Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARI) is a disease that attacks the respiratory tract with various symptoms. The biggest cause of ARI is a virus (90-95%), so there is no need for antibiotics because most of the causes of ISP are viruses. Irrational administration of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance. The purpose of this study was to describe the use of antibiotics in infants under five years of age with ARI at the Tanjung Duren Selatan Village Health Center in the 2020-2021 period. This research was conducted by descriptive observational on 50 subjects. Sampling by consecutive sampling. The results of this study indicate that the majority of ARI patients have cough symptoms (96%) with an age range of 1-3 years (52%) and birth weight < 15 kg (92%). Complete basic immunization status is only 30%. Most of children under five with ARI (80%) did not get antibiotics and as many as 20% of patients under five with ARI used antibiotics, namely amoxicillin. This study concluded that according to the etiology of ARI in children under five caused by a virus, most of the Toddler patients with ARI  not receive antibiotics (80%) and Toddlers who used antibiotics (20%).

Abstract

Age is a risk factor for the occurrence of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate adenocarcinoma. The prevalence of BPH increases as the size of the prostate gland itself increases in older men. Prostate adenocarcinoma is the most common type of prostate cancer. In 2020, the incidence of prostate cancer is fifth in the male sex. Older men show an increased incidence of BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma compared to younger men. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between age with BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma in Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta. The design of this study was cross-sectional using 62 medical records belonging to Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta in 2015-2019 which were taken using the consecutive sampling method. Data were analyzed using Fisher Exact Test and obtained p value=0.048 (p<0.05). The results of this study indicate there is a relationship between age and BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma.

Abstract

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a gram-positive, anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium, and is an important pathogen in antibiotic-associated diarrhea. These bacteria are normal flora in the human digestive tract but can become pathogenic and form toxins consisting of 2, namely toxin A and toxin B. Due to antibiotics including risk factors for C. difficile infection (CDI), the treatment that can be given is probiotics. Probiotics may be effective in the prevention and treatment of CDI in several ways: alteration of gut flora, enhancement of antimicrobial activity, and as immunomodulators. The effect of probiotics, the method of administration, and the varying duration of administration make probiotics unable to be used as a therapy for C. difficile infection. However, probiotics can still be an option for adjuvant therapy in the treatment of CDI.

Abstract

In 2014 the realization of PHBS household indicators on personal hygiene in Indonesia was 56.6% lower than the target of 70% with the realization of PHBS household indicators in DKI Jakarta Province of 69.3%. East Jakarta is the area with the lowest percentage of clean and healthy households, which is 33.9% of the 243,438 households monitored. This study was to determine the relationship between knowledge, clean and healthy living behavior and personal hygiene behavior at the Vincentius Orphanage for the period of June 2021. This study used a descriptive-analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. Questionnaires were distributed and 42 respondents were taken using consecutive sampling technique. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between attitudes towards personal hygiene behavior with p value = 0.014. In addition, there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge on personal hygiene behavior with a p value = 0.046. While the factors that did not have a significant relationship with personal hygiene behavior were the age and gender of the orphanage children. There is a significant relationship between attitude and level of knowledge on personal hygiene behavior in children at the Vincentius Orphanage in East Jakarta.

Abstract

Obesity is one of the most serious international health problems. According to WHO, obesity in Asia Pacific is defined by a body mass index of 23–24.9 kg m−2.1. Children are categorized as under 18 years of age. Obesity in children is a global health problem that has a negative impact on children's growth and development, and can even increase comorbidities in later life. In obesity, it is suspected that there is a change in the sensitivity of the sense of taste which can cause changes in diet and weight. This literature study aims to determine changes in the sensitivity of the sense of taste in obese children. The method used in this study is by searching journals that were conducted on 3 journal databases, namely PubMed, Google Scholar and Cochrane Library. Obtained 5 journals that meet the research criteria. Based on the study, obese subjects had more difficulty in correctly identifying different taste than normal weight kontrols resulting in a lower total score overall. Concluded that there is a change in the sensitivity of the sense of taste in children with obesity where the child has a lack of ability to taste sour, salty (umami) and sweet.

Abstract

It is necessary to clean glasses regularly. Glasses are often dirty due to attached dusts and contaminated microbe. Ultrasonic cleaner is often used effectively to clean the glasses. Therefore, the ultrasonic cleaner water contains contaminated microbe from glasses. This study aimed to identify bacteria and fungi yeast in the used ultrasonic cleaner water. For this study, glasses were cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. Then, its water is inoculated at 3M Petrifilm for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The results showed that the most frequent Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans in the ultrasonic cleaner water. Escherichia coli was not often found. Since both of microbe, S. aureus and C.albicans are flora normal of the skin, it can be concluded that glasses are contaminated with these flora normal of the skin

Abstract

Noise is a sound whose presence is unwanted that it has an impact on health problems, an uncomfortable environment and can cause deafness. The impact of noise on health can occur in workplace and cause disturbances that are classified in stages. Several studies have found that sudden exposure to sound causes physiological reactions such as pulse, blood pressure, metabolism, sleep disturbances and constriction of blood vessels. The search for research journal articles was obtained from publication media, filtered from inclusion and exclusion criteria and obtained 10 journals to be reviewed. The results of this study are that in all the articles reviewed by the author there is a relationship between long-term noise exposure and human blood glucose levels. Noise exposure led to increased phosphorylation of jnk (c-Jun N-terminal kinase) as well as decreased phosphorylation in skeletal muscle in response to exogenous insulin stimulation, and another result was that plasma levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in skeletal muscle increased after long-term noise exposure. Noise exposure also causes dysregulation of the activity of the hypothalamo-pituitary adrenal axis with high corticosterone, which appears to blunt insulin action in peripheral tissues, consequently limiting glucose uptake and glycogen deposition in the liver and gastrocnemius muscle.

Abstract

Faloak plant is widely used by people in East Nusa Tenggara Province to treat various diseases. The bark of the faloak tree is believed to increase stamina, treat liver dysfunction, ulcers, and typhoid. Often also used to clean the vagina and treat menstrual disorders. Traditional medicine of the faloak plant has been widely used, but there has not been much research and scientific evidence regarding the activity of the faloak plant as a herbal ingredient. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the effect of the faloak plant as an antioxidant. For this reason, a literature search was carried out by searching for articles in research journal databases. From the results of this literature search, it was found that there was significant antioxidant activity in the use of extracts of the bark and roots of Sterculia quadrifida which showed the strongest antioxidant activity compared to leaves, fruits and seeds. The best antioxidant activity was found in 95% ethanol extract for plant bark and 70% ethanol for plant roots. It is because of the identification of the secondary metabolites contained in this plant, including alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, terpenoids and tannins which are known to act as anti-oxidants
