Abstract

Learners need math communication skills. Students of SMP Negeri 28 Padang class VIII lack mathematical communication abilities. Think Pair Share was selected for learning. This research examined whether SMP Negeri 28 Padang grade VIII students who used the Think Pair Share model had stronger mathematics communication abilities than those who used the standard approach. As a fake experiment, this study employs Static Group Design. Simple Random Sampling was utilised. Class VIII.8 was the experimental class and VIII.7 the control class from the draw. The research tool assesses mathematical communication. The data analysis P-value was 0.001. Since P-value < α = 0.05, H0 is rejected. Compare to the standard model, Think Pair Share students have better mathematical communication abilities. Keywords– Think Pair Share, Mathematical Communication Skills, Conventional Learning

Abstract

One of the skills that students must possess is the capacity for problem solving. Because students who study mathematics must be able to solve problems, this is the case. In reality, problem-solving abilities still need to be enhanced. This study aims to determine the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) paradigm on students' ability to solve mathematical problems. A pseudo-experiment with a Non Equivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design is used for this study. The research cohort was comprised of all eighth-grade pupils at SMP Negeri 7 Padang in TP 2022/23, as well as two sample classes. As a tool, the final exam was employed. The results of the hypothesis test obtained a P-value = 0.000 (α = 0.05), meaning that it rejects . The conclusion obtained is that the PBL model positively influences problem solving abilities. Keywords– Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Problem Based Learning Model, Direct Learning Model

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the understanding of mathematical concepts of ten social class senior highschool  students on compositional function material. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research procedure includes the preparation stage, the implementation stage and the data analysis stage. The research subjects consisted of three students, the selection of research subjects was done by looking at students' math scores, namely the highest, average, and lowest grades in their class with the miminum mastery criteria score as a reference for assessment. The instrument used is a test of understanding mathematical concepts. The results of the study showed that students in ten grades three social enough to understand the compositional function material so that students have an understanding of mathematical concepts that are currently in the compositional function material..Keywords: Analysis of Students Mathematical Ability, Understanding of Mathematical Concepts, Composition Function Material

Abstract

Improving communication skills in the context of mathematics has become essential to achieve success in the learning process. However, the reality is that eighth-grade students at SMPN 22 Padang still face challenges in their mathematical communication skills, which are not yet satisfactory. One possible approach to tackle this situation is to adopt the TGT (Teams-Games-Tournaments) instructional model. This lesson aims to identify and analyze the mathematical communication skills of eighth-grade at SMPN 22 Padang who follow the TGT learning model and whether it is superior compared to students who undergo direct instruction. This study employs quasi-experimental design and a non equivalent posttest only control group design. Sampling was carried out through the utilization of a straightforward random sampling technique, leading to the designation of VIII F for the experimental group and VIII D for control group. Final assessment instrument consists of written descriptions that measure mathematical communication abilities. The data analysis from this study indicates that P-value = 0.002, which is less than 0.05. This suggests that students who participated in TGT (Teams-Games-Tournament) learning model have superior mathematical communication abilities compared to students who underwent direct instruction. Keywords– Mathematical communication skill, Teams Games Tournament, Direct Learning
