Abstract

The tradition of panggih or temu manten is an integral part of Javanese culture and becomes one of the important ceremonies in weddings in Temanggung Region. This tradition is not only a series of practical actions before the wedding, but also carries deep social values that strengthen relationships between individuals, families, and communities. This study aims to explore and analyze the social values contained in the panggih or temu manten tradition and how these values are reflected in related practices and beliefs. The research method adopted a qualitative approach with a focus on ethnography and in-depth interviews. Data were collected through direct observation during the preparation and implementation of the panggih or temu manten tradition, as well as through in-depth interviews with participants, families, traditional leaders, and local community leaders. Data were analyzed qualitatively by identifying thematic patterns that emerged from the observational and interview data. The results showed that the tradition of panggih or temu manten in Temanggung area contains social values that can be found, among others: 1) The value of mutual cooperation, 2) The value of solidarity and harmony, 3) The value of kinship and kinship, 4) The value of respect for local traditions and culture, 5) The value of moral values education, 6) The value of community roles and involvement. This research also provides deep insight into the importance of the panggih or temu manten tradition as an organizer of strong social values in Temanggung society. The social, cultural and religious implications of this tradition are also discussed as a contribution towards a better understanding of the dynamics of Javanese society.

Abstract

Mappacci tradition in the community of Purun Village, Penukal Sub-district is an integral part of social and cultural life that forms identity and togetherness in the community. In a sociological review, this tradition offers valuable insights into social dynamics, social structures, and social interactions in the context of marriage and Bugis family life living in South Sumatra. This article outlines the sociological aspects of the Mappacci tradition, including cultural symbolism, cultural reproduction, social structure and social conflict. First, the analysis of cultural symbolism in Mappacci reveals how symbols such as pacci leaves, pillows and silk sarongs not only have individual meanings, but also illustrate the values, norms and social structures inherent in Bugis society. Secondly, the role of this tradition in cultural reproduction illustrates how marriage practices and the Mappacci ritual help maintain cultural identity and social solidarity within the community of Purun Village, Penukal Sub-district from generation to generation. Furthermore, an analysis of the social structure of Mappacci highlights the importance of family hierarchy, defined social roles, and gender norms in shaping the wedding procession and the implementation of the tradition. Finally, a review of social conflicts identifies potential tensions between customary traditions and modern values, as well as efforts to maintain the relevance of the Mappacci tradition in the face of evolving social dynamics. With these sociological aspects in mind, this article aims to provide a deeper understanding of the role and significance of the Mappacci tradition in the context of Bugis social and cultural life. In addition, the article also underscores the importance of sustaining and preserving cultural traditions to ensure the continuity of a rich cultural identity amidst the ever-changing currents of modernization and globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the tradition of saweran in marriage with a sociological approach. Saweran, a tradition in Indonesian weddings, is not only a cultural practice, but also reflects the social structure, interactions between individuals, and power dynamics in society. A sociological approach is used to understand how the saweran tradition is reflected in various social aspects, including social structure, social roles, social interaction, power and social control, as well as the potential for conflict and negotiation. This research involved data collection through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation analysis related to the saweran tradition in the context of marriage in Indonesia. The findings of this research are expected to provide deeper insights into the role and function of the saweran tradition in shaping and maintaining the social fabric of society, as well as its implications for broader social dynamics.

Abstract

Mbayar Tukon tradition is a cultural practice of marriage that is still preserved in Sumurarum Village, Grabag District, Magelang Regency. In this study, Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism theory is applied to understand the meaning, interpretation, and social interaction associated with this tradition. Through a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and participatory observation, data was collected from tukon givers and receivers as well as local community leaders. The results of the analysis show that the Mbayar Tukon tradition is not only a material act, but also has a deep symbolic meaning in the context of marriage and local culture. The interaction between individuals in this tradition strengthens their identity in society, as well as deepening social relations between families and communities. This tradition also plays a role in shaping social reality and maintaining cultural heritage in Sumurarum Village. Thus, the application of Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism theory provides a deeper understanding of the role of the Mbayar Tukon tradition in shaping identity, social relations, and social reality in the context of the local community of Sumurarum Village, Grabag District, Magelang Regency.

Abstract

In Javanese society there are traditions that are very thick and are believed to this day. One of the customs that is still applied today is the abstinence from ngalor ngetan marriage, although this tradition is prohibited but the development of the times the community ignores what traditions have been prohibited by the predecessors. This becomes a dilemma because it is considered to cause or bring unwanted things to the two families. This article wants to reveal how the practice of abstinence from ngalor ngetan marriage. Secondly, how is the 'urf review of the abstinence from ngalor ngetan marriage. The research used in this study is field research. The method used in this research is qualitative research. This research also uses collection methods in the form of documentation and interview methods which are then analyzed by qualitative descriptive methods. The results of the study state that: ngalor ngetan marriage in Dempel Village, Karangrayung District, Grobogan Regency is a tradition that in my opinion has challenged the abstinence of ngalor ngetan marriage which has been applied since ancient times, although now with the passage of time some of the people of Dempel Village have ignored the abstinence. The community's perception of ngalor ngetan marriage in terms of 'urf, the author categorizes the tradition in Dempel Village marriages as 'urf amali and falls into the category of 'urf that is not valid because there are several conditions and pillars that are not in line with Shari'ah.

Abstract

Algeria is one of the Muslim countries in Africa. Algeria has undergone a series of legal reforms, including in the area of family law. These reforms may include efforts to modernize the law, improve the protection of women's rights, and adapt regulations to social and cultural developments. Social and cultural values also play a role in family law in Algeria. The fundamental problem in this paper is how the political process in realizing the standardized marriage law. This article uses a political law approach with a qualitative method by describing political phenomena that occur in the State of Algeria. The conclusion in this article is that family law in Algeria is a reflection of efforts to achieve a balance between tradition and modernity, as well as between Islamic values and colonial influences. This search for harmony reflects the changing dynamics of Algerian society, where family law has become a vehicle to reflect and adapt to the changes taking place in an increasingly complex society. Although challenges remain, efforts to achieve justice, equality and resilience in family law continue to be an integral part of Algeria's journey towards a more inclusive and age-appropriate future.
