Abstract

From economic perspective, poverty arises as result of lack of access to capital and resources differences as explained in the vicious circle of poverty theory. In addition, differences in each region and various factors then create developed regions and underdeveloped regions. Developed regions are progressing and becoming a magnet for the capital, investment and residents of underdeveloped areas. Meanwhile, underdeveloped regions remain. Statistical data shows that the poverty rate is greater in rural areas than in urban areas. For this reason, the government's policy to overcome poverty and disparity is to carry out development from marginal areas, namely rural areas. With the enactment of Law Number 6 of 2014, the village becomes an autonomous region to be able to regulate dan manage its community including aspects of planning, development, finance, and democracy independently. Since 2015, the government has allocated Village Funds to villages originating from the State Budget in the amount of 10% of and excluding Regional Transfers allocated in the State Budget. The results of the study show that Village Funds significantly reduces poverty, but it has no impact on disparity.

Abstract

Each region has its own model of economic growth, different from other regions, so planning the economic development of a region must take into account the economic, social and physical characteristics of the region itself, including its interaction with other regions. Based on data released by the Central Agency of Statistics, Papua is ranked as the province with the highest poverty rate in Indonesia at 26.80%, much higher than the national poverty rate. This study uses the Klassen Typology method and Location Quotient (LQ) analysis to group Papua Regencies/cities into several categories and to know the main sectors of Papua regencies/cities. so that economic development policies can be more targeted according to the potential of each region. In this study, it is known that most regencies/cities in Papua Province are categorized as (relatively) underdeveloped regions and it is also known that the most basic sectors in Papua are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Based on these results, it is expected that the Regency / city governments in Papua Province pay special attention, especially to areas in the category of underdeveloped sectors and further optimize the resources or potential sectors that exist in each region.

Abstract

As one of the sectors affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourism sector in Blitar Regency experienced a large number of workers being absorbed in the tourism sector because the government issued a policy regarding the temporary closure of all tourism locations because it was considered to cause crowds that could increase the risk of the spread of Covid-19. This study uses a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Square (PLS) method through SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of this study indicate that the wage variable has no significant effect on employment in the tourism sector in Blitar Regency during the Covid-19 pandemic, while the tourist variable and education level have a significant and negative effect on employment in the tourism sector in Blitar Regency during the Covid-19 pandemic. . In this study, it was found that during the Covid-19 pandemic, there was no absorption of labor in the tourism sector of Blitar Regency.

Abstract

Youth are one of the most important assets in strengthening a country's socio-economic development. In addition to their large number, youth are also the most active and productive resources. But in reality, youth are the one who hold the highest rate of unemployment in Indonesia. Using binary logistic regression model, this study will try to identify factors that influence the chances of labor force age 15-24 to become unemployed. The data used are from Indonesia’s labor force survey known as Survei Angkatan Kerja Nasional (SAKERNAS) in 2019. Results of the study show that human capital in the form of education and training, as well as gender and marital status have significant impact on employment probabilities of youth in Indonesia. Whereas geographical location between urban and rural area does not have a significant effect on their employment status. Therefore, it is necessary for the government and policy makers to take into account these factors in designing and creating unemployment intervention policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

Poverty is a problem where no country or region can be free from the threat of poverty. Likewise with Indonesia, of the 34 provinces in which East Java Province is an area that has the largest number of poor people compared to other provinces. Based on the principles of regional autonomy and Keynesian theory, the government's efforts to reduce the number of poor people can be through allocating education expenditures and health expenditures. In this regard, there are several other factors that can affect the level of poverty, including per capita income, population growth and unemployment. Therefore, these five variables will be tested to determine their effect on the number of poor people in East Java. Using the multiple linear regression analysis method with panel data, data will be taken from 38 regencies/cities in East Java Province in 2010-2020. Where this study shows that education expenditures, health expenditures, per capita income, and population growth on the number of poor people have a significant influence. While unemployment has no significant effect on the number of poor people. Thus, the local government can make a series of policies that can overcome the problem of high poverty rates in East Java through these 4 significant variables.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of high poverty rates in the Province of Gorontalo, as well as the low value added in the agricultural sector, reflected by the sluggish growth of the agricultural sector and the prevalence of poverty among the population employed in this sector. The aim of this study is to investigate how the growth of the agricultural sector and other control variables influence poverty reduction in the Province of Gorontalo. The research employs panel data analysis using data encompassing all districts/cities in the Province of Gorontalo over a span of 12 years. Poverty plays the role of the dependent variable, while the growth of the agricultural sector serves as the independent variable along with other control variables, namely agricultural basis/non-basis region dummies, Human Development Index, Economic Realization, and Open Unemployment Rate. The results indicate that the dummy variables for agricultural basis and non-basis regions, Human Development Index, and Economic Realization have a significant negative impact on poverty. However, the variable of agricultural sector growth has an insignificant effect, and the open unemployment rate also has an insignificant influence on poverty.

Abstract

Poverty still a major problem in developing countries, including Indonesia. Various efforts have been made to alleviate poverty, one of which is through financial inclusion. This research attempts to identify and analyze the effect of financial inclusion on poverty in Indonesia. This research uses panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia during 2018-2021. The regression model used is panel data regression. Testing the hypothesis with t test and F test. The results showed that the financial inclusion dimension of accessibility has a negative and significant effect, the financial inclusion dimension of availability has a negative and insignificant effect, and GRDP per capita has a negative effect although not significant on poverty in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the financial inclusion dimension of use has a positive and significant effect on poverty in 34 provinces in Indonesia. This indicates that the use of financial services can actually increase poverty in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Financial inclusion dimensions of the use of financial services are still minimal for the poor. So that increasing the use of financial services must pay attention to the poor. The government also needs to pay attention to increasing financial inclusion which is more evenly distributed between provinces.

Abstract

Along with the deceleration of global and domestic economy, the profitability of banks is also decreasing. Such degradation must receive sufficient attention as it can reduce people’s trust and bank’s business sustainability if not addressed properly. The objective of this research is to assess the effects of credit risk and capital on profitability both directly and indirectly through the mediation of credit growth. Using purposive sampling technique, banks member of HIMBARA (Association of State-Owned Banks) from the first quarter of 2012 to the fourth quarter of 2021 were selected as the sample. The data was processed using panel data regression and path analysis. This study finds that NPL and CAR negatively and significantly influence credit growth, that NPL negatively and significantly affects ROA, that CAR and credit growth have no effect on ROA, and that credit growth does not mediate the effects of NPL and CAR on profitability.
