogyakarta. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach, conducted through in-depth interviews with lecturers. The findings show that these approaches have been applied sporadically, particularly in research-based projects and cross-disciplinary collaborations, but face challenges such as curriculum limitations, lecturer resistance, and students' low literacy. Strategies such as research mentoring, topic-based assignments, and the use of technology have been found to be effective. The study concludes that there is a need for the development of a flexible curriculum, lecturer training, and supporting infrastructure to optimise interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches. _______________________________________________________________________________   Pendidikan seni rupa kontemporer membutuhkan pendekatan holistik. Penelitian ini mengkaji penerapan pendekatan interdisiplin dan transdisiplin di Pendidikan Seni Rupa di salah satu perguruan tinggi di Yogyakarta. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi melalui wawancara mendalam dengan dosen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan ini telah diterapkan secara sporadis, terutama dalam proyek berbasis riset dan kolaborasi lintas bidang, namun menghadapi tantangan seperti keterbatasan kurikulum, resistensi dosen, dan minimnya literasi mahasiswa. Strategi seperti pendampingan riset, tugas berbasis topik kompleks, dan pemanfaatan teknologi dianggap efektif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan perlunya pengembangan kurikulum fleksibel, pelatihan dosen, dan infrastruktur pendukung untuk mengoptimalkan pendekatan interdisiplin dan transdisiplin.

Abstract

This study analyses the transformation of art appreciation through Augmented Reality (AR) in art exhibitions using digital content analysis methods. Data were collected from social media, blogs, and discussion forums, and then coded qualitatively (Taguette and manually). The results identified three main themes: aesthetic experience, emotional engagement, and technical challenges. AR was found to create immersive and interactive experiences, enriching the appreciation of digital art. However, challenges such as technological access gaps and device limitations impact the quality of the experience. These findings highlight the need to harmonise technical and artistic aspects to optimise the use of AR in art in the digital age. _______________________________________________________________________________ Penelitian ini menganalisis transformasi apresiasi seni melalui Augmented Reality (AR) dalam pameran seni dengan metode analisis konten digital. Data diambil dari media sosial, blog, dan forum diskusi, lalu dikodekan secara kualitatif (Taguette dan manual). Hasilnya mengidentifikasi tiga tema utama: pengalaman estetis, keterlibatan emosional, dan kendala teknis. AR terbukti menciptakan pengalaman imersif dan interaktif, memperkaya apresiasi seni digital. Namun, tantangan seperti kesenjangan akses teknologi dan keterbatasan perangkat memengaruhi kualitas pengalaman. Temuan ini menyoroti perlunya harmonisasi aspek teknis dan artistik agar pemanfaatan AR dalam seni dapat optimal di era digital.

Abstract

This study examines the development of students' intercultural creativity through visual arts education at SMP Negeri 15 Yogyakarta, a culturally diverse school. Using a qualitative case study and educational ethnography, the research explores the learning experiences of students and teachers in an intercultural setting. Data was collected through participatory observation, interviews with students from different regions and art teachers, and documentation of student artwork. The findings show that the learning model is adaptive and participatory, fostering active student engagement in the creative process. However, the integration of cultural elements in students' artwork is limited due to low motivation and a lack of cultural understanding. The study recommends incorporating intercultural art projects and digital media to enhance cultural awareness and creative involvement._______________________________________________________________________________   Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi pengembangan kreativitas interkultural siswa melalui pembelajaran seni rupa di SMP Negeri 15 Yogyakarta yang memiliki keberagaman budaya. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus dan etnografi pendidikan, penelitian ini menggali pengalaman siswa dan guru dalam konteks interkultural. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi partisipatif, wawancara dengan siswa luar daerah dan guru seni budaya, serta dokumentasi karya seni siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model pembelajaran yang adaptif dan partisipatif, memungkinkan siswa aktif dalam proses kreatif. Namun, unsur budaya dalam karya seni siswa masih terbatas karena rendahnya motivasi dan pemahaman budaya asal.
