Frontiers in Community Service and Empowerment (FiCSE) publishes peer-reviewed, community services activities articles in an open-access format. Accepted articles span the full extent of the Engineering, Social, Science, Health and Education. FiCSE seeks to be the world’s premier open-access outlet for community services papers. As such, unlike traditional journals, FiCSEdoes not limit content due to page budgets or thematic significance. Rather, FiCSE evaluates the scientific and implementation methods of each article for validity and accepts articles solely on the basis of the research. Likewise, by not restricting papers to a narrow discipline, FiCSE facilitates the discovery of the connections between papers, whether within or between disciplines.

Abstract

The risk of transmitting pulmonary tuberculosis in the family needs to be a concern, especially for toddlers and the elderly who have a lower immune system—as well as for people with HIV who have damaged the body's immune system. In preventing the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis, the role of the family is very important, because one of the duties of the family is to provide care for family members who are sick and to prevent transmission to healthy family members through measures that must be implemented in their daily lives. Efforts to prevent disease transmission, especially TB, which can be done are to improve the conditions of houses and sanitation facilities to support the realization of a healthy house. A healthy house is a house with physical facilities that meet the requirements for the health of its occupants, such as the fulfillment of ventilation, lighting, humidity, and occupancy density; all of which must meet health requirements so that it does not become a medium for disease transmission. This community service activity aims to create healthy settlements to prevent the transmission of pulmonary TB disease in the working area of the Pegirian Community Health Center, Surabaya in 2020. The target of this activity was specifically aimed at people with pulmonary tuberculosis in the working area of the Pegirian Community Health Center, Surabaya. The approach was carried out by the methods of observation, interviews, counseling, demonstrations of proper handwashing, and motivating residents to create a healthy house and environment by giving assistance in the form of glass tiles and handwashing with soap souvenirs.

Abstract

Housewives are one of the pillars of household strength, they have a role as a nurse in the household. Therefore, one of their responsibilities is to make sure their family members are always in a good health. Usually, the role of the mother as a nurse in the household should deal with hypertension problems. Thus, there are different perspectives among mothers to treat hypertension and those differences are needed to intervene as prevention for more severe illnesses, such as heart failure, kidney failure, and stroke. In this situation, the mother has a critical role to treat hypertension and prevent it becomes worse. This activity aims to empower women in a group called Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) through a program on treating hypertension properly in Wonokoyo Village.  The writers use several methods to conduct the empowerment, such as lectures, discussions, questions and answers, and fun games. As a result of this activity, most of the participants are able to understand the definition, criteria, signs and symptoms, and mild treatment of hypertension. There are 3 questions from the participants, they are the processing of healthy food, first aid for hypertension, and how to take hypertension medication. As an outcome of this community service activity, women as part of society could meet family needs one of which is to determine actions in the treatment of hypertension in the household, which in turn reduces the number of complications.   Keywords: Wonokoyo, empowerment, hypertension

Abstract

The caregiver is responsible for the psychological needs of adolescents. The purpose of this community service activity is to empower caregivers to fulfill the psychological integrity of adolescents by applying the Interpersonal Human Caring (IHC) model. This method of implementing community service activities is through identifying fulfillment of needs before and after empowerment, carrying out health education activities, identifying the role of caregivers before empowerment, the empowerment process, identifying roles after the empowerment process and identifying the psychological needs of adolescents after the empowerment process. This activity was carried out at the Khadijah 1 Orphanage, Khadijah 2 Orphanage, Aisyiah Orphanage, Mahbubiyah Orphanage, and Al Ikhlas Al Khoiriyah Orphanage. The number of teenagers is 60 people and the number of caregivers is 25 people. The results that have been achieved are an increase in the fulfillment of psychological needs in adolescents and an increase in the role of caregivers in meeting the psychological needs of adolescents. One of the recommended suggestions is the need for provision of caregivers by the Surabaya City Social Service so that they can care for adolescents by applying the Interpersonal Human Caring model so that the psychological needs of adolescents in orphanages throughout the city of Surabaya can be met.
