Horizon: Indonesian Journal of Multidisciplinary (HIJM) journal aims to stimulate discussions at all levels of mathematics education through disseminating significant and innovative scholarly studies that are of value to the international research communities. The journal welcomes articles focusing on all aspects of mathematics education including empirical, theoretical, methodological, and philosophical works that have a perspective wider than local or national interest. HIJM publishes only original scholarly works. Manuscripts that are indeed a derivative or replication/dublication (if there is not clear reason, justification) of previous work are not accepted and will not be published in HIJM. Please do not submit the same manuscript simultaneously or separately to HIEJM with another journal. In such cases the responsibility solely rests with the author(s).

Abstract

This study explores the potential of utilizing social media, particularly TikTok, as an effective educational tool for enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, the study conducted a content analysis of 100 TikTok videos, categorizing them into productive (speaking and reading) and receptive (listening and writing) skills. The research findings indicate that microlearning, represented by short and interactive content, can be a successful approach for delivering language learning materials through TikTok videos. By integrating innovative approaches like microlearning and leveraging the popularity of social media platforms, educators can create engaging and interactive learning experiences for EFL learners, fostering collaborative learning and academic connections

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the face of English language teaching, creating both obstacles and opportunities for students and teachers. Since textbooks play an important role in providing organized and complete learning materials, this study aims to examine the requirements of English textbooks for twelfth-grade high schools that use microlearning features. The goal is to investigate the feasibility of using microlearning as an effective strategy for textbook use in English language teaching for twelfth-grade students in Indonesia. This study is an analytical study that focuses on several aspects of textbooks. The alignment with the curriculum, the relevancy of material, the appropriateness of teaching techniques, and the fit for the requirements and characteristics of twelfth-grade high school students are all key topics of inquiry. Furthermore, the study investigates the extent to which these textbooks meet local cultural norms and expectations, ensuring that Indonesian English learners have a meaningful learning experience. The outcomes of this study shed light on the strengths and shortcomings of the selected textbooks, offering useful insights into their effectiveness in supporting English language acquisition. Moreover, the report makes pertinent recommendations for prospective enhancements and future research paths

Abstract

Tobacco seeding can be done in several ways, namely conventionally and polybags or with the use of seed-trays. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of solid waste on planting media on the growth of tobacco seedlings. To determine the effect of solid waste on the best growing media on the growth of tobacco seedlings. This study used a completely randomised design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. With the following treatments: S0 = Topsoil 100%, S1 = Top soil 75% and Solid 25% S2 = Top soil 50% and Solid 50% S3 = Top soil 25% and Solid 75%. The data obtained were analysed with F test. LSD (Least Significant Difference) test at the α = 5% level. The results showed that the treatment of the composition of solid waste in the growing media on the growth of tobacco seedlings had a significant effect on the growth of tobacco seedlings, namely in the parameters of seedling height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf length, leaf width. The treatment of the composition of planting media top soil 25% and solid 75% is the best treatment in the growth of tobacco seedlings.

Abstract

Crab skin is a processing waste that reaches 50-60% by weight intact, with a chitin content of 20-30%. If this waste can be utilized, then in addition to overcoming the problem of water pollution, it will also provide added value to the fisheries processing business. Until now, the use of these wastes is still very limited. Its use includes making petis, shrimp paste, flavor, and as a feed ingredient. This research is about the isolation of chitin from crab shell shells through the stages of demineralization and deproteination. The research method used in this study has 2 stages, namely deproteination with variations in NaOH reagent concentrations of 3.5%, 45.0%, 5 and 6.5%, and demineralization with HCl reagent concentrations of 1 M. Test characteristics of chitin and chitosan isolated results carried out with IR. The results of data analysis showed that the isolation of chitin from crab shells went through several stages, namely two stages of deproteination and demineralization stages. The optimum concentration of NaOH reagents used in the deproteination process is 4.50% with the concentration of protein that can be released in the first test of 18.0467 gr and in the second test of 17.8445 gr. The optimum concentration of HCl reagent used in the demineralization stage is 0.1 N. The optimum incubation time for the chemical deproteinas stage i is 2 hours with chitin levels produced of 32.8320 gr

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the use of alang-alang plants as traditional medicine by the people of Selasi Village, South Buru Regency. The type of research used in this study is qualitative descriptive with 5 subjects. The instruments used in this study were observation and interviews. Observation is used to observe the process of using reed plants as traditional medicine and interviews are used to find out how to process reed plants. The data analysis techniques used follow qualitative data analysis with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of data analysis are known that the use of alang-alang plants as traditional medicine has long been used by the people of Selasih Village. The process of processing plants is carried out traditionally by the community and is carried out based on knowledge possessed from generation to generation inherited by people before them. In general, reed plants can be used as internal medicine or external medicine. As a medicine in including can cure stomach disease, ulcers, vomiting blood, and kidney drugs. While as an external medicine, reed plants can be used as wound medicine due to falling or because of cuts
