Abstract

As Indonesia's largest economic hub, DKI Jakarta plays a crucial role in national growth, reflected in its high Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and workforce absorption in sectors such as trade, transportation, and communications. However, Jakarta's appeal as an economic center with high minimum wages leads to intense competition in the labor market. The Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) has fluctuated, highlighting the challenges in creating adequate employment opportunities. Additionally, Jakarta faces the demographic bonus phenomenon, with a growing productive-age population dominated by millennials and Gen Z. This demographic bonus presents opportunities for economic growth, but it requires strategies to enhance the quality of human resources to ensure optimal employment absorption and maximize the region's economic potential

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest emitters of carbon dioxide. This aligns with the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, which states that economic growth initially causes environmental damage. This study uses the Error Correction Model (ECM) with time series data from 2002-2022 to definitively examine the relationship between sectoral GDP and FDI inflows with CO2 emissions in Indonesia. The results show that sectoral GDP significantly negatively affects CO2 emissions in the long and short run. In contrast, the quadratic form of GDP has a positive effect, indicating an anomaly in the expected EKC pattern. Moreover, FDI inflows significantly affect CO2 emissions only in the long run. These findings highlight the urgent need for policymakers to implement environmentally sustainable economic development strategies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the sectors that influence the economy in Desa Tasikmadu and Desa Keboireng. Secondly, it seeks to understand the sustainable economic development policies for these villages following the construction of the southern coastal road (JLS). This research uses Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis, collecting data related to economic variables after the development of the southern coastal road. The analysis results through SEM PLS testing indicate a significant impact of the economic variables with the presence of the southern coastal road development, providing deep insights into the impact of infrastructure development on the local economy. These findings can serve as the basis for better policy recommendations to harness the potential of the southern coastal road development to improve the welfare of the communities in Desa Tasikmadu and Desa Keboireng. The results show that the JLS has increased investment, reduced unemployment, and encouraged consumption, which significantly drives the village economy. Improved accessibility opens up business opportunities, increases community income, and expands local markets. This development also stimulates the growth of the tourism sector and the distribution of local products, supporting sustainable economic growth in both villages. Abstract

Income distribution disparity is one of the challenges in the economic development process in any Indonesian region, especially North Sumatra. The objective of this research is to analyze how public wellbeing serves as one of the determining factors for income distribution disparity in North Sumatra during the 2002-2021 period. This quantitative study uses the Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS), whose result suggest that population and poverty do not significantly influence per capita GRDP and that Human Development Index (HDI) positively and significantly influences per capita GRDP. Further, public wellbeing, which was measured using per capita GRDP, positively and significantly affects income distribution disparity, confirming Kuznets’s inversed U hypothesis. The findings above imply the importance of government policies aimed at enhancing human resource quality through education and health and designing more effective poverty eradication programs to attain sustainable equitable economic development in North Sumatra.

Abstract

The Golden Indonesia Vision 2045 targets sustainable, equitable and inclusive economic development, with an emphasis on the “Sustainable Economic Development” pillar. Java, as Indonesia's strategic region, is the highest contributor to the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In the 2019-2023 period, the global economic contraction due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of simultaneous regional elections in Indonesia are challenges. This study examines the effect of per capita expenditure, population, and the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) on economic growth in Java. Using secondary data from six provinces and panel data regression analysis, the results show that per capita expenditure has a positive and significant effect on economic growth, while population has a negative and significant effect. IDI shows a positive but statistically insignificant relationship. The findings emphasize the importance of increasing purchasing power, population productivity through education and technology, and strengthening substantive democracy to achieve sustainable economic growth. This research provides insights for policy makers in optimizing regional potential to support Indonesia's national economic growth goals.
